A mere and humble (Harv) suggestion: Maybe someone can start up a SMiLE Sessions FAQ and the Mods can pin it up top the forums so we don't have to peel back through two hundred pages to find out information on the upcoming box set. The FAQ can contain information such as what the various SMiLE releases coming out on 11/1/11 will contain, tracklistings, which tracks have been booted and which haven't etc. etc.
That's a good idea. Gonna take forever, but I like that suggestion and will run it past the others.

Child is one of those tracks that got booted early on, and not a lot came out with time, so i'd assume SOMETHING has been found.
Also, just to clarify, The Tracks: Wonderful, Look, CIFOTM and Surf's up = 20+ minutes all together, and their BWPS counterparts equal about 10
so... WOAH, maybe Surf's Up Part 2 was found?

Disc 4:
3. Holidays 9/8/66
Nothing new here
4. Wind Chimes (Version 1) 8/3/66
5. Wind Chimes (Version 2) [Wind Chimes (Version 2) Session: 10/5/66]
6. Wind Chimes (Version 2 Tag) [Wind Chimes (Version 2) Session: 10/5/66]
I've never been totally clear on the two versions of Wind Chimes. Which version is on the GV Box? Which version is on the UM 17 boot? To my ears I think one version has a harpsichord and the other has vibes? What about whispering winds? Is the tinkling piano outro the "tag"?
7. The Elements: Fire 11/28/66 [THE ELEMENTS: FIRE (MRS. O'LEARY'S COW)]
8:30 seconds worth of Fire sessions. I wonder what takes these are. The UM sessions go up to take 18, but I think I read somewhere that they did up to 28. I was always sort of hazy on this one. I think it's the Goodbye Surfing article that says take 28 was the final one, do we have any of that stuff? Is this track just the stuff that's been available on UM?
8. Da Da (Taped Piano Strings) [LOVE TO SAY DADA / COOL, COOL WATER; Da Da Session: 12/22/66]
9. Da Da (Fender Rhodes) [LOVE TO SAY DADA / COOL, COOL WATER; Da Da Session: 12/22/66]
10. Love To Say Dada: Part 1 5/16/67 [Love To Say Dada Sessions: 5/16-5/18/67]
11. Love To Say Dada: Part 2 5/17/67 [Love To Say Dada Sessions: 5/16-5/18/67]
12. Love To Say Dada: Part 2 (Master Take) 5/17/67 [Love To Say Dada Sessions: 5/16-5/18/67]
13. Love To Say Dada: Part 2 (Second Day) 5/18/67 [Love To Say Dada Sessions: 5/16-5/18/67]
14. Cool, Cool Water (Version 1) 6/7/67
15. Cool, Cool Water (Version 2) 10/26/67 & 10/29/67
Now this is where it gets interesting. In theory this stuff could blow the lid on some smile questions. The 12/22/66 session is, according to AGD, a Heroes session at Columbia. Does anyone know who was present at this session? Just Brian? Does anyone know if Columbia had a Fender Rhodes? My best guess as to this is that it was an "all day" type thing with Brian just noodling around with the Dada Riff. Is there a possibility that this is a full blown demo run through of Dada? Could it even have Brian doing a vocal part or singing lyrics? It has the potential to be really really interesting, but it's probably pretty fragmentary. It will be interesting to know if they named it Dada or if they found something written on the tape naming it Dada.
The other Dada sessions seem like the normal things we already have, including the "bird whistle" version.
I don't believe we have the 6/7 version of Cool, Cool, Water. Might that be the "water chant"? AGD's site says this was a Western Vega-Tables session. When is the Water Chant from? My best guess is that this is it.
16. You're Welcome 12/15/66 [SMILE ADDITIONAL SESSIONS]
17. You're With Me Tonight 6/6-6/7/67 [SMILE ADDITIONAL SESSIONS]
18. Tune X (Carl Wilson) 3/3/67-3/31/67 [SMILE ADDITIONAL SESSIONS]
19. I Don't Know (Dennis Wilson) 1/12/67 [SMILE ADDITIONAL SESSIONS]
20. Three Blind Mice 10/15/65 [SMILE ADDITIONAL SESSIONS]
21. Teeter Totter Love (Jasper Dailey) 1/25/67 & 2/9/67 [SMILE ADDITIONAL SESSIONS]
22. Psycodelic Sounds - Underwater Chant 11/4/66 (Bonus Track)
23. Hal Blaine Vega-Tables Promo Session 11/11/66 (Bonus Track)
24. Heroes And Villains: Early Version Outtake Sections 1/67 - 2/67 (Bonus Track)
We have You're Welcome.
With Me Tonight might be the fast version with the Vega-Tables backing, right? 6/6 6/7 were Vega-Tables sessions.
Tune X we have, Carl's song
I Don't Know hasn't been booted before.
Three Blind Mice is a bizarre choice, does anyone know why this was included? It doesn't seem any more appropriate than Indian Wisdom or whatever.
Teeter Totter is new
Underwater Chant we have along with all the psychedelic sounds stuff
Vega-Tables arguments is nothing new
Heroes and Villains: Early Outtake Sections?
? What is this. Just some mistakes? Maybe this has a new bit or two, but nothing substantial probably.

