1276  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: RS's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time - Beach Boys take up three spots. on: June 01, 2012, 06:10:44 PM
Well that IS a bit too much of Beatles albums in a list, yeah.

The Beatles were an album band. The Beach Boys weren't. And by that I mean, that primarily The Beatles are known for there collective bodies of work or albums, the Beach Boys are known for individual songs, but they aren't a singles band by any means.

I guess my point is, no two beatle albums sound alike. But nearly all those pre-pet sounds records could swap tracks with each other and it wouldn't be a big deal.

What other Beach Boy albums were expected to be on there? I'd put Pet Sounds, Sunflower, and Smile.

I'd put every beatles album except With The Beatles, Beatles For Sale, Yellow Submarine, and Let it Be.

Isn't It Time, is probably here to stay. I'd imagine they'll add another one from the new album next week. Probably the one that Al sings...I forget the name now Huh

I have faith we'll get California Saga before the boys leave the state...probably save it for the Hollywood Bowl tho. Darlin' is in my top 5 bb songs, I'm dying to hear that one added!

But they definitely aren't playing Friends, because the kiddie band is doing that one.
1278  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Complete Tour Merchandise Thread on: May 31, 2012, 05:34:55 PM
I can't find one solid thread for only talk of the tour merchandise. Very photos and details mixed throughout the other threads.

Could someone going tomorrow night or to a show this weekend/next week take pics to post on here? I'm sure I'm not the only one who is anxious to see everything, and get an idea of what I'd like to buy...since it sounds like the VIP shirt is lame.

Some shirts are on the online store, but I doubt that is all of them. Then, there is talk of the signed tour program at $100, and the signed 8x10 at $50, along with keychains, hats and other little things...it would just be nice to have one place to keep track of all that.

Why would you doubt it?

I've been to several shows now and besides the autographed items (which are specific to each venue and not necessarily at every show)---- every item found in the 2012 Tour Merch section on their online store is what you will find at the Merch Table at the shows.

Oh! So I see...there was MUCH less on there when I looked last, which was the first day they launched it. However, I know with other artists, they don't always make all merchandise avaliable online during the tour, or even after the tour. So, I thought this was a valid question/thread..... Undecided

1280  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: VIP Nation Giving Out Signed Pictures At Meet & Greets??? on: May 29, 2012, 05:50:28 PM
Well, I kinda hope that they are selling these at least at the show I'm at!!! I've really been worrying about the uncertainty in getting their autograph that day, AND, I can't really think of any single item I own that I'd want ALL of them to sign. I was going to buy the vinyl of TWGMTR, and have them sign that...but it isn't out till August now!

But, being able to buy this, would save a lot of hastle and risk, and I don't think $50 is too much to ask, AT ALL. Grin

I saw this as well, a few times actually...don't know if it was the same seller. One was just selling the picture, as was another. But, one had the picture, the shirt, AND a keychain and program, which he all said came with the VIP package. Mine, does not feature the keychain or program...to my knowledge, could be wrong. i thought I got a shirt, poster, and tote bag.
1283  Smiley Smile Stuff / Concert Reviews / Re: Show 18: Chicago Theatre - Chicago, IL 5/22/12 on: May 23, 2012, 12:03:11 PM
After saving for months, and getting this VIP package...I really don't care who tells me to sit down...unless they threaten to drag me out by my ankles! LOL

But seriously, I understand how it is. It will be a mostly older crowd. Looking at the current set, I'll probably stand until Surfer Girl. It's a slower one, and a lot of people LOVE it (not a personal favorite)...Then I'll probably sit till the car songs...the second set...I'll probably be up the whole time. LOL

is anyone going to this show tonight? I don't know which venue they are in at The Borgata, but if they are in The Music Box Theatre, you are in for a GREAT night!!!
1285  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Beach Boys On Good Morning America on: May 19, 2012, 01:28:11 PM
You are KIDDING me. The ONE day I am seeing them, and they are gonna be coasting off the fumes of this show. They better take a LONG nap on that whole 45 minute flight from NYC to MD.....why would they schedule this the same day as one of their shows, especially one that is out of state!?
1286  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: New album info (as it rolls out...) on: May 18, 2012, 08:51:54 PM
OK- does anyone know if this is a mistake or anything?

On Amazon, it says the vinyl doesn't release until July 3rd, where as we all know the CD and download are avaliale June 5th.

http://www.amazon.com/Thats-Why-God-Made-Radio/dp/B007U1FEQW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1337391225&sr=8-1

Is this true?

Darn, I was hoping to try and have the guys sign it in June...oh well, back to the drawing board! I won't worry about pre-ordering this, I'll get at my local record store when it is released.

I believe it is sadly, some kind of problem with getting the vinyls done or something.....

1288  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Your Top 10 Beach Boys songs! Explain. on: May 18, 2012, 05:59:39 PM
1. God Only Knows- As we know, Paul McCartney called it the greatest song of all time. Well, personally I can think of a ton of macca creations I love over the beach boys catalog, but I gotta agree with Paul, that this is at least the greatest composition from Brian Wilson.

2. This Whole World- I didn't know this song till the tour. I don't own Sunflower yet, and have youtubed most of it. But this song just gets me for some reason. It really does represent I'm living for right now.

