So if you buy the box set, you would have everything that is included on the other instances of the release, correct?
It would appear that way, at least from a musical standpoint.
I'm not so sure -- I went through the box's track list (a couple of pages back) to highlight which tracks were going to be on disc two of the 2-CD set, and there were a few tracks that I couldn't find exact equivalents for on the box:
2. Heroes and Villains (Part 1) 3:08
7. Cabin Essence (10/3/66) 5:19
13. Good Vibrations Session Highlights 8:20
"Cabin Esseence" for example, has three tracks dedicated to it on the box, divided into "Verse," "Chorus" and "Tag" sections. The single "Cabin Essence" track on disc two of the 2-CD set COULD be just a combination of these tracks, or could be something else. Same situation with "Good Vibes." "Heroes And Villains (Part 1)" COULD be the cantina version we've had for years, but I'm not sure, and there's no "master take" of "Part 1" listed in the box's disc two.
We'll be able to guess better when we have track lengths for the box tracks.
H&V pt1 may not be represented on the CDs, but we'll at least get it on the single if anything
"Heroes and Villains (Part 1)" is track 2 of disc two of the 2-CD set. What I was saying was, I don't see that specific track anywhere in the box set's discs...

The idea of him recording another Surf's Up demo in mid-late '67 seems so poignant, somehow. The Smile project was very over, with SS out in it's place and the Hawaii shows having happened, and the group's commercial standing and his success seemingly in ruins (Smiley Smile's flop must have been very painful for a man driven by success so). Pepper has come out and he's a man beaten, if you will, by that record which in his heart of hearts he probably knew he could best, but for some kind of confusion which stopped him.
To just sit at a piano and play through that song, seemingly for old times sake, feels heartbreaking. And I haven't even listened to it!

Can't get my head around this. Just too exciting to see there's so much potentially new stuff. Surf's up from wild honey sessions - WTF!!!??? Mission pak???
What are uk folks doing about ordering this? I figure it's safe to wait until it's listed on amazon uk rather than preordering from amazon us?
On holiday at the mo so having to limit reading of all this. Aaargh unbearable timing!

Oh, I get it, I was assuming Discs 5 and 6 were also CD's...nothing to see here.
I think disc 5
is
a cd, but not disc 6, which is vinyl no. 1.
Oops, I meant 6/7...
It's cool, we're all somewhat wired.

Mark Linett was right, the bootleggers did miss a lot of material.

I am bothered by the Song For Children and Roll Plymouth Rock parenthetical titles--it's an anachronism/historical inaccuracy. But it's a slight complaint. In the end, it won't really "matter." It's weird that they didn't title Dada, In Blue Hawaii. Could this mean something?
Maybe this was done for legal reasons. 'Look' was first released as 'Song for Children' on BWPS, so perhaps the latter title is included to avoid confusion over copyright. On the other hand, versions of DaDa and DYLW had already been released on the 1993 box under their original titles, so maybe it does "mean something." For instance, perhaps the version of DYLW that's coming out on the Smile box contains some elements (i.e., verse lyrics) that were not on the 1993 release but WERE on the BWPS version copyrighted with the RPR title. Since the 'Blue Hawaii' lyrics were a BWPS-only creation, there is no possibility that something released as part of DaDa now was first copyrighted as 'Blue Hawaii.'

I still can't get my head around a Brian Wilson Wild Honey-era "Surf's Up" piano version. Even before Lee's post I was thinking that if it actually was a newly discovered version, it might have been something Brian just did for posterity, perhaps an acknowledgment that he still felt the song was special, but wanting to distance it from Smile by re-doing it Even if he couldn't have closure on Smile, he was trying to get closure on the song that he knew was one of his greatest compositions.

Here are the ones pricking my interest
TRACK LISTING FOR BOX SET!
Disc: 1
23. Vega-Tables Demo (Bonus Track) - great to hear a BW demo any time
I would guess this is the short "cornucopia" version.
Quote from: desmondo on August 28, 2011, 03:46:07 AM
Disc: 4
2. Vegetables: Ballad Insert 4/14/67 [VEGA-TABLES (VEGETABLES) (continued)] - what is this?
Could it be the acapella "I know that you'll feel better" part before the tag (or that ends the BWPS version)?

It's going to be amazing [I hope]. I love that piano sound. New chord changes and key movements? Exciting stuff.

Heroes and Villains: Mission Pak?
Heroes And Villains: Part 3 (Animals) (Master Take)
?? "All Day" is on Disc 2, so that means the two versions of Dada from 1966 are something different. What the hell!?
Yeah, and better yet, why are the tracks from '66 called simply "DaDa" and the ones from May '67 called "Love To Say DaDa"? Hmmm...
And "Love to Say Dada"/"Cool, Cool Water" from 12/22/66? The "Cool, Cool Water" idea/variation was conceived back then?
I believe this notation means that the track will eventually morph into "Cool, Cool Water", not that it was labeled as such in Dec. '66. This same approach is used for "Do You Like Worms?" by adding "Roll Plymouth Rock" to the description.
As Les P noted, I too am thinking that "Vegetables: Ballad Insert" is the new name for the a cappella section. Similarly, I'm thinking that the "Barbershop" section of "Heroes..." is the a cappella section of the single.

Im going to throw out a wild guess about the ALL DAY. Remember the bonus accapella track on TLOS? what line does that start with?

So what are the chances of someone doing a needledrop of the vinyl...of the new album mix...for an EVEN MORE AUTHENTIC ANALOG DIGITAL EXPERIENCE?
If you know what I mean.

Like I said with Pet Sounds, if you can prove you own the CD I can happily do a needledrop on ANY album I have.
