If they end up singing In My Room would be a good choice as the high part is doable for Bruce .  I prefer no others singing especially Foskett who always sings over them and altering the blend

That's also a great choice. I also can't tell if the previous poster was being sarcastic or not about "Friends"...do you really think Mike and Bruce would make public appearances plugging that? They barely touched "Wild Honey" and Mike is all over that record. Plus, David Marks had absolutely 0% involvement.

I don't see why this would be happening without the pairing of a major announcement...but I don't see a major announcement as an album or tour. I also think anyone that considers for a second that even a fully reunited Beach Boys would be a header during any part of the Glastonbury Festival, is fooling themselves. Besides, as it has been pointed out, Mike's touring is already fairly well outlined through June 2019. But, it is worth noting that he is in the UK in June 2019 as that's where the schedule currently stops. Anyway, I see a major announcement as perhaps something more archival. Perhaps a massive live release or an online resource of unreleased live materials. Perhaps the scrapped box set of the C50 tour that's long overdue. I don't know how many listeners it has attained regularly, but perhaps they're amending the initial Sirius/XM announcement of a limited summer run, and announcing a permanent station for The Beach Boys' channel.

HeyJude also mentioned something that is currently my number one interest (assuming they will perform at least one song together): Where will Jeffrey Foskett be? That's a whole big ball of awkward right there. Say this is their last time singing together as these five Beach Boys...I'd like it to actually be just that. Put Brian or Bruce at the piano to outline vocal parts and have the five sing a simple arrangement of something sweet...just them...warts and all. No sidemen. No Fosketts or Tottens. Mike on Bottom to Bruce's falsetto on top with David, Brian, and Alan in between on something like "Surfer Girl" or "God Only Knows" or "Till I Die". That would be a beautiful thing.

Holy sh*t he looks old. Like...triple digits. Also...how could anyone be excited by this garbage?...

I am also greatly concerned by this. It's not my place to be as I'm not Brian...but it really saddens me because as others have said, these sorts of things don't get better. Back pain only increases.

Back pain only increases, but that may well be true wherever he is. If he thinks dealing with pain on tour is preferable to dealing with pain at home, that’s his decision. Sit on the tour bus or sit in the recliner at home. Find moments to stretch or walk on tour, or at home. Take prescribed medication on tour, or at home. Maybe he figures as long as he’s living, he may as well live. I’ve heard life is for the living.

(I’ve also heard I ought not sit around on my ass smoking grass, as that stuff reportedly went out a long time ago. I dunno about that part.)

You really can't say anything on this board that doesn't 100% support whatever Brian Wilson is doing at every waking moment, can you?

I hope he's enjoying himself. I hope he is in strong spirits. I hope he can do this for the rest of his days and that there are many of them ahead of him. But none of us know. It's not my place or yours to assume what he's going through. All I've said is that I'm concerned for Brian's health and that back pain only gets worse. Do you know anyone that has had a successful back operation? I'm not criticizing the man. Yes, life is for the living. Live it up.

Carried to his piano...?

I wonder if she meant via wheelchair? I hope this isn't as literal as it sounds...

It's interesting to me that in many (not all, but a handful) of TV performances since C50, Bruce has gone without a keyboard, as another frontman. Does he do this on TV at events such as the Capitol Fourth 2018, Memorial Day 2016, The View 2016, etc to draw attention that he is another "real" Beach Boy? That would be my guess. To distinguish him from the band.

I know singing BBs harmony is no easy task, but Bruce always looks like he doesn't have much to do!

I've noticed that Bruce's keyboard is MIA when they are lip-synching to one degree or another. I've also noticed that when he plays live, he is often playing vocal cues on very soft electric piano sounds, or simply playing nothing at all (this is usually the case...) So, I'm sure they see no need for the additional expense. Also, I wouldn't consider him an additional frontman. Frankly, he's a backup singer at that point.

