It really kills the good vibes of that album.

Yep. What a downer.

Anyone received their RAH tickets yet?  From Stargreen, or the RAH itself?
Nope. I have bought VIP ticket to the saturday concert and a regular to sunday's.

I'm going to ask couple follow-ups for the pizza questions. I hope he answers! Really looking forward to this!

Let It Be and Abbey Road are the best albums The Beatles ever did.

That's YOUR opinion - mine is the 180° opposite! Grin
Well, that's just like your opinion, man!

Exluding SIP, Beach Boys did actually pretty solid work through out their whole career. I'd actually claim that Surfin' Safari is their second worst album. And Surfin' Safari is not a bad album. Most bands tend to do dozens of unforgettable songs. Even The Beatles. Beach Boys did maybe a dozen, with almost 30 albums. That's pretty good work I'd say.

So hyped. Really not sure about the Cusack scenes though. I know he's a good actor but he doesn't look like Brian at all :\

So far, I think he was the best possible choice for an older Brian. Don't know how Dano would look if you added age to him. I think both actors will give a stellar performance.

God Only Knows fits well with the trailer, but why not Love and Mercy?
God Only Knows for it's popularity (at least against Love and Mercy), easy as that.

Wow! It's just as great as expected. I want to see more! I wish we get the full trailer soon. It looks like they did a good job!

This thread is annoying.
134  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: They need to be more creative with Brians music videos on: February 20, 2015, 12:15:51 PM
Like said, it's all about youtube and social media. If you want a hit song, you got to have a video, even though MTV isn't the same anymore. People don't share songs if they don't have cool videos. If people don't share them, they don't get views. If they don't get views, less and less people buy the songs. Simple as that.
135  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: They need to be more creative with Brians music videos on: February 20, 2015, 10:51:04 AM
They should've done that already with Summer's Gone, but for some crazy reason didn't.

Am I the only one who loves those synth horns?

Great video, but where is Dave  Tongue

Brian wasn't feeling well the day David recorded his parts so they cancelled the camera-guy.  :-(
That's a bummer. They should've put more thought into that. It now looks a bit weird, having everyone else there except him.

Oh dear...I don't even want to know how they're going to ship these out.  I'm prepared for another blunder like when they shipped out the signed lithographs during the Smile release (they stuck both the CD and lithograph in one large, thin cardboard envelope.  Needless to say, the lithograph was bent and crumpled by the time it reached my door).
That sucks... For me it comes across the world, so that's really stupid. How hard is it to package something like this properly. I bet the surfboard too comes in some plastic bag or something.
140  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: No Pier Pressure Bundles are out on: February 18, 2015, 02:20:32 PM
I bought already 3 surf boards + 21 lp, cd, shirt and litograph packages. Get your own before they run out!

I mean really, I had to purchase that LP, CD, digital, shirt and litograph package. It's really not a bad prize for a package like that at all, and I was gonna buy the CD and LP anyway. I'm so excited!
141  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Fall Tour on: February 18, 2015, 02:17:51 PM
On past evidence, by the time a fall tour comes round, the album will be long gone from the charts. The longest Brian's had an album on the charts is 17 weeks (BWPS). The last three charted, respectively, for four weeks, four weeks and one week. Brian should tour behind a current, happening release that's fresh in the mind, not one that vanished over two months ago (at best). You think a spring release will drive a fall tour ? Come closer, listen,  I have these deeds to a bridge in New York city...

I would dearly love to be proven utterly and completely wrong on this as the album charts high and stays on the lists for months, years. But as you said, Brian has a built-in audience that will get a certain level of album sales. After that, it's crossover... and the presence of Elton, Eric & Macca didn't exactly buttress the chart career of GIOMH, did they ? Granted, said album is a steaming pile of sh*t that God himself couldn't sell, but the basic point is valid: got a new album, tour it.
You're right, but I believe that they are trusting a lot to the movie that supposably (?) comes out in the summertime. So it's the album first, then the film and then the tour. I want to believe that they (whoever plans the marketing) know what they're doing. If it works, it could be quite a success. Plus I wouldn't be supprised if Brian is doing this year his last touring. He must be quite tired for it. And with the movie and all, this could really be the last year. Who knows?

How's that?

Man, I got to tell ya, Runaway Dancer and Saturday Night on Hollywood Boulevard are AWESOME.

Closer by Nine Inch Nails.

Great choice, but if I were to pick a NIN song for BW to cover, it'd have to be "Every Day Is Exactly The Same" or "The Great Below".
Yep. I think he could actually make them work quite well.

Screw this. Somebody should record those snippets. Can't listen to them, God I hate these country restrictions.
148  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: New Brian Wilson song just premiered on radio on: February 16, 2015, 07:41:32 AM
Hmmm... This is a dissappointment. The production is bland, like so many others have stated. The song itself is also somehow boring. I don't know what to think about it. It's not bad, but easily the weakest of the NPP songs we've heard up to this day.
149  Smiley Smile Stuff / 1970's Beach Boys Albums / Re: Surf's Up on: February 01, 2015, 11:50:05 PM
I may have to give this another listen sometime, but I finally checked it out due to all the praise and honestly I didn't really like it.

It's just a dreary, pretentious, boring listen. I felt like they were trying way too hard to reinvent themselves. I know that was the whole point, but it just came off as forced and self-conscious to me.

None of the songs particularly stood out to me, except SDT for the wrong reasons. It doesn't feel fun or enjoyable like the other Beach Boys albums I've heard. Pet Sounds and SMiLE have melancholy moments but the music is so vibrant and full of life that I can still pop them in any time and feel uplifted. Love You gets a lot of flak for dated production and sophomoric lyrics but damn if that isn't a fun, not-pretentious record. Surfs Up is just overly sad and dreary. It was a chore for me to listen to and doesn't sound like the Beach Boys.

Hated the use of the title track. You knew you were gonna use it and build an album around it, so why does it sound so out of place? With Carl singing the first half, then the second half being so bare, it really does sound unfinished and desperate to include. I hate the new fade they came up with, and how that's become the standard ever since.

Honestly, listening to this just makes me wish they had finished Surf's Up properly when it was due. That, and that they'd have reinvented themselves in '67 when they were still relevant and in the avant garde, crazy SMiLE direction. Not in this pandering to the hip crowd, environmentalist, trying too hard direction.

3/5.
I can't believe what I just read  Shocked
But I have to ask, why 3/5 if you hated pretty much everything on it?

I thought there was cheese on every pizza.
I love the fact that Brian likes the same pizza as my other idol, Kevin from Home Alone.