3. Please Let Me Wonder- So lyrically inviting, and beautiful chord changes. Another gem from Mr. Wilson.  Bow

4. Don't Worry Baby- Read above....can ya tell I'm a real sucker for Brian's compact yet lavish tunes?

5. Darlin'- I really just love to sing this one! LOL It is the perfect range for me, and Carl gives it just enough soul but just enough pop. Till I heard it, I guess it was...more soul than I eeeeevuh haaad! Happy Dance

6. Our Sweet Love- Another beautiful addition to Sunflower I've recently discovered. Chord changes that are a bit typical of ballads at times, but atypical of a beach boy ballad. Thanks guys!

7. Surf's Up- Like said before, I'm referencing the solo version of Brian at the piano. That touches something so deep in me, I don't know if words can match it.

8. Hawaii- I know...most of you are probaly like, where the hell did that come from?!? But I just LOVE that vocal line from Brian, I try to sing it...and fail  Cry LOL

9. I Get Around- Same explanation as above!!! And the key change, very well...ballsy for the time!

10.Good Vibrations- First Beach Boys I can remember hearing...simple as that.
1289  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: The Dream Setlist! on: May 18, 2012, 05:41:29 PM
I don't dislike Do You Wanna Dance, but dude, if Brian sings it ANYTHING like he sang it last night, you're gonna love it.
Tempted to say it was his most powerful vocal of the night!

Well, I'll remember that! Dennis sang on the original, correct?
1290  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: The Dream Setlist! on: May 18, 2012, 05:07:50 PM
They have to do Kokomo, people would be really pissed if they didn't
One thing that surprised me about finally seeing the show is that the songs I didn't think I would be into (or the ones I don't love in their recorded forms) come to life in their live versions and are really cool and engaging. I'm looking at you, Why Do Fools Fall In Love and Rock N Roll Music.

WEll, that is good to hear! I don't care for either of them myself...or Do You Wanna Dance. I like Al's covers for some reason tho! Huh

They can't NOT play Kokomo, and it is just unrealistic to think it possible. I don't liket his self-proclaimed fact, but I bet more than half the people that hear about this tour wouldn't know who The Beach Boys were if it wasn't for Kokomo.
1291  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: The Dream Setlist! on: May 18, 2012, 04:36:23 PM

We aren't really trying to guess the set, since it is obviously avaliable...we're just pondering on what would be the best possible one in our minds, with no real expectations behind it.

Btw- love the set Andrew! A bit deeper than I would care to go at times, and probably a bit longer than the boys would care to go, but it would make a great "This one's for the fans!!!" night!
1292  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Thread For VIP Experiences on: May 18, 2012, 04:31:22 PM
Well, I wouldn't say this sounds like a total bust. It sounds like there are a fair amount of positive reviews, but the majority are dissapointing ones...but what was everyone honestly expecting? If you've ever done this before, you sort of know how it goes. I've only done it once, and it was not paid for, but it was with Roger Hodgson of Supertramp. By chance, I was last in line, and we talked about his music, he asked about MY music, about the show, the beatles, and he signed my tour book, took a few pics, for about 5-7mins. But, I was the only autograph of the evening, and everyone else was easily less than 3 mins each.

...so if you're looking for me at Merriweather next motnh during the meet n greet...I'm the guy at the BACK of the line!!! Shocked
Compared to what is being said here and what I've experienced for free in the past with the Beach Boys, yeah, I expect more when paying $375.00 for a VIP Pass. When it is free they can do what they feel like, but doing this for money they need to make it worth the expense.

Well really, that price isn't all for the VIP pass. In my case, it was $375 as well, and the top price ticket is $125. So once you take that out, you are down to $250. The merchandise would easily be sold at the booth for about a total of $75,so you are down to $175 for soundcheck access and a photo/minute with The Beach Boys. That would be worth it to me. I know I'll never get to meet these guys again, or see them in concert, or ANYTHING relating to a live setting. As you said, you've already met them, so I suppose your views are going to be different.

Hiya!

I'll be doing the meet n greet package on June 15th, and as I've said previously on the board elsewhere, I'm SO excited!

I thought it would be helpful to have a Meet n Greet thread, to share the (short-lived) experience of it all, and post your picture with the boys!

I do have a question as well: what is the deal with autographs? I've heard yes, and I've heard no. Can someone that has done this and had first hand experience please enlighten me? Thanks!
1296  Smiley Smile Stuff / Welcome to the Smiley Smile board / New Poster! on: May 18, 2012, 01:02:18 PM
Hello, hello!

First post here on this board, I've been following all the concerts, and since mine is less than a month away, I figured I might as well start getting in on some nice conversation about the guys! Little introductory note on my part I suppose, I'm 17, young musician, play a variety of instruments, my true musical love/idol is Paul McCartney, but if it wasn't for him, we all wouldn't have the Pet Sounds we know today...so hopefully we can avoid all heated Beatles v. Beach Boys debates!

I've got VIP Package for June 15th at Merriwether Post Pavilion, here in MD, Meet-n-Greet + Soundcheck...and I am SO SO SO, excited!!! It's sure to be a dream come true. I've only seen Mike and Bruce, in 2010 when they came downtown, and it was very nice and quite impressive, they did 35 song set, on the hottest day of summer (110 degrees!) OUTSIDE! But this will really be the best of the best for any possible remaining beach boys experiences. Can't wait! Fun is in- it's no sin! Grin
