4. Second least favourite part of Smile - those who give Phil a hard time just because he has a different view - as far as I can tell he's never be really rude to anyone - give the guy a break
I'm not really sure he does have a different view. The evidence against his banal statements is overwhelming but he sticks to it stubbornly. I suspect he's just too proud to admit that he might be wrong, and it's gone on so long now that he doesn't want to look a fool for backing down. Instead, he opts to look a bigger fool for continuing.
You're right, it's his option and he's welcome to voice whatever daft theories he subscribes to. And it's our right to point out to him that he's making a banana of himself.
Yes well, the guy cops a lot of flak,a lot of it maybe deserved but you got to hand it to him,he pretty much takes it in his stride without resorting to any invection(Ask AGD what that means).

Invection is, I believe, an inverted convection - a meteorological event responsible for many UFO reports.

Just as well Phil doesn't resort to it!

I think you mean "invective" -- and yeah, it's true that Phil is utterly cordial in his posts. But "cordial" does not equal "polite" and his constant baseless statements that the project is "troubled" and that Capitol and the BBs are guilty of some kind of malfeasance (ask AGD what that means) are quite impolite and getting (gotten?) tiresome.
EDIT: They're still kind of amusing in their obstinance, though. I find the people who get outraged by Phil almost as puzzling as Phil himself. For Phil's posts to outrage me, I'd have to believe that his negativity could actually threaten the whole project -- and to believe THAT, I'd have to believe what Steve Hoffman claimed back in March. And I don't.

I have been malfeasing myself over the meaning of 'invection', but did not arrive at any illuminating plethora of well-auguring
signifiants
in the present case. I had a lapsus in cognitive and mnemonic powers, more like. That was due to a
malheur
in my hippocampal pyramidal tracts, esp. in the dentate gyrus and the post-synaptic densities therein. I think all the hyperpolarization going on is resulting from feverishly expecting a certain deluxe album box with unfinished music.

Part of the greatness of the SMiLE album is the drama surrounding it. It was supposed to come out! They all fought! Lawsuits ensued! Mike Love is an Ass! Brian just couldn't get over the lack of support! 20 Years Later, it was booted! 40 Years Later, it was completed! It's not really the correct order!!!!
etc. etc. etc.
So although I don't wish Brian any more mental anguish, the GREATEST EVRRRR would be if, after Capitol releases the Box Set, Brian pops up with some other sh*t he had hid in his house or something.
THEY FORGOT THE 4TH MOVEMENT!!! THAT'S NOT ME SINGING ON WIND CHIMES!!! or something.
I just want the drama to continue, lol. I mean screw it, we already know it didn't happen and you can't go back and finish an album that was never finished, so I think the best we can hope for now is that exciting developements continue for 40 more years.
GOOD VIBRATIONS WAS SUPPOSED TO BE 14 MINUTES LONG!!!! Vegetables was really part of the WIND element!!! etc. etc.
LOL!
Yeah, Al was right - that WASN'T Worms!!

Yes. His verbosity tends to rub off on one. The man is so prolix, so literate... no wonder then that qua reciprocal comprehension, the guy is simply incommensurable with the public at large. Yet, being a
homo universalis
, he certainly does not look down on
hoi polloi
, and that is his moral forte.

Again, who says Capitol haven't got "their sh*t straight" ? Two people - you and PC. Most folk here think differently. Some folk here
know
differently. OK, tell me what you know of the
exact
state of
The Smile Sessions
right now. There's folk on this board, and watching, who would like to compare what you think you know with what the actual situation is. I'm betting they're poles apart.
You know a leave for a few months, and it's so refreshing to be back, and watch AGD claim he doesn't know, but might know! and had a secret phone call! It was long! Maybe somebody on this board knows about the boxset... others are watching!
Always loved that part about AGD. Also when he posts up the really schwarmy picture of himself kind of gleefully sneering at the knowledge that must be inside that great head of his.
I'm so glad to see that Andrew still has information the rest of us don't. Or maybe he doesn't? I don't know, he'll never tell us fully. Just the hint, though, is enough to satisfy.

Phil's posts have nothing to do with his Smile mix. Really, they don't have anything to do with Smile. If it was a different band and a different release it would all be the same. That's Phil's gimmick. He gets online and freaks out about classic rock outtakes. It's what he does.
Ha ha! Somebody should get Phil into Neil Young, then he can direct all his energies towards the wait for Archives vol 2, set to contain perhaps the second greatest lost album ever ...
You'll note that there's no discussion(or anguish going on) on the internet concerning Neil Young's "Archives Vol.2". It took ten years(and loads of pressure from Neil's fans, many of whom were turning against him) to finally extract "Archives Vol.1" from Neil. I think that most of Neil Young's fans would agree that it's not worth going through that 10 year ordeal to extract "Archives Vol. 2" from him. Will Reprise Records, Compact Discs, DVD's or Blu-Ray discs still exist in 10 years time? Your guess is as good as mine. My view is that Neil Young's fans were lucky that he let go of Vol.1
Yes, I had a role in the online complaining about the endless games that Neil played over "Archives Vol.1", and I was equally vocal in seeking remastered Beatles CD's. My complaints about the elusive "Smile" box are for the same reasons; to keep public pressure on artist & record label, who are not particularly eager to release the product. Contrary to Mr.Doe's view, I will not see the actual release of a "Smile" box set as a defeat. I will see it as a victory. We should all maintain public pressure on The Beach Boys and Capitol Records.

