51  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Bubs & Judd Review No Pier Pressure on: May 13, 2016, 06:15:23 AM
These kind of threads are one of the many reasons this place is not worth visiting. It's such a shame really that a fan forum like Smiley Smile is mostly filled with bashing and negativity. Just look up the recent posts section and most of the threads (if already aren't, will turn) into throwing sh*t into some direction. Everybody has their own opinions for sure, but I just wonder how is it possible for people call themselves Beach Boys - or Brian Wilson fans when it seems all they can say is negative sh*t?

Anyway, I just keep on wondering why Runaway Dancer splits peoples opinions so radically? I love it. It was my most played song in 2015. And I still listen it almost weekly. It's awesome as hell and would be even better if the synths were more louder and tempo a bit faster.

I like No Pier Pressure a lot. It's a great listen from start to finish. Filled with amazing summertime and feel good music. The production ain't the best and there is some weaker moments, but overall they don't distract me or sabotage my listening experience. I do agree with this review at least in something though, and that's I'm Feeling Sad. It's a great tune, maybe even the best on the whole album.

Proud Mary! That's cool!
53  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Brian Wilson 2016 Tour Thread (Pet Sounds 50th Anniversary Tour) on: April 15, 2016, 02:27:51 AM
This tour is called Pet Sounds 50th Anniversary tour. I don't understand why Brian should play at all those washed up early 60s hits. The shows are pretty much sold out already, this is promoted as his farewell tour (at least in Europe). He isn't building a career here. If he really wants to play all those hits over his own solo stuff and later Beach Boys songs, I guess it's ok. But personally I just don't understand the reason to sing songs like Little Honda, Barbara Ann, All Summer Long, Dance Dance Dance, Shut Down, Little Deuce Coupe or even Surfin U.S.A, I Get Around and Fun Fun Fun for that matter. They just don't really fit with Brian. I'm glad that Mike does them, but in my opinion Brian should replace those with songs like Rio Grande, Goin' On, Last Song, Going Home, Lay Down Burden, Summer's Gone, I'll Bet His Nice, Mona etc.

The set is amazing. Have you seen him play before? Washed up to you but the band plays each track like it's their first tour doing it. It's so full of energy.

Funky pretty, wild honey, wake the world, sail on sailor, Honkin Down the Highway....all tracks still in the set. The car songs are like two minutes long each?

And they're playing pet sounds in full. I'm not sure how you could ask for more than than hearing the best album ever made.

I think you should see a show Razz
I am going to see two concerts in the UK. I'm just afraid that instead of adding deep cuts, they decide to cut down those that you mentioned. For example, Wake The World has always been one of my favorites. Honkin' is great, but for me it's maybe my least favorite from Love You. I know you can't please everyone, but I'm just a little bit sad that there's a huge amount of AMAZING songs that have never been played even once live. I know the band plays great and songs like Barbara Ann and Shut Down rock and I'm gonna enjoy it, but those songs have been played a million times already. Even I've heard them 3 times in concert and that's enough for me.

I have a feeling that Brian likes to do those kind of songs more than the ones that weren't hits because he's afraid that the audience wouldn't like them. I just wish that there was a way to tell him that there's a lot of fans who appreciate Love You and Sunflower to death. And those people are the ones that go see him in 2016, even fly to other countries just to see and hear him. I'm extremely glad that he does Pet Sounds in full, but even that has already been done many times. Anyway, I don't want to sound like I'm only complaining. I just hope there was a bit more variation in the setlists, and no more added "early hits".

Who is the primary culprit for these words? Mike Love or Jack Rieley? Brian Wilson? All three?
Sounds Mikey to me. Great lyrics.
56  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: A question about Funky Pretty on: April 06, 2016, 12:03:30 AM
sounds like Greece-ee-ah-see to me too. makes sense after the line about gay Paris-see. there's really no mistaking the "ee" sound of Greece even if you don't hear the Gr... it's not an "oo" sound.

also there's no background vocals during that section on In Concert and it still sounds like Greece. because it is.
I hear it (in the studio version) more like "Uh-See", no "oo" but no "g" or "ee" aswell.
57  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: A question about Funky Pretty on: April 05, 2016, 01:29:20 PM
No need. It's the bvs causing a non-existent audio artefact. If you tweak it with a graphic, you'll clearly hear Carl sing U, not G.
I have to agree. Listen with headphones on.
I have. I still hear a "g" sound. More so on live versions of the song.
You're right, I listened the ´73 live version and there he seems to sing that "g" there. But in the studio version I don't hear it.

Erm.. The article.
The last songs he wrote and recorded...
Shelter and TPLOB&S......
But he article doesn't claim the songs on NPP are ghost written, does it? He hasn't finished and recorded songs after those two, but that doesn't mean he didn't write the songs on NPP. Most of No Pier Pressure was written before 2012 and that's no secret. The other, newer stuff on NPP were collaborations. I believe the whole point was that Shelter and Private Life of Bill & Sue are the last "solely written by Brian Wilson"-songs.
60  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Mike Love Considering A Performing Residency In Las Vegas? on: April 03, 2016, 01:57:44 PM

