I'm having my box set delivered to me at work. UPS says it's on the truck out for delivery. I just saw the UPS truck stop here, so a few minutes later I went down to receiving.
NOTHING.
Someone said that the driver said he was supposed to have one more box for us somewhere on the truck, but couldn't find it.
He'll stop back later if he comes across it...

In terms of audio, the box has it all.
The stand-alone vinyl offers no more audio than the boxed vinyl.
The 2-CD set has no audio that's not on the 5-CD set.
Unfortunately, that's not true. The H&V parts 1-2 single is on the 2-CD set but not the 5-CD set.
The AUDIO is still there, just not strung together in the custom "part 1" / "part 2" format.

OMG!
An ENORMOUS brown box was just hand delivered to me in the lobby of my office building! I actually spent 1 minute telling the Ontrac delivery guy all about the Beach Boys and SMiLE...... (he smiled and slowing backed away... must've thought I was crazy!)
calm calm calm... must remain calm!

UPS doesn't say so, but it's probably already at my house. It was a half hour away like six hours ago.
but my power's out so I'm staying at a friend's house. what am I even going to do when I get the box? I can't listen to any of it without power. I guess I'll just read the book and stuff.

Hi all
This is a great message board long time fan..
A couple of quick questions...I've had the big Monmouth box since Friday.... in the cool hardbound book there is a great smile sessiongraphy question...mine starts with Beach boys all their names then goes to CD 2 ..This maybe a dumb question but why is-not there a sessions info for CD 1 or is it spread out there out the 5 cds, listening ??
2. I noticed BW never used Capitol Records studio in the tower..was this consider outdated in 1966-67
3. for a newbie...what are like top 3 unreleased or better sounding things I should listen for...not counting the teeter tooter long song
cheers
been enjoying everyone's stories and love of this great great album..

Help, I'm freaking out.
Just got home with my boxset, and it happens there's a guy doing work on our basement (bad timing, Mr. Landlord!). So there are workshop sounds galore going on. Kind of appropriate, but...
No sh!t - right as "Fire" was dying down into the water chant, the smoke alarm goes off!!!!!!!!!
Turns out the guy had set it off accidentally with dust from his SkilSaw or something. But for a minute there I was freaking out.
Brian's music starting fires!!!!!!! People, this music is dangerous.

Brian didn't like using Capitol's studio because it wasn't enough to accommodate his needs. He fought to be allowed to record at other studios pretty early on, like 1963-ish, if I'm not mistaken.

IMHO, here are my three picks (no order) / what I'm looking forward to:
- the 1967 piano solo version of "Surf's Up"
- the backing vocal montage
- the "Do You Like Worms" outtake with the cough...I hope it's there!! Yeah, I know, I've been listening to the
Good Vibrations
disc 2 version since 1993, which DOES NOT have the cough, but I'm used to the cough by now!

Yes, but I had to come in to work so I'll probably get a note saying to pick it up tomorrow... unless I'm lucky and its left on my doorstep!

Nothing surprising about that at all.
- Remember what happened when Brian's band started rehearsing "Mrs. O'Leary's Cow"?
- The day
The Smile Sessions
was announced, there was a huge fire that wiped out several houses near where I used to live (cat -- yes, same place you've been to; our old place was spared, though), and I think around the same time there was an earthquake in Japan. (there's your "earth" element.)
- I think when the release date was finally announced, that's when the hurricane was getting ready to wipe out New Jersey and New York.

After what may be the longest day of my life, I've just got through the door from work to see an amazon package lying in the hallway. I have Smile! Right now I wish I still took drugs! About to put it in the player.... see you all on the other side baby!

Ordered mine August 26 about an hour or two after pre-order became available. I stupidly chose free super-saver shipping so I have to wait till appx the 4th to recieve mine.

Got mine minutes after it first went up on amazon for $110. I still haven't received mine. It wouldn't surprise me if they processed the higher priced ones first. I paid for delivery by November 1.
