Amazing, If I had a "real" band, it'd be me, you, and egon. :D

The Not-So-Beach Boys!

 LOL

seriously Dave, I could listen to your stuff all day long. you sound JUST like Brian, especially on the "hey hey hey"s.

Actually I would love to collaborate with you guys ,however work commitments family and different time zones make it nigh on impossible for me.

31  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Your Favorite Intro & Outro To Beach Boys Songs? on: January 05, 2012, 03:53:36 AM
Favorite intro-     Good Vibrations-   The organ with its weird effect together with Carl's singing is intoxicating.
Favorite outro-    In The Back Of My Mind-   The descending chord progression at the end is a masterpiece in itself.
32  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: If You Could Only Listen To One Beach Boys Song For The Rest Of Your Life.. on: December 22, 2011, 01:59:30 AM
The Warmth of The Sun . Actually i could listen to the key change at 1.37 forever. One of the things i love about Brian's music is the unexpected but uplifting chord/key changes and vocal arrangements. It's what sets Brian apart from other composers/arrangers and makes his music so special and unique.

If Van Dyke Parks were to become the lyricist  that would be an interesting turn of events. Shocked
34  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Mrs O'Learys Cow and the fire truck. on: November 22, 2011, 02:13:10 PM
This is a true story.
Yesterday whilst driving I had Mrs O'Leary's Cow aka Fire playing on my car stereo at a pretty high volume .Whilst in the process of turning right at an intersection out of nowhere came two fire trucks blaring their VERY LOUD horns at me causing me to swerve out of the way and nearly have an accident. (Cue Twilight Zone music)
The hairs on the back of my neck were up for the rest of the day!  Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked

36  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Vocals Only Vega-Tables Demo on: November 21, 2011, 12:33:53 AM
I've listened to it closely, and I think it goes like this:

Mike:I'm gonna be around my vegetables, I'm gonna chow down my vegetables

Brian: I like you most of all

Mike: My favorite vegetables

Nope - verses are Mike, rest is Brian.

As someone who has studied and dissected Brian's vocals( Painstakingly sometimes .i might add! Wall )i'm 98% sure its Brian singing- I like you most of all -then goes back To Mike singing -My Favorite Vegetable.

Make that 100%. Even Andrew is convinced now. Grin

 Cheesy Cheesy

I found this video on you tube and It seems Brian had the melody for the Kiss song I Was Made For Loving You well before Kiss did.
I always thought Brian was ahead of his time! Shocked Shocked Shocked

Lol, it's ridiculous to say Wild Honey doesn't have a psychedelic influence, or even psychedelic elements in it. Anyone with a pair of ears and can hear that.

Then you never really listened to 50s R'n'B, etc., did you ? The only psychedeic thing about Wild Honey is Bruce's organ solo and even that could be discussed. Influence is another prospect but musicalley there's (almost) nothing psychedelic in the whole album

The only  psychedelic thing about wild honey is -Let The Wind Blow- which I could imagine being played down at Haight Ashbury.

I know I'm going rub people up the wrong way on this but whilst I really like Wild Honey, I dislike the title track. Carl vocals are scratchy and are grating to the ears. Its hard to believe it's the same  Carl that sang God Only Knows or even Cabinessence.
42  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Can't Wait Too Long on: November 05, 2011, 06:48:54 PM
Everytime I hear this song, you know what I think about?

"You Know My Name (Look Up the Number)"

Am I alone?

No you aren't alone, both songs are made up of several different sections/modular recordings.
The songs sound very different to each other but are similar in the way they were recorded.

Jeesh you sound just like Brian! That a cappella coda was brilliantly done.

You should sing the vocals for 'Do You Like Worms' on the vintage '66 track!

Thanks Rab , I might make DYLW my next one!
By the way I just picked up my Box today from the courier after missing delivery yesterday.
Now I'm in rapture!! Rock! Ahhh! Ahhh!
44  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Tune X and Gee. on: November 05, 2011, 12:29:29 AM
I'm sure this may have been mentioned already but has anyone noticed the similarity between Tune x off the box set and the beginning of Gee?
45  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / Smiley Smilers Who Make Music / Re: Wind Chimes by Dave on: November 04, 2011, 06:57:21 PM
I thought a SMiLE track would be appropriate with the box set coming out so I've done a cover of Wind Chimes using an original BB's backing track with me on all vocals.
Hope you like it.

Amazing as always, Dave! I wish this board got more traffic--you and the other folks on here are incredibly talented and fun to listen to, but it seems like it's only the same 10 people who check the music out. Anyhow, I'm excited to hear your next one!

Much appreciated.

Man, you guys make me jealous.  I can't do this sort of thing.  Sounds great.

Awesome!
48  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: A bitch about the bitchers. on: November 01, 2011, 05:00:55 AM
On another thread someone pointed out on Cabinessence there is a bit of noise at 1.01 and
that it wasn't good enough for Boyd and Linett to let some thing like that get on the box set.
While there IS  a bit of static that is BARELY audible ,If someone hadn't have mentioned it I
would never have noticed it.
Pedantic beyond comprehension!
49  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Box Set delays in Australia? on: November 01, 2011, 04:52:58 AM
