"Part 3 (Animals) is a mystery to me, possibly something Barnyard related? Does anybody have any idea what Heroes sections Brian was calling Part 3 and Part 4? These maybe are new."

"Animals" = 'Swedish frog' grunts & groans ?

Also, now we have sections of "H&V" logged as parts 3 and parts 4, does this invalidate the notion of a part 1/part 2 single ?  maybe we've got a "Surf's Up" pt. 2 scenario here. Discuss.

I'm a bit surprised that it won't have a capella and instrumental versions of the full album, like the Pet Sounds box set had.

And does anyone know if this box has a limited amount of copies? I'd prefer to order it on Bol.com, but they don't have it listed yet. If there's a risk of it getting sold out, I might order it through Amazon anyway.

Hey all - I emailed amazon.co.uk about a uk release and this is what I got back..

Hello ***********,

Thank you for contacting Amazon.co.uk.

I can confirm that, from the website, the title will be released on November 1, 2011 on Amazon.com but not Amazon.co.uk.

The packaging is usually secure enough but if you wish to contact Amazon.com it can be done through the Amazon.com website.

Did I solve your problem?

WTF - Is this not being realeased in the UK or what?!?!?!

It's all going a bit OT round here.  When can we get back to bickering fruitlessly about drugs?

I'll bet you a doughnut it's released in the UK within days of it's US release.  Amazon.com can only confirm what they know currently and they probably don't have any information on UK distribution yet and therefore have no information to share with the consumer.  November is still two months away, a lot can change in that timeframe.

The Swedish Frog/Heroes & Villains Animals sounds pretty logical to me.  I'd be surprised if it was anything else.

Kind of puzzled that they included stereo mixes of Vega-Tables, Wind Chimes and the instrumental track of Cabin Essence on vinyl but not on the box set proper.  Someone is going to have to do needle drops.

Well, it is a Bank Holiday weekend, which may be an excuse for the slightly vague response. I'm sure it will be released in the UK.

That is a good point, but what, then, could the 45 b-side titled Part 2 be? Maybe they're just calling Sections from the GVbox Part 2...

I, too, suspect that "Animals" is the swedish frog section.

The photo posted on Amazon - are those the pizza boxes mocked up to look like Smile tapes, from that infamous RoachClips pic? Grin

Amazingly... they do look the same.

Which would seem to lend some authenticity to said picture, would it not?

Unless, of course, somebody just thought it would look cool, which is entirely possible.

We'll see, it might well be, but I don't consider "animals" to be a good descriptor of what that section includes. I would have either called it just Swedish Frog of "Groaning", not "Animals"

Didn't Brian use 2 different master numbers for Heroes and Villains?  Isn't this some of the strongest evidence for the much rumored 2-part Heroes and Villains.  If the booklet for the SMiLE sessions lists master numbers for all sessions maybe we'll get a solid answer.  Of course we'll have to see what the H & V part 1 & 2 on the 2 disc set and 45 add up to.  Grin

No - it was a working title for one section, never a seperate song as had been assumed by some. This was established years ago.

Yeah I remember it being ascribed to that Italian instrumental that first surfaced around a decade or so ago.  That never seemed quite right to me so I wasn't surprised that the myth was debunked.

No - all it says is that it's being released on the US on 11/1/11, but not in the UK on that date. Jeez, people, start thinking with your brains, please - you honestly think a release of this magnitude will be limited to the USA ?

There have been predecessors.  I would never underestimate the stupidity of marketing and management generally speaking.  There was a massive box set released on Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers two years ago and if my memory serves me correctly much like the SMiLE Sessions it came in several formats.  Canadians seemed to have trouble tracking down the 5 disc set since it was a "Best Buy Exclusive" and Best Buys in Canada weren't carrying them initially.  So I wouldn't blame anyone for being nervous at first when they are told that so and so won't be carrying this release.  In fact back when BWPS came out in 2004, I tried to pre-order it at Barnes and Noble and was told that "they wouldn't be carrying that title".  Lo and behold on the release date they had nearly an entire kiosk stocked with copies of the disc.

With all due respect to Tom Petty, we're dealing with something much further up the scale here.

Yeah but the principal about marketing still holds which for me justifies why some people would get anxious regarding a response as given by amazon.uk.  But like I said, half the time these people have no idea what they are speaking about to begin with or can only go on the information they currently have at their fingertips.  The bottom line is everyone wants a copy of this set on the date of the release and a response like the one given by amazon UK is bound to make some people paranoid whether it's justified or not.

Speaking of Best Buy exclusives, one wonders if Capitol and the ubiquitous electronics retailer will cook up something for TSS.   A bonus track in the 2CD set?  Perhaps a t-shirt giveaway?

My feeling would be that it would be far more likely for a few bonus tracks to pop up on the itunes release.  This has been pretty common practice as of late as far as I can tell.
