Bike- Pink Floyd, I always loved Syd Barret's unorthodox ,yet clever  lyrical arrangements  and Samuel Barber's -Adagio For Strings( I Get goosebumps every time I hear it)

Missed this totally! Do you need a Mike?
Definitely need a Mike--but anyone who wants to can join in on any part they want, even if we've already got someone covering it already! I'd like to get as many voices as possible on this one to get a huge choral feel.

Id be happy to help. Smiley

Hey Dave, do you realize how fortunate you are to possess the type of voice you have? In my experience it's quite unique for a male singer to be able to make that transition into a falsetto or head voice so smoothly and effortlessly like you are able to do. Like others have said, you sound a lot like 60's Brian Wilson and much of the reason for this is he also possessed that same type of voice.  (Now don't go ruining that gift with a bunch of cigarettes and cocaine!)  Grin You also have a good ear which helps a lot.

I've really enjoyed listening to your covers. Really impressive stuff! The only thing I would suggest is cutting back on the amount of reverb on your vocals. It really pushes your vocals back and reduces the clarity. You've got a great voice. Let's hear it more clearly!

Gregg
Thank a lot Gregg , yes a couple of people have mentioned the same thing to me RE the reverb I use!
Might have to ease back on it a tad for future recordings.
Thx again for your comments and advice.

Ps ,I gave up the cigarettes a couple of years ago. Grin

Am I the only person that thinks this is stupid and pointless, not to mention that's its a complete waste of space to even be posted in the first place?

My cover of a Timeless classic. I hope you all enjoy listening to it, half as much as I enjoyed singing it!

Cheers Dave. Smiley Smiley

I'm currently working on a cover of Don't Worry Baby which I'm hoping to have  finished within the next couple of days.
Here I've screen recorded a section of the harmonies to show you guys how I put it all together.
Cheers Dave.

Lol just made a Moog-Era-Brian "In My Room"

It's too crazy to use haha

I'd like to hear that! Grin Cool

Id like to put my hand up for lead vocals for Dont Worry Baby and In My Room if that's ok. Also I'd be more than happy to tackle any of the other lead parts if they are required ,as well as harmonies. Cool Smiley

Absolutely! One thing on DWB.. I mentioned earlier in the thread, but SurferGirl7 volunteered to sing and I think it would be cool to have her sing on the chorus (since it's basically quoting the girl). Perhaps a harmony duet?

Maybe dmc could do the verses (which are sung from Brian's perspective) and SG7 could do the choruses (which are sung from Brian's girlfriend's perspective)Huh

I think that's the way to go.. should sound very very cool. I was thinking we could do the same kinda thing with Somewhere Near Japan, except I then realized that pretty much the whole song is from the girl's perspective LOL

Sounds perfect!

I love the DWB backing track ,and I'd be happy to have  Surfergirl doing the lead on that one(I didn't see her post earlier). Having a female doing lead with the rest of us on backing vocals would be an interesting combination. Let me know if you guys need a falsetto for the backing vocals. Cool Guy Smiley

Whoever suggested Break Away, great idea!

I second this!

I'd also kinda like to cover 'In Blue Hawaii' from BWPS. Get dmcguire70 to do the lead vocals, the rest of us contribute background vocals (especially for the intro). Make it sound vintage '67 (maybe even mixed in mono). Anyways, just a thought!

Id be happy to do backing vocals for Blue Hawaii, not sure about lead, though I could give it a crack.
As for the other tracks mentioned by Egon, count me in guys. Smiley

17  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / Smiley Smilers Who Make Music / Surfs Up Cover on: June 24, 2012, 10:36:45 PM
I've done a cover of the DEMO version of surfs up.Its my first recording with me playing an instrument ,
in this case piano, so its a very very ordinary piano track. It was quite a rushed job with work and family commitments
but I managed to get a bit of free time to put this all together.
Cheers!

19  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: New album info (as it rolls out...) on: February 20, 2012, 07:16:52 PM
I really hope and pray that the boys don't use any kind of excessive pitch correction on the vocals for the new album, after listening however to Do it Again-Particularly Mikes main vocal- it's looking quite possible that may be the case.
I hope I'm wrong!

The highlight of the night for me was Dave Grohls acceptance speech in which he he talked about music coming from the heart and the mind without being tainted or touched up by computers.

It was less about "evil computers" and more about playing from your heart.

I think Dave's main point was to highlight
(amongst other things) pitch correction and that its OK too not sing every-note pitch perfect.
It was a dig at contemporary recording techniques, so actually it was ALL about the Evil computers. Evil Evil

And did you notice the house band cut him off?  He offended most of the current music makers!

lol Yeah and a few of the guests in the audience looked a little nonplussed as well.

The Boys Boys were reasonably good but i could hardly hear Mikes vocals even when he was singing lead let alone the harmonies.

i'm in the same boat as Dave--work is crazy busy and my wife and i are expecting our first little one any week now (Smiley)... BUT i'm actually kinda intrigued by the idea of an international smileysmile-based e-collaboration. one of us could do a backing track.. Dave records the Brian/Al parts, i do the Bruce/Carl ones, Mike does the Dennis/Mike ones.. i'd be happy to piece it all together.

not a bad thought...

It would be interesting to record something with a mix of our voices and another person doing the backing track, because , quite frankly I'm sick of hearing my own voice all the time lol. Also my daughter is starting school next week so I might have bit more time on my hands
I'd be happy to provide the top two vocals for any kind of BB's cover. California Girls is another song Im thinking of tackling.
Any other ideas for an initial BBs song?

(BTW good luck with the new bub Egon)

Lol , good one Mikie!
