AH! Now it does seem to make sense...and yes, it is very possible that they doubled the lead (intentionally or not)...I wish someone had filmed it!

Slightly off topic, but as for David Marks' leads on C50... he sang "Hawaii" and "Do You Wanna Dance" at Merriweather on 6/15.

I recall him singing "Getcha Back" and "Good Timing" at later dates, but I only attended Merriweather.

Have any recordings surfaced of him singing "Good Timin'" or "Do You Wanna Dance" on C50?

We did a sort of post-mortem on the C50 tour after a bunch of different reports about songs Dave may have sung at shows, and Jon Stebbins seemed to have reached the conclusion that Dave only sang "Hawaii" and "Getcha Back." He mentioned that Dave sang "Do You Wanna Dance" at early rehearsals for C50, but then Brian took it over.

http://smileysmile.net/board/index.php/topic,15084.msg347906.html#msg347906

I've heard recordings both before and after the 6/15/12 show, and every version I've heard has Brian singing "Do You Wanna Dance." There are clips of 6/15 on YouTube, but apparently not that song.

I believe on other tours, including random stints with Mike's band, Dave has taken the lead on "Do You Wanna Dance." Not sure on "Good Timin'."

I know Dave took some other leads on random gigs with Brian and Al in 2013. He of course did "Little Bird" at most shows, but I recall that he sang "Forever" at just a show or two. I'm wondering if maybe he has sung "Good Timin'" with Brian or Mike's band, and I'm wondering if he ever took "Do You Wanna Dance" over on that 2013 tour with Brian and Al.

I don't have any clips of DYWD from 6/15/12 nor can I seem to find any, but I was 2nd row dead center in between David and Mike and watched David sing it. I know, it isn't "proof"...but I have zero doubt, take it for what it's worth.

As for "Good Timing", I have  only heard  that one time...my first Beach Boys concert July 2010 (Mike and Bruce)...with a lead vocalist that has NOT been mentioned yet on this thread....STAMOS!  LOL

I teach elementary and middle school music...and that was the most offensive thing I've heard today.

While I love your enthusiasm, that's what 2012 could have been, and they blew it. That's not to say they haven't produced quality performances since then...but, going out with the bang they COULD have in the UK at the end of that tour would've been the kind of concert that's talked about fifty years from now.

I think Brian's days on the road are numbered...but they have been on and off and an off since 1965 so who the hell knows.

I don't see Al or David giving up and both seem quite healthy enough to continue on with others or on their own.

I can see Mike physically slowing a tad bit, but nothing unusual for someone approaching 80. He'll be a "B.B. King" that will die because he stops touring. As he continues to age, if he were to be stricken with any life-threatening illness and stop his routine, that would shake his system so hard, it would be over.

...and when Mike goes, Bruce will disappear. You'll never see or hear from him again. There's no money to be made with the others and there is too much responsibility being the ONLY "official" (if you consider him as such) Beach Boy in the touring band...now, if Alan or David were permanently welcomed back...maybe it would be a different story.

Added a 6/8 Concord, NH date to the top post schedule. Also added the 9/19 Sandy, UT show (with the Zombies opening), which I'm assuming for the moment is a "regular" show, as I don't see mention in promotions for the show of it being a "Pet Sounds" show.

Very intrigued by the possibilities behind this combo with The Zombies. Not that I want to see "Pet Sounds" dragged out anymore than it has been, but could you imagine "Pet Sounds" AND "Odyssey and Oracle" in the same night? This also has the possibility to be what the Jeff Beck tour SHOULD have been. Could you imagine Beach Boys harmonies stacked up on something like "Tell Her No" or "I Love You"? And how about a kick ass Rod Argent organ solo over any of those early surfin' records...or the beautiful breathy yet somehow operatic blend of Colin Blunstone's voice on something like "The Warmth of The Sun"...I can hear some soaring up the octave "...that groooOOOOOWS into DaaaAAAAAAAYYYyyyyAH" ...Let's Go!!!

Got my tickets today! Woot! Hope we get "Santa Ana Winds" this time as it got into the set after I requested it to Al at the post-show meet & greet last visit!

I'll add one more fact that maybe I should have from the beginning, which is the source of my dismay and annoyance with Bruce as a musician: He has ALWAYS been THE most gifted instrumentalist of all the official Beach Boys. No question, no one else comes close. I'm not denying his ability however, if you don't use it...you do lose it...so I sure hope he is using his skills in other venues off the Beach Boys stage because they were indeed, a gift.
135  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Beach Boys 2019 Tour Thread on: April 13, 2019, 08:13:51 PM
Here's a great clip to accompany that great response Nate: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=utHLDoL_n7k

Immediately at the beginning of the clip you can see and hear Bruce play the pitch bend however, it sounds to me like his basic DX7 sound just like Disney Girls. Hear that "sparkle" in there? It's a little brighter to our ears because of the changing pitch so I can see why it might sound like a 12-string function.

Then, from 1:04-1:14, the camera stays on Bruce and you can clearly watch (count the four beats of each measure in your head while you watch...not seconds, but beats) and you'll see that his hands (when they move) don't move in any rhythmic pattern or accuracy...they do not land on a steady beat, or even an off beat. It's completely random placement at best. I'm not saying you denounced this, just another example.

"lastofmykind"- ...my, what a depressing name. Alas, you obviously did not read my posts clearly. I'm not dignifying yours with a productive response.

I assumed Bruce's keyboard was a prop but this is what I was told by Scott Totten ...