Two...Jasper's came from an acetate.
The big picture now becomes even bigger:
A lot of folks have said they wanted a "clean" version of Barnyard after being stuck with a noisy and washy acetate version for years. Same thing with the Our Prayer session, and other odds and ends.
Child is from acetate, Teeter-Totter is from acetate...those are the two.
Pick out the tracks like Barnyard on that tracklist which we've only known as noisy acetates, and I'm even more excited to hear clean versions of some amazing songs which have been buried under layers of noise for years. They must have come from the tape sources for this box set. Yeah, man!
It keeps getting better.

Three Smile version of With Me Tonight are in circulation to my knowlegde: a quiet harpsichord (or tack piano) version that goes on for about 3 minutes, a louder version, similar keyboard backing to the previous version but with handclaps and more boisterous singing and finally the fast Vega-Tables-style backing one that appeared on Hawthorne, CA. I really hope all three make an appearance.

Is this known for sure? I don't think this is the case. Are you assuming that the songs take up the whole of Vinyl side 2? I think what they did was put only one "movement" per side of vinyl. I mean Surf's Up 2nd movement wouldn't have increased the length that much would it have? It's just a backing track for the part of the song that already exists, not an entirely new song. Wonderful/Look/Child are all about 2-3 minutes long, Surf's Up is about 4. I can't imagine they found 10 all new minutes of material for those songs. I could understand finding a new coda, or 30 seconds or a minute of new material, but I don't think those 4 songs take up a whole side of vinyl.

I think they will, my impression has always been that all the different versions were from the same session. Maybe I'm just imaging that, but AGD doesn't list any With Me Tonight sessions at all until the Smiley sessions. I think all the different versions are just different takes from the same session.

That was my point. They didn't actually give us the track times for those. I really think they just put a movement on each side of Vinyl, it would be really extraordinary if they came up with 10 minutes of totally new never before heard material on those 4 songs. It really seems like an extreme long shot to me. It's probably the standard ~10 minutes of material that we're all used to.

That would still only be an additional 2 minutes. It also seems unlikely. This is the "final" version of the album remember? I don't expect that they would include two different versions of a song back to back in the final running order. I suspect that this version of Child is the version that was mastered from acetate. There were 2 Western sessions for Child, and 4 Columbia sessions. Both western sessions are included on the box set, but of the 4 vocal sessions I've only ever heard the "Ch-Child" vocal parts. Was more ever recorded? It seems like there has to be something more from those four vocal sessions. I'm curious to know how "complete" this version of the song is.

The Dennis song is an acetate too I think, but I'm not sure that can be counted as a SMiLE recording.

Forgive my ignorance but what does it mean that a version of Child was mastered from an acetate? I mean, i know what it means, but what exactly does that imply? Original Brian mix? Missing vocals? Something else?

They mastered a version of "Child" from an acetate
Thank you, thank you, thank you, Peter, for passing along this tidbit.
What am I saying... tidbit? BLOCKBUSTER news.
This just keeps getting better and better. Man, oh man, oh man.
Forgive my ignorance but what does it mean that a version of Child was mastered from an acetate? I mean, i know what it means, but what exactly does that imply? Original Brian mix? Missing vocals? Something else?
It implies that just because it doesnt say
Child (from acetate)
, doesn't mean its not from an acetate.