Fingers crossed he brings back the white robes!
That could be possible, as he liked the other day my facebook comment about he's so called guru look.
61  Smiley Smile Stuff / The Beach Boys Media / Re: Read Brian Wilson Feature in May 2016 Uncut Magazine on: April 03, 2016, 05:22:20 AM
So the songs on NPP were ghost written?!
And where did you come up with that?
62  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Most embarrassing Beach Boys moment caught on tape? on: March 28, 2016, 01:56:32 PM
You guys are listing my favorite Beach Boys moments! And no mention of Crocodile Rock or Summer of Love videos? In my opinion the most embarrassing ones are pretty anything with Mike Love in the 90s. And this comes from someone who likes Mike Love and loves Summer of Love (the song-not video).
63  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Mike and Bruce Tour 2016 on: March 24, 2016, 07:10:41 AM
Propably Brian (if he's still touring with them, I mean the Eichenberger one). At least last year he was the one who sang You Still Believe In Me and it sounded fantastic.
64  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Pet Sounds 50 track listing on: March 23, 2016, 12:37:18 AM
Not gonna buy it. I don't have any interest in owning 100 versions of Pet Sounds and it songs. Plus the live section makes it kind of stupid listening experience (same songs multiple times). Bums me out they take time and "effort" to release this but no Holland, Sunflower or Love You boxsets, which I'd be drooling over. Mainstream doesn't care if it's Beach Boys Pet Sounds box or Beach Boys Love You box - they're not buing it. So why not please the fans?
65  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Thread for various insignificant questions that don't deserve their own thread! on: March 12, 2016, 07:12:52 AM
Does anybody know if there is a mix of Rock and Roll Music that has the best parts from the Made in Calidornia Mix (Brian's falsetto parts) and Best of the Brother Years version (kickass drums + bass synth sounds)? I personally like the Best of the Brother Years version the most, but it's missing the high "oo-oo-oohs", which are cool. Makes me wonder how much great stuff was lost during the mixing of the rest of the 15 Big One tracks. There's a lot stuff going on there, they should release a remix of the whole album with all the outtakes.

There really wasn't much to see. Old video footage and some Indian guru-stuff.
67  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Thread for various insignificant questions that don't deserve their own thread! on: March 12, 2016, 12:12:38 AM
Why is the tracklisting on the cover of almost every pre (and some post)-Pet Sounds album out of order?
I don't know, but I've always assumed it's because it was a busy business and the covers were printed before the actual album was pressed, so they didn't know the running order of the tracks. But seriously, it would be nice to hear the real reason.

Orange Crate Art - most splendid !
Um, Orange Crate Art has been on Spotify for at least couple years already.

Bruce Johnston loves Apocalypse Now. He talked about it in that long interview that can be seen on youtube (the one where he mocks Friends - the album).

RiC,   I usually don't waste my time responding to negative B.S. but ... talk about the pot calling the kettle! In your recent post...You criticized my grammar. Would you look at what YOU wrote in that same post (and I Quote)..." to put it bluntly in the most lightly way " and "there's not much things to straighten up" Huh   GIVE ME A BREAK... PAL!!! Are you sure you can read?
Yeah, I already said my grammar sucks. And that wasn't the point of that post anyway.
71  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Rocky Pamplin book about The Beach Boys? on: January 07, 2016, 04:57:03 AM

A. Cumming? One wonders what you do in your spare time? Watching a little porn Rocky?
B. Stephen is happy posting on Man vs. Clown but our board here is too intense for him?
C. You really seem pretty pleased with your history of physical violence. The last one against Dennis, the pain of which probably made him self-medicate even more to dull the pain you inflicted. And we know what happened there.
D. Do you regret not calling the cops on Dennis instead of seriously assaulting him? I mean, prision saved David Crosby's life.

This bugs me too, to put it bluntly in the most lightly way.
Sorry if this is asked and answered already, I tried to read the last 5 pages or so, but the grammar in many posts is so weird and messed up that it is hard for me to read those writings (yeah, I know, my own grammar sucks too, but I'm a foreigner anyway). So my question is for Rocky. What's your motivation to tell your story? Do you want to straighten things up or just cash in for easy money? For what I've heard and read, there's not much things to straighten up anyways so that leads me to wonder what are the reasons for this book of yours.
72  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Future 50 year/copyright releases on: December 12, 2015, 12:34:17 AM
These download-only albums are bullshit. Who pays money of a digital copy? I don't get it. Why don't they just release a limited vinyl series live collection of some sort? Collectors would by that in a heart beat. No ones gonna by those digital downloads...

I always believed it was Dennis on Love You's drums.
74  Smiley Smile Stuff / 1990's Beach Boys Albums / Re: Summer In Paradise on: August 02, 2015, 05:03:08 AM
I'd love to own a vinyl copy with that whale cover of this one. But it's not a good album. At all. Strange things happen is the only actually good song. I really like it. Summer in paradise is ok, the live version is awesome. And then Summer of love, well that's so bad that it's actually great. Especially the music video from Baywatch. Makes me laugh so hard everytime. So gotta give some respect for that. The only song I can't listen at all is Forever. I rate this album 2/5.

Hot Fun in the Summertime 2/5
Surfin' 1/5
Summer of Love 3/5
Island Fever  2/5
Still Surfin' 2/5
Slow Summer Dancin' 2/5
Strange Things Happen 4/5
Remember (Walking in the Sand) 1/5
Lahaina Aloha 1/5
Under the Boardwalk 2/5
Summer in Paradise 3.5/5
Forever 1/5

It's funny to see what I've written about this album so "long ago". My opinions have changed quite a lot actually. But one thing remains the same: John Stamos' Forever is a disgrace. Why the hell did they put that awful piece of crap on this album? I've actually started to like songs like Surfin' and Summer of Love a lot more now. They're great to listen while driving. Slow Summer Dancin' and Lahaina Aloha have become my favorites. Nonetheless it's a great album to listen in your car. Give it a new try with an open mind, you might change your opinion towards it.
