126  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: If Brian only played solo songs live... on: July 28, 2013, 12:55:26 PM
I'd love to hear him perform Its Not Easy Being Me and Rio Grande, throw in the Lucky Old Sun album and a smile selection, some Gershwin and I'd be happy!

This Car of Mine! Never rated this song until I heard this album.

The most creative mind in modern music is making a new album. Am I excited. YES!
129  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: VDP: \ on: May 10, 2013, 12:03:35 PM
Van Dyke's comments are pretty inoffensive. I really don't think they show any malice towards Brian.

So if somebody you worked with in the past said they feel "victimised by your buffoonery", you wouldn't feel that's an offensive comment
It's all about context and no I wouldn't be offended. Brian and Van Dyke are friends. My friends and I say much worse things about each other if you were to observe them outside of the context of that relationship. You may well be mistaking the tone of the comment.

That is one hell of a set list. Wish he'd drop watchtower though. Last time I liked his arrangement of that one was in 1989. Amazing hard arrangement with an incredible band. Can't argue with the rest of it though. That should ensure the greatest hits crowd go home thoroughly deflated!

Its cosmic American music. Thanks Gram.

Ach, don't waste your time paddling in the shallows, jump right in the deep end!
134  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Thoughts on recent Brian Wilson productions on: April 03, 2013, 02:33:08 PM
The 'brian didn't really produce this' chat pisses me off. I'm prepared to accept it's a bw production if that's what the credits say. If they say it's a co-production then he co-produced. Very uncharitable to say otherwise. It might not sound like a 1966 production but it's not 1966.

The credits are misleading or flat-out wrong in some cases.
How can you be certain? Some people seem to think Brian is incapable of producing an album. I don't buy it.

After the goldrush and harvest do little for me. They are my least favourite Neil albums. Go for On the Beach, Zuma,  Tonights the night, Ragged Glory or Weld. In fact just start with Ragged Glory, possibly Neil and crazy horse' finest hour.

Lady Friend and Artificial Energy are peaks of the Gary Usher produced Byrds and are as good as any music produced in those extraordinary years of 67-68 imo. I've got to listen to them today.

It was me who made the 'psychotic' quip. In response to some frankly ludicrous replies to my original statement that i did not think the photo was beautiful. I'm not upset at getting banned, i just thought her defensiveness was ridiculous and certainly was not open to discussion. She could have just said she thought i was out of line. Allan Hero is my friend, all round good guy and huge beach boys fan. We have been to many Brian Wilson gigs together. He posted saying he thought the bannings were childish and got banned for it!

Allan Hero?   I like that  Cool
An excellent mistype if there ever was one. Now that your on board everyone can start slating you!

Ok, here you have it, try this for lunacy. The following is what the looney tunes wrote after my friend suggested they were being a bit childish in banning people. Try not to laugh, I dare you!

"That thread is an exchange that took place in reference to the 1980 photo of Brian we posted with the caption, "Here's a beautiful photo of Brian with a very red beard!" Because Brian was very troubled at the time of the photo, AGD and his followers took the position that calling the photo "beautiful" not only was nonsense, but constituted a "historical inaccuracy!"

We know what was going on with Brian at the time the photo was taken; nevertheless, we find the photo beautiful, and so do many others. That photo has gotten over 100 Likes and a lovely comment from artist Wayne Russell. AGD has taken his policing of all things "Beach Boys" to a surreal level of absurdity. The people who have that mentality are incapable of expressing a difference of opinion without being patronizing, condescending and personally insulting. We are finished dealing with them. They can go back to SmileySmile, where they belong (you too, Allan Heron). That goes for anyone who expresses solidarity with that group using the same terms they themselves use. We want a friendly page, and we will not tolerate their rudeness any longer. NM"

hahahahahahahahahah!

Yeah, the child with disabilities post sealed the deal on top of the other delussional rantings about how the pictuire shows an inner beauty and that we should all see the beauty in disturbed people, yada , yada , yada. I feel cheated however that in the statement of explanations for the bannings I did not get named personally despite being the first one shown the door! I want to be the villain!! I am apparently a follower of AGD according to this loonbag. No disrespect to you Andrew but I'm just a beach boys fan. As I said I will get round to posting the text of a post which appeared after I got banned which is just hilarious (and a little bit scary). These people are more crazy than the Beach Boys themselves!
142  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / The Sandbox / Re: Just got barred from the Beach Boys/Brian Wilson fanpage on Facebook on: February 28, 2013, 06:46:40 AM
It was a head shot in profile if you want to take a look, however all the 'contentious' comments have now disappeared as they banned us. I will post the full text of their ranting later when i have more time but they actually said that anyone sympathising with those banned will also be banned. A friend of mine posted that he thought they were being a touch childish. Yup, you guessed it, banned 30 secs later.

Oh my the administrator of that page is a nut job. In banning me and others she even used the phrase "they can go back to Smiley Smile where they belong" Guess what I did? I disagreed with her opinion that a photo of Brian in 1980 was "beautiful". Holy hell!

Live at the fillmore east is just amazing. Band of Gypsys are incredible. Listen to their versions of voodoo child and stone free. Every bit as good as the experience. Different but just as good. For my money Electric ladyland is his greatest album but first rays is great. I don't put myself in one camp, both periods are so rewarding
145  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Re: Best double album ever? on: February 15, 2013, 11:36:41 AM
Quadrophenia, Broadway the Hard Way, Blonde on Blonde, Physical Graphitti , Blinking Lights, immediately spring to mind. There's plenty more about to come to mind!

147  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: What's the Earliest Recorded Evidence of Brian's Vocal Deterioration? on: December 18, 2012, 09:48:08 AM
Whitney Houston did indeed lose her voice... Listen to any live recordings from the last few years of her life. It scary.

Coke also is killing Mariah Carey's voice.
The sooner Mariah Carey's voice is destroyed the better. By whatever means. I can't be doing with that continual oversinging. Make it stop!
148  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Re: Neil Young - the Horse is Saddled Up! on: December 11, 2012, 09:53:58 AM
Glasgow in June. Superb. Last saw the horse in 2001 but saw Neil on the chrome dreams tour in Edinburgh. Quite a night!
149  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Re: Neil Young - the Horse is Saddled Up! on: December 11, 2012, 05:37:21 AM
Over the last couple of weeks I've bought the archives live performance releases. Utterly atounding. In particular Dreamin' Man. I will likely never revistit Harvest Moon again. Neils singing and guitar/piano on this are perfection. A Treasure is just that, great fun recordings. Live at the Filmore, well what can you say apart from it's a shame we didn't get the whole show. Incredible stuff. Buy 'em is my only advice to anyone reading this!
150  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: How Could the Beach Boys Have Kept Themselves Relevant after 1966? on: December 01, 2012, 11:44:02 AM
'relevant' in this context is difficult to define but i don't think it would have mattered. Look at Dylan, he became less relevant after 66 but sold more records in the following years, go figure. The best thing they could have done to maintain sales would have been to finish and release smile.