Thanks are in order I guess. Thanks Phil for the remastered Beatles CDs. Had I not known that you were

in getting these released I would have changed my opinion in a jiffy of your naysaying ways.

I'm sure Capitol would be moving much faster if they realised how influential Phil is. I mean…
This from Neil's own website, FYI:
ARCHIVES TEAM WORKS HARD ON VOLUME 2

The NYA team, headed by Will Mitchell and Hannah Johnson, is digging through material supplied by numerous sources, including newspapers, writers, fans, bootleg audio collectors and photographers (special thanks to photographer/collector Joel Bernstein). Much work has been done and there is much left to do. Using the template designed by the late Larry Johnson, the whole team is pushing forward.
Special thanks to audio engineers John Nowland, Tim Mulligan and the team at Redwood Digital for the unbelievable amount of work that has been accomplished so far. Volume 2 promises even more content than Volume 1, with many unreleased tracks.
Four unreleased albums from this period are being rebuilt and will be available in the NYA Special Release Series. Chrome Dreams, Homegrown and Oceanside-Countryside are the three unreleased studio albums. Also from this period is the unreleased Odeon-Budokan live recording produced by David Briggs and Tim Mulligan. These albums initially will be released in vinyl from analog masters as they originally were created for that format. So now is the time to get your new phonograph player. The new players, built with today's technology, are exceptionally good.

I think this means Don was dropped on his head as a baby, he has a big invection and he's pleasuring himself (withou fulfilment) at the thought of a beautiful box.
(which is my maximum accolade, handed out very rarely)

Thanks are in order I guess. Thanks Phil for the remastered Beatles CDs. Had I not known that you were
instrumental
in getting these released I would have changed my opinion in a jiffy of your naysaying ways.
I'm not claiming that I was instrumental in making The Beatles remasters happen. It took more than two decades of hunderds of thousands of people complaining about the mediocre 1987 CD's. I did my (admitedly very small) part.

That about sums it up.

I'm sure Capitol would be moving much faster if they realised how influential Phil is. I mean…
This from Neil's own website, FYI:
ARCHIVES TEAM WORKS HARD ON VOLUME 2

The entire Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young family tree of artists have become "The Boy Who Cried Wolf" as far as archival CD & DVD projects are concerned. Most of what they promise never happens. Shall I catalogue these vaporware projects? Here it goes:
Stephen Stills box set
Manassas Box set
CD + DVD-A of the first Stephen Stills solo album
Stephen Stills/Jimi Hendrix jams
Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young-1974 tour CD/DVD 4-disc set
Neil Young=Homegrown
Neil Young-Chrome Dreams
Neil Young-Oceanside-Countryside
Neil Young-Archives Vol.2
Buffalo Springfield outtakes found on multitrack a few years ago by Atlantic Records
Neil Young-Toast
Neil Young & Crazy Horse-Atlanta 1976
DVD's of Neil Young's video programs "The Complex Sessions", "Weld", "Ragged Glory" & "Freedom Acoustic"
...and there's probably a few more things. I stopped paying attention to these guys and these projects that they briefly float, then abandon. It's not worth expending the effort to complain about these guys. In that respect(releasing what they promise), Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young are far worse than the Beach Boys.

My complaints about the elusive "Smile" box are for the same reasons; to keep public pressure on artist & record label,
who are not particularly eager to release the product.
While you're online, can you share with us fellow members your evidence to back your claim that Capitol isn't eager to release this boxset? And also the evidence to back your claim that this boxset is "troubled"?
Sorry, this question has been asked several times before, but you've been too busy spouting off your mundane recapitulatory barrage of negative posts that you've seemed to have missed/ignored this question entirely when asked previously.
If answered I hope it clears up a lot of the angst around here.

1 - maybe you've not noticed Phil, but the only anguish here concerning
TSS
, or on any other BB MB you care to mention, emanates from your corner. We're not fussed, because we believe it when people who are involved in the project say it's going to happen and this year.
2 - No way to say this delicately, or even politely, so I won't even try. One person on one MB doesn't exert pressure on anyone: like I said to your wingman Sgt. Smile, don't give yourself airs. Oh, they're aware of you, but not because of any pressure you imagine you might have exerted. As for exhorting us to maintain said imaginary pressure... trust me, there's no need, none whatsoever. That makes about as much sense as telling a river to keep on flowing downhill. Matters are doubtless proceeding according to the gameplan, and the fact that you personally know nothing of this indicates something other than the project is in trouble. Capitol are not playing games, and they know what they're doing. This is a big roll of the dice for them, and "good enough" is unacceptable. All you're doing with your attempted pressure is increasingly pissing of posters here. If you were really into this "pressure" lark, why only post on one board ? To my knowledge there are a good half dozen other dedicated BB MBs, and many more general music fora (excluding the Hoff, natch). I might not know much, but I know primo bullsh*t when I hear it.
