Part of "Hawiian Song" - first recorded 6/19/67 - was reworked as "Little Pad".

I'm sure I've asked you this before but can't remember the answer - Have you heard Hawaiian Song? If so, any good?

It's been on Youtube for ages

It's absurd and annoying how many different threads there are, and keep being made everyday, so i didn't know where to put this. I just noticed, while reading over the tracklist yet again, that is says this:

The SMiLE Sessions (2CD; Digital; iTunes LP)

The SMiLE Sessions Box Set (5CD+Double LP+Two 7” Singles; digital)

This is taken from brianwilson.com. Two things: what's the difference between "digital" and "iTunes LP"? And more importantly, what to make of the "digital" regarding the box set. I wonder if that indeed means that the vinyl stuff will be included as digital files with some sort of download code, or maybe even the option to buy the entire 5 discs (plus the vinyl material?) digitally only.

Because iTunes isn't the only place to get things digitally.  Amazon sells mp3s too.  Also, the press release said the content on side 4 of the vinyl is "exclusive to the box."  That means it won't be on CDs, iTunes, or any place else (legally).

That's not "his finished SMiLE" - that's a copy of the SMiLE sessions box.

To be honest I was thinking of just torrenting TSS, but when that promo video came up I had to preorder. Seeing the box in Brian's hand has made it clear, that it was a good call. I need that freakin box.

Hey, I hear ya.  The packaging promises to be absolutely stellar -- everything any Smile fan could have hoped for... and then some.   Capitol's art department went above and beyond on this.  Maybe TSS won't be the "final word on Smile" some of us imagined, but make no mistake.  We are at least getting the final word on Smile art and packaging -- Frank Holmes' artwork in all its glory presented in a spectacular way.

Still. When I first heard about this, I was kinda hoping for a stereo Smiley Smile mix along with maybe some outtakes from that album, as, like it or not, that's the final result of that era. Another time and place, maybe, and certainly no real complaints that they didn't include this stuff.

I know what you mean - I'd love to hear a newly mixed version of Smiley Smile plus all the out-takes, too. But when you look at the SMiLE box track list, you'd have to agree that we can't really complain. Almost everything we could possibly want is there. If the only bits I have to go back to my boots for are the so-called humor skits and the Psychedelic Sounds chants (which I must have played all of three times at most...!), I'd have to say we've been well served.

And, of course, there's a slender, slippery sliver of hope that we might *still* get some kind of expanded Smiley Smile release... if this box sells a million units by January. Well, OK, that's a bit silly, but you know what I mean. If it does well, the door might be opened to all sorts of other expanded releases...

Count me among the SMiLE Dreamers...!

The SMiLE box set looks like it is going to dwarf the other three box sets - it looks massive and will look great in everyones collections. Can't wait to get my hands on my copy, which unfortunately wont be till late February.

Yeah, it's a remarkable concept. However,  it strikes me as likely that, while Brian will certainly receive a complete copy (and possibly already has), the box that he's signing in that picture is almost certainly empty.

Do all the different versions available go to 1 chart listing on billboard, or would they each get their own? Same question for RIAA status.

P.A. -- I think they probably each get their own RIAA stati...for example, to go gold, I'm guessing the box set will need to ship between 55,556 and 71,429 units (depending on whether the singles are counted as separate discs) to go gold, while the 2-CD set needs to sell 250,000....

Record companies probably pay money for certain chart positions jus like they have to do to get songs played on the radio.

This will probably he in the top 3 in its first week followed by a sharp drop off after that.

The box will be rated as  nine units:

5 CDs
2 LPs
2 45s

Thus it will have to sell 55,556. Frankly, I don't see that happening.

I say in January we all go back out and purchase multiple copies of "SMiLE" in all of it's formats.  Send them to friends as gifts, send them to enemies as peace offerings, use them for drink coasters and frisbees alike.

Fulfill the prophecy, live the dream.

I can finally say that I'll have enough to pick up the set come Nov. 1. I can't preorder it, but it'll make a great wedding present to myself. Now I just have to convince the wife to move beyond just Pet Sounds and try some of Brian's weirder work...