July 15th show has been cancelled "due to logistical issues."

https://www.wane.com/news/local-news/beach-boys-cancel-fort-wayne-show/1286789993

That inspired me to check up on their schedule...which led me to this interesting discovery:

November 16th in Chattanooga, the 'boys' will launch their "Reason for the Season Christmas Tour"...I know Mike and Bruce have done Christmas shows before...but have they ever advertised a specifically themed Christmas tour...coincidentally at the same exact time Brian & Al are doing their own?

Maybe they had to cancel to hold emergency auditions to find a dancing Santa Claus to add to Mike's Christmas shows.

More likely a slew of dancing Mrs. Clauses...surely Mike will be the big man in red...

Just watched...seemed like Mike was desperately trying to read a prompter that was too far away.

I'm pretty sure they sang with a recording of themselves. The harmonies were thick in a duplication kinda way. As previously mentioned, there were also some moments were it was easily noticeable that there were "two Mike Loves" singing at the same time.

WAY better than last year...but truly, jut the same old shlock.

Surprised by how heavy the Cowsill version of "Wild Honey" is. He was practically screaming it at points, which was great.

He was very displeased that Mike doesn't seem to think all audiences would enjoy that song when I saw them last summer and asked why the song wasn't included in the encore. I think Mike has a good concept of "flow" in a setlist however, I think he has a poor concept of pleasing the variety of listeners that come to their shows.

I don't know how they're going to physically survive the month of August. Overall, this is a light year for Mike and Bruce with touring, but the month of August is on steroids compared to the rest of the summer, and calendar year for that matter.

23 shows in 26 days in August; that's seems pretty normal for Mike's tour (last year was pretty similar; 20 shows over 24 days). And I do feel bad for the people who catch the shows on the tail end of that run especially, as I recall last year that pro-shot benefit show that was up online for a few days was taken from the tail end of a really long run of shows, and the band seemed pretty tired and lacking in energy.

Yes, I recall last August was packed because I saw the 2nd show in one day after about seven days of straight shows. It wasn't bad...but it showed. Musically, and in Bruce's obtuse personality. But doesn't the rest of the summer months (June & July) seem less active than usual this year?

Totally agreed. However, I think he is learning from this tour just how receptive folks are to the deep cuts. His impromptu performances of segments of "At My Window" and particularly "Take Care of your Feet" were evidence of that in Annapolis.

I recall in one interview, perhaps it was the Rolling Stone interview in May of 2012, Al mentioned how he had been pushing for Mike and Brian to add "California Saga" and eventually it showed up...I think in early June on that tour. I know it was played when I saw them at Merriweather on 6/15.

Added a setlist for the 5/30 show to the top post. Cool to see that "Santa Ana Winds" has survived.

I'm not saying I printed Al a lead sheet and bribed him to do this...but I am quite proud and find it non-coincidental that it showed up as soon as I suggested Al sing it with the California songs in the show and pointed it out on my "Keeping the Summer Alive" LP, in person that night. If you want requests, he's obviously receptive if you can back it up and maybe remind him which record it's from!  LOL

Thanks and well done!

I'm still quite surprised Cotton Fields hasn't made it to the setlists. Al sounds SO great singing it (it was one of the songs that really blew me away at the C50 show I attended), and the story of Al wanting to have the group rerecord it with a new arrangement seems tailor-made for the storytelling format.

You're welcome!  LOL

Someone called at "Cotton Fields" in Annapolis and Al said something to the effect of "this next song is WAY better than Cotton Fields"...and well, it was "God Only Knows"  LOL

Maybe this has been mentioned in the big paragraphs somewhere...but I'd really much rather have a big commemorative release that truly honors the good that came from the C50 experience. A REAL live album...all the tunes that made the cut at any point...good, bad, and ugly...without the Joe Thomas gloss. Wrap it up in a nice big box, include some facsimilie setlists and ticket stubs...kinda like the "McCartney Archive Collection" that Sir Paul is doing...very, very...very slowly.

Hey, at least he has long pants!

There's photos of them wearing the oh-so dated striped shirts as late as the fall of 1967. Carl and Dennis were the only Beach Boys that continually dressed in a remotely "cool" fashion (once uniforms were done and gone).

Exactly! Bruce's face looks exceptionally unnatural in that photo.
