Some of you are obviously going to disagree, but my view is that Capitol ,BRI & the Beach Boys "marketing strategies" for this troubled box set project, have mistreated many thousands of The Beach Boys' most loyal fans. If Capitol, BRI, & The Beach Boys hadn't been so secretive, all of the speculation on the internet (over the box set's contents & whether or not the box set will be released) would never have happened.

Secretive? They have released a press release stating the creation of a boxset and stating that it will be released later this year. And as for the "secretive" nature of their marketing strategy: (this has been mentioned before) perhaps they don't want to issue too many details about the set's contents this soon - especially if not everything is set in stone...it is a logical process, though I realize that some here have a knack for not understanding the simplest of things.

I honestly think that Capitol is doing a smart thing here: wait until things are set in stone and then go forth with announcing definite release dates/track listing/etc.

Also, I think AGD has mentioned this several times to you before, but your labeling this project as being "troubled" is without merit.

Still waiting for the release of the release date and when it will be known, you will waiting for the smile sessions to be release.
Or, maybe in september or november or december, Capitol will release the track list of the box set; and after in december Capitol will anounce the official release of the box set. And don't forget "The Smile That You Send Out Returns To You".

Preparatory work for this project first started in the 80s, they've said they've been actively doing archive work for it for the last 10 years, the interview with Al was all the way back at the start of February, so things have apparently been rolling since the start of this year, 6/7 months? The first official notice was over 5 months ago now. What exactly is still not "set in stone"? Brian has reported twice now to having listened to TSS. What stage exactly are they in on this project? It seems like they've had a lot of time.

Anyone wonder if the act of checking in daily on the progress of this boxset in itself distorts time, and creates a sense of delay where there really is none? This place is getting to be like some demented waiting room. The mods should figure out a way where the dark, foreboding piano bridge to Child could be on permanent loop whenever we open this thread, just to a increase the tension and really send Phil over the edge.

Jesus, grow up.  For the other 99.99999% of the world, including the record company, the world does not revolve around Smile.  They undoubtedly have many other projects and many other considerations.  All kinds of things could impact the date.

For those of who work (presumably most of us), think about all of the various things you work on, the other people who are involved, the various complexities, etc.  And then picture the nitwits on this board giving you the third degree about one of your projects.  Think about other people "announcing" dates for when you'll be done with the project, and then pushing back the dates--even when you haven't announced a date to begin with.  Picture a hater who does everything he can to paint your project as "troubled."  And someone else who complains that you've had 30 years to work on it, so what's the problem?

I generally have no sympathy for record companies, but some of you are so extreme ...   Move out of your bubble and get some perspective.

This is the first post I've found offensive. I regard myself as one of those "most loyal fans" and your c*ck-eyed view isn't representative.  Most folk on this board fall into the same category; only yourself and one or two others consider themselves mistreated. Most of us are simply enthusiastically coming back here to check for more information every hour of every day. It's one of those things that fans do (sadly!).

Please don't purport to speak on my behalf. The only reason i'd entertain for the lack of news is a) Capitol obviously are not finished yet and b) time goes slower on the internet. It feels like an eternity when you check in everyday. We would obsess anyway! And we are. This is the natural way of it. Everything's on track.
