The mists of time have caused people to forget a lot of good work Landy did with Brian. Someday in the future we'll probably get an honest telling of the Melinda years.
Feel free to elaborate but i always thought Landy saved Brian from himself only to suck him dry. As for the truth coming out about the Melinda years, I doubt it. Not because I dont think some shady stuff happened but I doubt theres anyone left who could even really tell that story. I think if nothing else Melinda was heavy handed and misguided in her management of Brian's career but its taboo to say for many reasons. I wouldn't accuse her of any worse than that with what we now know.

Do you also demand a toll to cross the bridge?
Voltaire was SO right.

A few garbled timeframes in Jean Sievers’ memoir, but that is dwarfed by the wealth of stories we’d never know otherwise and the warmth that radiates throughout. The love and devotion that Brian’s circle brought to bear on the last phase of his life is truly heartwarming. Thanks to Jean for being so instrumental in giving Brian such a strong foundation for his second chance...

Confirmed: they did ALL of Love You except Mona, Lets Put Our Hearts Together and Love is a Woman.
I have no words... this is the greatest tribute to Brian imaginable.
Way to go Al Jardine Pet Sounds Band!
Uh, no, the greatest tribute to Brian would be to play some of the GREAT music he created, not this train-wreck era of Love You. I will never get what people hear in this material. It's embarrassing. It's juvenile. It never should have been released.

Thanks so much for posting this. A couple things have made me tear up in the last few days due to Brian’s passing - Dae Lims’ Surfer Girl tribute to Brian, and now this^ write up.
I urge everyone to read this - I appreciate the honesty, warts and all, and additionally it is wonderful to read about Brian’s heart of gold, humor, and bluntness - the latter even up to his last days.
Brian was definitely given a second chance at life after Landy, and he was able to bring so much joy to so many people in his solo era. Couldn’t be more thankful to all the people who supported Brian during that time. Jean, the band, his family and friends, they helped give us fans an incredible 25+ years.
Gah, it is so strange to write about Brian in the past-tense now.

It seems Brian "weirded out" VDP with Fire. An instrumental heavy metal piece when heavy metal did not yet exist. But then, much of Brian's story is weirding out people, be Mike, Carl, VDP, or Iggy Pop. Maybe not Dennis, Andy Paley and Darian. And I see he keeps weirding out most of his fandom.

Dae Lims' SMiLE is awesome. Could write a book on WHY it's awesome, but it would be interesting only for me. Just one hint: every freakin' track in it is a pocket symphony.

I appreciate Love You so much more now after hearing it's live performance. The vocals here, as well as the musicians, are incredible. And not only is Darian amazing, I think Rob does a great job too. Both of them blend perfectly with the Great Matt Jardine, who always brings his A game, and of course, Al. Would love to hear/see Sweet Sunday Kinda Love, if it's available.
I thought Rob was amazing! Pretty much every time he had a prominent part I was like, damn, great singer! (Check out his little moment at the end of I Wanna Pick You Up, for example!) Rob sings really well, and has a great stage presence too!

An absolute gem from Al Jardine, as reported on the EH Board:
"It was actually quite endearing to watch Matt guide his dad and help him get back on track when needed. Several times with a gentle hand on his shoulder. At one point Al recognized how much Matt was helping him and he quipped "I guess child really is the father of the man" and the entire band just cracked."
