does it skip in the first verse?

Yeah, I was having trouble with the guitar sound, I'll have to redo that

Here's what I have done so far with "That's Not Me". Mostly organ, but also have added guitar sounds too.
Will add more to it this week! Smiley

You're welcome! Smiley

Perhaps I'm a bit late to the punch, but I would gladly contribute some vocals, my most comfortable range is about D3 to about D5. I can also record drums, some misc. percussion, acoustic, electric and nylon-stringed guitars, bass, keys, brass, clarinet and violin. I have a decent ear for harmonies and can mix tracks with a decent ability so I could produce a track or two as well. If Breakaway is unfinished I would gladly lend my voice to it  Smiley

If you would like to work on "That's Not Me" I could use help with drums/percussion when I get the basic
track down Smiley
Sure, I could do that, contact me when you're ready.
Additionally, I could sing some BGs if you like. Smiley

Cool! Will do and sounds great! Smiley

Sounds good!

Alright! I can't find my original recording so I'll make a new one! Smiley

Oh nice! Sounds good to me, I'll do a bunch of vocal arrangements for KMB, so ill start whenever the track is done.

Also, maybe we could do a Pet Sounds song like we talked about in the thread as a "test run" for a full album break down?

Can we do That's Not Me?
It seems simpler than most other Pet Sounds tracks, and I want that Mike Lead!

I've done a backing track of That's Not Me before. If I can find it I'll post it, if not I can make
a new one

So it just occurred to me that I can really easily put the guide vocals together for Our Prayer using my recording. So who all wants a line? The more the merrier--I'd love to get a huge chorus feel, so seriously like 3-4 for each line would be amazing. If I don't get a bunch of volunteers I'll just start picking people out who volunteered generally earlier.

I'd love to help out!

Ditto! Smiley

Okay, I just did a rough sketch of the Soulful Old Man Sunshine scat vocals, and there are at least 8 different parts going in this tune (possibly more in the "SOMS" break). So far we've got me, EgoHanger, and seltaeb. Who else is in?

Count me in!

With the excitement of the e-collaboration thread I thought I'd post some covers I've done recently. They're just
dry mixes and done for fun. Mostly Beach Boys and two Harry Nilsson covers, feel free to check them out here!

The Beach Boys: Cherry, Cherry Coupe, Roller Skating Child, and Pom Pom Play Girl (avoid this one if you want  Cool Guy)
Nilsson: Driving Along, The Lottery Song

I'd like to take a vocal part in "Break Away" if available. Range: Mike, or Brian falsetto

I was sitting in class this morning and had the wildest idea for Amusement Parks. Sing a variation of H&V/Bicycle Rider theme over the instrumental break.

I am totally down with that
38  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / Smiley Smilers Who Make Music / Re: The Official Smiley Smile e-Collaboration Thread (delegating parts now!) on: October 07, 2012, 07:37:58 PM
Are requests being made for more covers for the album? I was thinking "Amusement Parks, U.S.A" since
that one isn't covered too often

So long as you, or someone else is willing to do a cover, it should be done! I'm doing a couple more for FOTM and Beets By Dre (stellar new username) but we really haven't locked a tracklist down. Just keep calling them until we get an album, I suppose?

(Cracking sax work on Stevie BTW)

I'd pester Egohanger, it'd work with his garagey sound imo and he's been far too modest on this thread  Grin

Personally, Amusement Parks USA is not one of my faves at all, but I'll sing ANYTHING! Smiley Actually, it might be cool to give it a full on Brian circa-60s lead, as opposed to the way Mike sings about half on the original. Not that there's anything wrong with his lead, he's great. I think that old saying applies here, make a track and I shall sing!

@Hype - Garagey sound? How dare you, sir. I make full, grandiose, audiophile Pet Sounds and Smile productions in my bedroom in my bathrobe while eating snacks! For the lurve of Melinda, this isn's right at all. I am the next B-dub! (poor attempt at a joke).

@FOTM - I didn't get a chance to d/l and hear what you've done. I'll probably forget. But, in general, you have good taste, and quoting from the brilliant track that is Let Him Run Wild couldn't possibly turn out bad.

Thanks for the compliment, hypehat! Glad you like it! Smiley

Okay, sounds great! Neat idea, I'll get to working on the track, thanks! Smiley

My lord, those harmonies are freaking incredible!!!!!!!!! I got a "Don't Talk unused vocal snippet" vibe from the stacked thing you did near the end of the second verse. Prime-era Beach Boys style. Genius.

Thanks dude! Def some "Don't Talk" chord action going on there! I used the lead in from Let Him Run Wild in the beginning haha.

I'd love to pitch in on this! Awesome idea.

Instruments: Tenor Sax, Ukulele, Bass, Keys
Vocals: I'm in the mid/bass range of Mike and Dennis and can do a falsetto

Let me know!

Wanna add some live sax to Stevie??

Yes! I would love to

Great! It's in the key of G. Maybe some root notes in the chorus? Or you could just ad lib a few takes and I could pull from those. Whatever you're feeling.

You can download it here: http://soundcloud.com/smile-a-d/stevie-rough-mix-no-background

Sure! I'll try both methods and see what I can give you with that. I'm digging the cover so far!

Hey man - wanna add some uke chord strums in the 2nd chorus??

Yeah, sure man! That would be awesome - what are the chords?

Awesome!

Chords are:

G, C, G, C, G, C, D, D
G, C, G, C, G, C, D, D
C, D, Bm, Em, Am, D
G.... C

Cool! Thanks, man!

Thanks for the info, donald. I may have to take a trip up to this one! Always wanted to see a Beach Boys
gig w/a symphony.

It's kind of ironic how Van Dyke Parks got one of his first big-time music credits working on Disney's "The Jungle Book", now Brian is cutting a Disney record. I wonder if the irony was noticed by anyone, and whether Van Dyke was asked to contribute something to Brian's Disney record?

I would LOVE for Brian to cover "The Bare Necessities"!! That would be awesome if Van Dyke had a roll in this
next project

I loved that part too!

This footage is amazing!!! Anyone notice Al's gesture at 0:45?  Smiley

I definitely prefer the live versions of Do It Again and Marcella live over the original.
Always dig the lick on the intro to Do It Again, one of my favorite concert moments!

I'd say since they first started performing it! (So 1965?) If this is the ending you mean, where it's briefly played by Carl:

And don't forget Matt Jardine too! (at least vocally on the "Home Improvement" version)