"Bruce's keyboard is always on.  His keyboard is the main sound in DARLIN and the chorus and bridge of VIBES."

Yes, Scott told me the same exact thing. I have watched Bruce's keyboard intently during those songs and others from many viewpoints and at many different concerts and as a pianist myself, I will say with the utmost confidence that the only song he plays EVERY time, is "Disney Girls" on the cheesy 80's EP sound. I have also picked it up occasionally on "Don't Worry Baby" and have seen him give starting pitches for "Their Hearts Were Full of Spring" with that keyboard. That is it. I've never seen or heard anything to indicate playing on "Darlin" or "Good Vibrations". His hands are all over the place...and he is CONSTANTLY obsessed with the mix and signaling to the sound guy which makes it even funnier. The only other speculation I can make, is that he sometimes plays vocal harmony parts that are doubled only for in-ear monitoring and not in the house mix, which would explain why his playing seems out of time and inconsistent.

Cool it. It's obvious that Bruce's keyboard is his personal accompaniment. Just like when a guitar player prefers to play guitar while singing. Is Al Jardine also faking it just because we can't hear his guitar?

Man the hate towards Bruce and Mike on this board is ridiculous.

No, he's not. I've seen Al Jardine carry his own in a story teller setting on guitar just over a year ago. I've seen Bruce Johnston with The Beach Boys TWELVE times and firmly stand by my statement above...yeah, I'm really fueling the hate on this board by cushioning his piggybank with ticket sales...and that's after being verbally accosted by the prick for no reason two summers ago after a show while waiting to speak to John Cowsill. Also, as a 24/7 musician and teacher of music, Al Jardine is playing the chords in rhythm, occasionally stopping to entice the crowd (since God knows Brian won't) and sits low in the mix for that purpose. Bruce's hands are all over the damn place completely out of rhythm. I know the keys are depressed at times but they following no RHYTHM or personal accompaniment to match the tune as you suggest. That's why I have speculated the vocal harmony cue theory...but even that seems silly....and, when did I show hate towards Mike? With the twelve tickets I've bought of his? How about you cool it and get your facts straight before you start going off for no good reason.
137  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Last Beach Boys song you heard on the radio on: April 09, 2019, 05:29:59 PM
I don't think I've heard any Beach Boys that I wasn't responsible for playing, since Christmas time when "Little Saint Nick" "The Man With all The Toys" "Frosty The Snowman" and the occasional rarity of "Christmas Day" turn up on our local Christmas channel.
138  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Seems to be what Al was hinting at was a BBs family & friends reunion... on: April 09, 2019, 05:26:39 PM
While Alan is indeed booked for July of this year, Mike and Bruce already have visible bookings into March 2020 on their website...not that these couldn't be cleared if need be, but worth noting.
139  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: recently uploaded crazy Beach Boys commerical, staring Mike+Bruce on: March 21, 2019, 03:54:33 AM
My favorite part (and by favorite part, I mean least favorite) is Bruce stopping everything he's doing (which, you know, is quite a lot) to turn around and say "NOONAN PONTIAC!" while on stage mid-song to the camera.
140  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: What Happened to jeffrey Foskett?? on: March 13, 2019, 08:09:29 PM
Swapping Foskett for Ike would be an enormous step up for the band. Foskett was really struggling at the Christmas show I saw last year. However, I thought Ike gave up the road for his family.

Smaller venue circuit hits sooner? That boom of arenas and stadiums in the late 70's into the early 80's probably never would've happened, and the legacy would be even more watered down than it already is.
142  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Beach Boys 2019 Tour Thread on: March 01, 2019, 12:14:32 PM
Foskett was present on 2/2/2019 so I think he misses some gigs but not others.

For Bruce being all over the place, check out this clip. He has cue cards for some reason:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cnzYw7p3qCI

I've noticed those as well but have never had a vantage point to read them. Gosh that clip was rough, all the way around...

Dang that stinks - was hoping Baltimore would be more affordable - I'm not close but saw the show in Ohio has seats as low as $20...

Received an email today for presale for Baltimore show...yes, it's all back up and running. No tickets under $100...no thanks!

I had 2nd row seats at Montgomery College for $10 each in 2015. No way am I paying triple digits four years later for a show I've seen three times since.

June 12, 2019 - Baltimore, MD - Hippodrome Theatre

Is this one still on?  I don't see it on the Hippodrome calendar or BW's tour page.  Thanks!

Interesting! It has vanished completely from Brian's tour page as well as his Facebook page. I never saw it on the Hippodrome website to begin with. I wonder if they jumped the gun with promotion and something fell through.
148  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Brian Wilson - 2019 Tour Thread on: January 10, 2019, 04:59:45 PM
Out of curiousity, how long does it take for a band of Brian's caliber to rehearse a song from scratch up until it's ready to be performed? Take for example "Mess of Help" which they haven't done live (and I can dream, can't I?). If Brian came up with the idea to play it, how long before it could be in the setlist?

To play it well with accuracy? A half hour?

To re-create the record and ensure that can be repeated night after night? (For these guys) probably just a few days.

I think the repetitive setlists are to keep Brian on track although, that seems to bore him. This band could play thirty different songs every night without a problem.

Baltimore Hippodrome June 12th

This is BS. He brought the 50th Anniversary of Pet Sounds Final Performances to this venue in August of 2016, and now what? The FINAL FINAL performance in 2019?

I'll pass.
