Good Vibes is in some form of stereo - sounds really good!

Sounds hideous to these ears. There are far better fan 'mixes' on YouTube.

"Hideous" is perhaps too strong a word, but compared to the other stereo samples it doesn't come alive to these ears. Perhaps too conservative an effort?

Anyone know who Derry Fitzgerald is?

Derry sent me his "GV" 'stereo' mix some time ago, and compared to what I just heard, it was and remains the dog's bollocks. Something terrible has occurred in the translation.

I'm very interested in hearing the high quality GV. Sounds like they actually separated different elements in the vocals without much quality loss, which imo is nothing short of a miracle. But again, it's hard to tell at super lofi quality.

Going by the samples overall, great job Mr. Linett, the new stereo mixes sound incredible! Can't wait to rock the full stereo Smiley in my headphones...

Well, I guess they are low-fi samples… the original TWGMTR samples sounded, frankly, shite, and I didn't expect what we got at all. We'll have to wait-see what gets released over here, or what filters down to us from others with regard to this; I wouldn't base a final judgement on what HMVjp's offering online.

So, I started listening to these and was like "Gee, these are awfully narrow stereo mixes.  Barely even worth doing."  And then I realized I was just listening to the mono.

Anyway, most revelatory:  I"m Bugged at my Old Man.

I've been saying for years that stereo remixes of SS and WH would change the way we and the public think about these records.  WH would be even more dramatic, and I've heard more of the remixes that they've had sitting in the can than anything from Smiley, but listening to these samples now, I think that it's easier to link Smiley to Smile, and Smiley to WH, as well.  SS and WH truly do suffer from, in my opinion, bad mixes--lovable, canonical mixes, but bad mixes nonetheless.

Sounds like some nice things have been done.  I always prefer super-wide vocals with a comparatively narrow track, and occasionally Mark has obliged, but he'll do the wide track and almost mono vocals too.  Both work.

You can definitely hear that "pillow" of extreme lo-fidelity on these samples.

Capitol has released 4 popular Beach Boys albums in first-time stereo, and you guys think that there's nothing wrong with Capitol neglecting the many Beach Boys fans outside Japan. Obviously, the group has a significant amount of fans on this side of the world too.

Correction - Capitol Japan has released them. It's their baby and nothing to do with the parent company in the USA. There are many Japanese only Capitol releases. Maybe Capitol USA will pick up the ball and run with it... maybe they have other plans like, say, a 50th anniversary GH collection and a rebooted career-spanning box set to concern them right now. We'll see.

Even if Japanese Capitol commissioned(I.E. funded) the remixes, they could not release them without permission of Capitol U.S.A., because Capitol U.S.A. owns The Beach Boys albums up through and including "Beach Boys Party". Capitol U.S.A. is not blameless in the fact that these new remixes became Japan-only releases.

Please, for the sake of my sanity (and i suspect that of may others here), stop shovelling "blame" around. It's excruciatingly tedious.

i don't think phil is saying anything outwardly bad at the moment.

anyway, i'm pretty confident these will come stateside at some point.   So i'm not gonna be shilling out hundreds of dollars for them. i will just be patient.

hearing these Today and Summer Days tracks in stereo is too much for me...I know some people think it's blasphemous, but i've pretty much always preferred the official stereo mixes to the mono.  Just makes the sound a lil more modern.

Not blasphemous to me.  Stereo "Today" and "Pet Sounds," with all the instruments clear and distinguishable, has done wonders for me as a Beach Boys fan and a worshipper of all things Brian.  I made my friend a comp of tracks from each Beach Boys album through "Summer Days" from the two-fers.  The early albums in stereo just sparkle.. the instrumentation and voices just incredible.  Then "Today" and "Summer Nights" come along and it's all narrowed mud.

The stereo mix of Let the Wind Blow on the Hawthorne cd is incredible! It is one of my favorite tracks to listen to!

Can't seem to log into Amazon.jp.

My password doesn't work.  But it does for US, UK, and Canada.  Hmm.

Like a weird freak stalker I decided to send a message/e-mail to Mark Linett on Facebook and ask if he knew anything about a 'wide' release for these titles.  Haven't heard back yet and I'm not really expecting a response because it's not his area of expertise (release schedules).

I do recall that he once answered a question of mine, directly, on a Usenet Music Group about some release, or another.

i'd be curious how they would release that stuff here in the states.  Would they be ok with releasing some of these albums on their own?  The two-fers was such a good deal, and since those are still readily available, would anybody new by these, even if they had stereo?

I think some of these stereo masters may come to be regarded as definitive in the same way Mark's Pet Sounds stereo mix has been seen since it first came within earshot.  So yes, I think there'd be a market. Maybe fade out the twofers and replace them with the mono/stereo offerings over time. After all, the BBs cred isn't going away any time soon.

It would be a travesty if these mixes don't get released here in the US. I prefer the original mono mixes over stereo, but I'm not an idiot. These things sounds absolutely amazing, even being compressed down to nothing.
