Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Brian / Al / Blondie Summer 2015 Tour Thread

Just got home from the Mann in Philly.
I arrived just as Rodriguez began his set; people were very receptive to his performance. I've listened to some of his stuff before but haven't really spent a lot of time with it. I plan to in the future.
Pretty amazing stuff on display. My thoughts echo pretty much everyone else's in the thread who has seen the recent shows. Just an all around great time. Always great to see Al and Blondie alongside the man himself. The mix was a bit wonky early in the show; Matt was hard to hear and some of the instruments seemed a bit buried in the mix. It was pretty cool to hear some of the No Pier Pressure songs in concert, but to be honest, Runaway Dancer has to go. It just doesn't work either on the album or (barely) in concert.
The big moment for me was the Friends medley. I was so glad Brian dusted those two songs off and did them again tonight. I was kind of stunned that Do It Again wasn't played; seems like a glaring omission or it could not be fit into the itinerary due to a slightly abbreviated show. Blondie was a trip during his mini-set. Probably one of the best Wild Honey performances I've heard. And of course, lots of Al to be found in the mix as well.
Great show. See this tour, people. And again, bolded, italicized, underlined, striked-through, glowed, shadowed, marquee'd, and BLOWN UP NICE AND HUGE...
Seriously. Do it.
They did "Do It Again" during soundcheck, but said it wouldn't be in the show. I second, awesome show at The Mann!!!

Anyone else attend the Clay Center show?
hi don..glad you liked the show. I was going to go and meet scott but alas I messed up my back last week..L4L5 disk problems. could not walk, lay down or even sit without being in pain. had to get it popped back into place during 2 visits. better now. sucks big time turning 60 this weekend but at least i'm on the right side of the ground... Glad you're still with us (on the top side where the grass is). You'll adapt to 60 same as 40, 50 etc. I'll come back from the BAD/BECK show to my 61st. Are you going to make the D.C. show? Jan scored the Bruce autographed LP same as she scored the BW autograph in Morgantown. You should have seen her. She just walked up and handed it to him. He he picked it up, took it to his organ, signed it and brought it back to her. She has become so adept at snagging signatures that I no longer even try, just leave it to her. Hey donald! I was at the Clay Center show as well and I totally saw Bruce handing back an LP to someone, so cool that was you two! The Clay Center show was amazing, they were tight and sounded so good at the venue. I hope they make more stops here! My only letdowns were no Wild Honey and Isn't It Time, otherwise it was an excellent night! My favorite Mike & Bruce concert by far Loved "Good To My Baby"! Did you also catch John singing "But she let Mike Love come between us and it shattered our plans" line? Haha

Speaking of "Fun, Fun, Fun" anyone else catch the "Rhapsody In Blue" quote at the end?
Yeah, that's a hangover from Brian's band I think, I remember them doing it at the RFH for the Gershwin tour, which of course makes total sense there - it's still cool on a wholly BB's show. They've been doing that all along -- if you watch the Brian Wilson On Tour DVD Scott does it there -- it's something he's added all along. Wow, very cool! I had no idea he's been doing it until now. Thanks! hypehat: Yeah, for sure!

You can probably find 5 other old threads where I mentioned this, but I saw Al do a gig in 2005 with a small band (Steve Heger's band), and Al played several of the guitar leads on stuff like "Fun Fun Fun" and "409." He's by no means a virtuoso guitarist, but he's a lot better than he usually let's on. It blew my mind a little bit actually. Speaking of "Fun, Fun, Fun" anyone else catch the "Rhapsody In Blue" quote at the end?

New vocal bits with fixed line/longer fade, as you mentioned making it longer anyway. (also another harmony at the end I always sing when listening to 'Til I Die, wondering if you can use it) http://www.mediafire.com/?58i8f468u9qr08vFeeling the urge to do another track.... the question is, what? One cracking idea I had, and I can't remember whether I mentioned it, is for each of us do a section of Heroes & Villains (let's say, the BWPS/TSS sequence, and we've already got Prayer, so Gee/Verse/Chorus/Cantina/Children and Sunny Down Snuff/Prelude to Fade - there are 6 of us, right?) each, then link them together in a fine homage to 'modular' recording. Anyone game? Points given to how nuts you can make your own section. I'd be up for it! I'd love to take the "Gee" section

Nice sounds, DBD, though it does sound like the tempo wavers a little, did you use a click?
Thanks! I used the original song as a guide, do you think a click would be better? Possibly, I'll try syncing it up with the original. Okay, if it doesn't work, let me know! I'll be happy to re-record it
