An announcement tomorrow would make sense..
I've heard rumblings on twitter from record stores saying they are getting prices etc this week..
I don't really buy it, we'll see, the twitter thing said "this week", so Friday's the last chance. We'll see. I'd like it to be true, but I am not counting on it.
Yeah I feel the same, exact same
Pre order tomorrow would be perfect, let's wait and see

I was thinking about the structure of the other Smile songs...Worms, Child, Wind Chimes, Cabinessence, Wonderful, etc all have verse/chorus/verse structure. Of course, Brian was often recording in sections during the period but the songs he was writing were the usual verse/chorus/verse format.
In general, I agree that most were designed as v/c/v, including those first 4 you mentioned. Also "Vegetables", with the "Eat a Lot" chorus. To me "Wonderful" doesn't really have a chorus (unless you count the "Won-won-wonderful" line) - of course it is also one of the few that is not modular. We don't know for sure what TOMP/YAMS ultimately would have been, but I think it was unlikely to have a repeated verse or chorus. More notably, the cantina version of H&V doesn't have a chorus. So for whatever period of time H&V had no chorus - I think he saw it more as a rambling narrative (the inspiration VDP and/or BW have cited is Marty Robbins' "El Paso", which also doesn't seem to have an obvious v/c/v structure) - that could explain why he agonized on what pieces to put into it. The Elements was probably just 4 pieces put together. And back to "I'm in Great Shape"...I suspect it was not a v/c/v structure either; my hypothesis is it was once part of the Barnyard Suite.
So while a number of the Smile songs do have traditional v/c/v structure, there were plenty of pieces recorded for songs that may not have... And maybe that just gave him too many options to choose from when he didn't have a traditional structure to fall back on.

Capitol have NEVER given a release date to the boxset, only that it will be out sometime this year. How is it possible to postpone that which has not been announced? There's a Zen riddle for you right there ghost & Bill T.

I agree, I've been saying that for a while. That Direct Current Music website doesn't seem to mean much. I'm sure they got the information from a semi-legitimate source, but I don't think that information reflects anything concrete. It seems to me that Capitol is very eager to release this thing, but they don't have any idea when it will actually be ready so they just add to the schedule at the earliest possible date. Each month we hear that date "pushed back", but c'mon, if it's not ready by now there's no way was there any ever chance it was coming out in June. Really these dates just seem like just wishful thinking by Capitol.

My assumption is that there are logistical reasons for having a space set aside in the schedule. It doesn't mean the set is actually coming out on any of those unofficial times, just that the machinery is set up and ready for whenever the time comes.

Agreed, that was my point. October 4th and November 1st aren't real dates, just a hopeful goal.

Perhaps a boycott of Brian's Disney album(or as some have called it, his "Mickey Mouse" album) might help us extract "Smile" from Brian, Capitol & The Beach Boys. It would send a message that holding back the "Smile" box will not enhance the sales of the "Mickey Mouse" album.

We can always buy Brian's album, AFTER Capitol releases the "Smile" box.

As long as they both come out in a year's time I'm happy. I really could give a worm's fart which comes first, as I won't be able to afford either for a quite a while.

To Mark, Alan, or anybody offiicial that may be reading this, will you PLEASE consider getting this material out to us in some kind of Hi-Res format?
I know that not everybody cares about Hi-Res audio, but a lot of us do, and I think a lot more will.
The other day I was at a friends house listening to the Beatles USB stick which is 24-Bit 44.1K and I was stunned at the difference between those 24-Bit files and the 16-Bit CDs!..We got to hear them both side by side on the same system, and the difference was easy to hear. The 24-Bit files just sounded more "open" if that makes any sense. (I sure hope some of you guys that have heard that USB stick will chime in so i'm not left standing here alone!)
That got me thinking about the SMiLE Sessions Box.
With the history of this material and it's problems getting released, what are the chances of another crack at it happening anytime soon, if ever.
That's why i'm thinking it would be wonderful to hear this music at 24-Bit 96Khz or even 24-Bit 192Khz so the sound quality can be ahead of the curve the same way the stunning music contained in the box is.
As for me, I will buy and love the box set any way it comes, and would STILL pay to get Hi-Res downloads if that was the only way to get them.
Anyway, thanks for letting me get my 2 cents in, and thank you for putting this box together

There once was a time when we pondered the question whether this thread would make it to 100 pages; then, whether it would make it to 100 before, or after the release of the Smile Sessions Box Set.
That seems long ago. Even the MOJO special '60 edition with that single has fallen off of the radar.
There has been no summer of note in Europe (well, summer 2011 fell on a Tuesday, to be specific).
Viagra sales have gone up again.
And we're standing at 140+ pages.
What happened?

200 is nice, but as the original number for the smile LP was to be ST2580, I think we should shoot for 258.0 pages; or, as LPs play at 33-1/3 RPM, howzabout 331.3 pages?
Perhaps there's some special numerology significance to SMiLE/The Smile Sessions, that has been overlooked, and when we get to that number of pages we'll magically get the definitive Capitol announcement.

Viagra sales are naturally inclined to rise. And we've had a hot summer here in the UK. At least, London, Manchester,, Birmingham, Bristol and one or two other areas have.
The cooling off is indeed welcome. Insults and venomous banter get tiring after a while – i've even stopped watching Eastenders.
We need to practise sycophantic praise and adulation, as the release in a few weeks will enable Mark, Allan, Craig & Co to break their silence, & post here to tell us how it's been as we shower congrats upon them.
As David Leaf would say, keep the faith!

No one appreciates what they've got, man. No one appreciates that we now have vinyl versions of Cabinessence & Wonderful. Or can at least hear them on YouTube. For me it's pretty exciting just to have those two songs out in such a format.
And also, since time does not truly exist, and its passing is forever passing, things which appear significant become less so until they are all but forgotten.
