"“[BW]Jimmy Buffett has that kind of thing doesn’t he? We were on his bill once for a tour, and he has all kinds of girls in costumes running around."

"We" - the band - were not: Brian guested on maybe ten JB shows in 1998.

In this case, the author was just quoting Brian. It's not like he was perpetrating anything.

I think the most exciting news is that Brian is apparently writing songs again! All this recording hasn't been about remaking old tunes (although, given how BW has traditionally worked, I'm sure some are in the mix). He seems to be inspired anew.

Yes this is excellent news if true considering Brian has been lamenting a creatively dry spell for a while now...

To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.

Fishmonk is alright, yeah. His impatience over the appearance of something in space-time allows me to delight in my eternal indifference to whether anything happens at all, ever.

"How to speak hip", a very funny record cut in "59".

Check out the Beach Boys Starline website, the place for pictures of many countries Beach Boys releases on 45.

Listening to you I get the music; Gazing at you I get the heat; Following you I climb the mountain; I get excitement at your feet
Right behind you I see the millions; On you I see the glory; From you I get opinions; From you I get the story

Lol...
"We're Sure To Sell A Million Units! In January!"

Anyway, Here's my Two Cents on the Box...
I believe that, while it is hard to wait, we still have BWPS (And *COUGH* Bootlegs *COUGH*)

The box, in my opinion, is just:
1. EVERYTHING from the boots cleaned up to sound pretty :D
2. Some unreleased stuff (Frog, etc.)
3. Maybe some unreleased vocal tracks, (Look, CIFOTM, etc...)

So honestly, I can't wait as much as everyone else, but we still have SMiLE, and we should be thankful enough that Brian would even do that!

Honestly, I'm looking forward to a new Brian Wilson Solo album (Of Original or Un-Released Material) Just as much Tongue
Adult Child anyone?

They've milked the myth of "Smile" for too long, and played far too many games with the fans. On all the previous occasions (in the past four decades) when "Smile" was supposed to be released, and wasn't, fans soon forgave The Beach Boys, then it was business as usual for Brian Wilson and The Beach Boys, and their careers suffered little or no damage from Smile's non-release......
Actually, Phil (or whoever you really are), I would argue that the band, The Beach Boys, suffered a major career slide after the initial non-release of SMiLE.  It meant that, for the rest of their active recording life, which ended in 1996, they always had SMiLE as a monkey on their back.

To me, their confidence in their artistic vision was shaken when they didn't release SMiLE.

Sure, they released beautiful albums such as Friends, Wild Honey, 20/20.  They moved on.  But certainly, The Boys seemed to take a critical pasting after SMiLE's non-release.  How else can you explain a genius-level album such as Sunflower ONLY charting at #151 in the US.  I just say WTF that Sunflower only charted at #151.

Each of those albums that I just mentioned SHOULD have  been a #1.  I blame the non-release of SMiLE.

I am absolutely looking forward to the Disney album more than the Smile box. No question. I always prefer new and original to stuff from the vaults (90 plus percent of which I'll have heard already). And I find sessions tracks -- in general -- tiresome. Sea of Tunes always seemed like labor to me, not joy.

Let's put it this way -- I'd rather just hear the finished California Girls dozens of times than listen to the complete tracking session. But that's if I had to choose.

Yes, but the "Finished" or "Archived" SMiLE will make it a worth-while purchase for me (Unless it's just BWPS with the BB tapes...)

Brian is a little like Phil in that he always makes dire pronouncements about not being able to write anymore...until suddenly he's able to write several new songs and all is well. This pattern has been going on for well over ten years. I think Brian is disappointed that he can't write at the pace he did in the 60s, not realizing that none of his contemporaries write at that pace anymore. At least he acknowledged this time that inspiration will come when it comes (he'll probably forget that with the next dry spell).

As for THE SMiLE SESSIONS, perhaps the length of time it took to prepare the actual recordings took longer than expected (to do it right) and Capitol realizes it will require more time to set the whole marketing campaign rolling. Maybe some of the things we thought they should be doing to promote it will, in fact, start materializing over the next few months in preparation for a 2012 release.

I don't mind waiting a bit longer, but I think it would be wise for some kind of official statement to be made regarding the non-appearance this year (if, in fact, the set will not come out in 2011).

Didn't Brian also write a bunch of songs during the recording of That Lucky Old Sun, songs that weren't used on that LP?  Wonder if we'll ever hear those?

According to Brian, he wrote about 18 songs during that time. Ten of them are on the album proper, and three more original tunes (Message Man, Oh Mi Amor and Just Like Me and You) were released as bonus tracks. So that leaves five other tracks -- and frankly, Brian might be counting his versions of I'm into Something Good and TLOS in that total.

Point is, there may well be a few songs hanging around from that writing binge, but not an albums' worth. I do believe, however, that Brian kept writing with Scott intermittently afterward and piled up a few other new tunes.

Brian has actually been singin' the same tune for much longer than 10 years.  I believe that there's a very old interview/article in which Brian complains about having lost his creativity, working harder and achieving less, etc.    How old?  I'm pretty sure it was conducted for Tiger Beat or a similar magazine in 1965 or early 1966... before Pet Sounds, Good Vibrations and Smile.    Anyone else remember the interview I'm talking about?  Paging Mr. Cameron Mott...
