Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Beach Boys Pile Up In California

I live in California, within driving distance of all three shows. I briefly thought about going to Brian and Al's, but in the end I'm going to none of them. Not a matter of money or time, just not motivated enough. Now if they were all playing in one stage together? Come on, you wouldn't be able to keep me out of the front row
Wow, Brian Wilson, yes Brian Fucking Wilson is playing near you and you are not going. That blows my mind! I now need a drink!

There are some relevant questions here. One, is whether gay people are more likely than straight people to engage in pedophile/paedophile acts.
Are you for real? Quite real, but no longer interested in participating in this discussion, hence I've inserted the Smiley vs. Darth Vader illustration to symbolize the long-term conflict between myself & Mr.Doe(and his followers) I'm far from one of his 'followers'. You see, I have a mind of my own, and it knows stupid when it sees stupid, sonny. Jeezuz, in what universe is that a 'relevant question'?

Eric Dolphy - Out to Lunch! The Kinks - Sleepwalker Thelonious Monk - Monk's Blues The Mothers of Invention - Uncle Meat, Burnt Weeny Sandwich, and Weasels Ripped My Flesh Small Faces - Ogdens' Nut Gone Flake Sun Ra - Cosmic Tones / Art Forms T. Rex - Electric Warrior XTC - Mummer, The Big Express, Nonsuch Neil Young - After the Gold Rush
I later realized that some of these albums sort of reference each other, with Eric Dolphy's "Hat and Beard" referencing Thelonious Monk, and Frank Zappa's "Eric Dolphy Memorial Barbecue" referencing (of course) Eric Dolphy.
Not going for the easy Zappa albums there!

All fantastic albums. When are you going to take the plunge and try Preservation Acts I & II?
The Kinks are all over English tv at the moment. Their songs are being used on 3 adverts. They are All Day and All of the Night, She's Got Everything and someone doing a cover of This Time Tomorrow.
Its Gaz Coombes ex supergrass front man who does the cover. Very nice it is too.

I don't want to open up a can of (do you like) worms, but why do so many people hold Love You up to the sky as some high piece of art??? I see why people like it, but let's be realistic - we like this as hardcore Beach Boys fans who want to hear "new" Brian Wilson material. Croaky and raspy voices, simplistic and sometimes dumb lyrics, scraggly harmonies, strange backing tracks. This music is insane. If The Beach Boys had ended on Love You, it wouldn't have done a thing for their "artistic integrity".
Each of those things you have mentioned is why i love Love You.

What if... what if Brian hasn't written a real song since the '80s? What if he's a front for other people that use the Brian Wilson name to sell records? Then I wanna shake their hands for making so many damn good albums and putting on so many damn good concerts! There's clearly Brian-Wilson-level talent behind the last decade of his solo career, and no matter how much of it comes from talented collaborators it's still a thing of beauty worth celebrating. Not sure why I should be bothered that he didn't write a note of "I Loves You Porgy", either -- the voice singing it is in so much better shape than at any point in the '80s... Exactly my thoughts, that evil, behind the scenes manipulator/collaborator must be one hell of a talent! Cheers, Jon Blum

Brian's voice is damaged/not what it use to be. Paul's voice sounds pretty much the same as he did in Wings/Beatle days - can even still hit the high notes.
Beg to differ, but Paul's voice is pretty much shot, unless the last few years of video footage have all been somehow sabotaged. His Queen's Jubilee appearance in 2012 was utterly dire. At least Paul still sounds like Paul, albeit an older one. Brian sounds like a completely different person altogether. I hope brian's new album is better than mccartney's album 'new'. That was a serious disappointment. Take all the time you need Brian!
Is that even possible? It's going to be more sludge recycled from 1998 collaborations with AOR king Joe Thomas. listen to wings over America. McCartney's voice is incredible. He is nowhere near that peak vocally now. This is not a criticism. The guy is an incredible musician. I will still buy everything he puts out. If the 1998 sludge of which you speak is of the caliber of summers gone, pch and twgmtr, throw in some new material as incredible as fttba, then cover me in sludge!
