Non Smiley Smile Stuff / The Sandbox / Amplifier/Effect Pedals - Help Needed
|
on: October 27, 2020, 06:27:29 AM
|
So I recently picked up an electric guitar, amp and pedals for myself. The amp is a Fender Champion 20 and I have noticed that the pedals don't sound so great going through it. Distortion and reverb pedals. Is this is common issue with this particular amp? If so, can anyone recommend an amp that can handle pedals well? Keep in mind that this is just for me messing around in my basement and I don't want to spend too much. Thanks.

Saw Brian last week in Windsor, ON. Seventh time seeing him live in ten years. (Third Pet Sounds show). Got to be honest, this one depressed me. *IN MY OPINION*, he shouldn't be on stage at this point in his life. Personally, I wouldn't be too upset if that was the last time I'd see him perform. This was the only time I left one of his shows feeling sad for the man. To everyone who will be attending future shows, don't let this scare you. It's still great to hear this brilliant music performed by his fantastic band.

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: CD Twofers Sound Quality 1990 vs. 2001

Thanks. They sound the same in every player I've tried and they sound horrendous when played through iTunes. So I'm to believe these are due to cd rot? Both were purchased from the same seller on Ebay. I'm awaiting more of the '90 twofers (from different sellers). If they are static free then it looks like I'll be picking up these two titles again.

Sorry to bring up an old topic, but i need an answer to something. I Just picked up the Party/Stack O Tracks and Smiley Smile/Wild Honey 1990 twofers. I am hearing pretty constant static noises running through both cd's? I know these cd's are no-noised, but is THAT the audio end result of that process? If so, yikes. Let me know if i just simply have faulty discs or if those are indeed how they truly sound. Thanks.

Two months later, I got to say, my ears are slightly enjoying the DCC version over AF. The only minor turn off to that one is having the "train/barking" coda as a separate track. I'll still keep my AF because from what I understand it's the closest to the original '66 mono LP you can find on cd. (Warts and all). Also picked up the 2012 MFSL stereo version mastered by Rob Loverde. Loving the sound of that one! I'm thinking of picking up the Greenline 2800 mono cd as well. One can never have enough copies of this timeless album.....as my wife lovingly rolls her eyes at me.

The audiophile in me has recently been researching various versions of PS on cd. I have the '93 and '09 Steve Hoffman mono mastered versions coming my way soon. As far as stereo versions on cd go, I own the '97 box set version, the 2001 mono/stereo version and the 50th anniversary version. Would really appreciate any input from you guys as to which other CD STEREO versions are worth picking up. Thanks.

Are you referring to the Abracadabra 2 disc set? I see that there are a few cd editions of Heart Food that were released post 2006. Just wondering if any of those have attempted to clean up the distortion.

Having just recently gotten into the music of Judee Sill, can anyone tell me if there is a cd version of Heart Food out there that does not have the somewhat annoying/distracting distortion that my ears are picking up? Is that something that happened during the transfer to cd or was that there on the original LP to begin with? Thanks.

Drove an hour to see it.....and it was more than worth the drive! For some reason the scene that stuck out in my mind the most was when Brian dropped acid and the backing track to Don't Talk began to play. I just loved that little moment. The girlfriend got a kick out of Van Dyke's exit from the pool area. Also, how many of us got our picture taken with the Love And Mercy movie poster at the theatre? I can't be the only one.

OK. I need to know which CD version of O&O has the best mono mix. So many Damn versions of this album!
1) 40th anniversary edition with both the mono and stereo versions. (Repertoire)
2) 2011 "The CBS years 1967-1969" with both the mono and stereo versions as well as the unreleased R.I.P. album. (Repertoire)
3) 2008 (Big Beat UK) version with both mono and stereo versions.
Any help would be appreciated.

I was half paying attention to the scene, (I'm not a huge WD fan), but my girlfriend jokingly said, "It would be funny if they were playing The Beach Boys to lure the zombies." Moments later she looked at me and said, "It's Love And Mercy!". Honestly, I didn't even recognize it. Again, half paying attention. Which version was it?

I had trouble "getting" Sgt. Pepper until I heard the mono mix. All of the hype for it is justified. The tonality and balance in the mix is PERFECT. I was never a huge Beatles fan, but when I first heard the mono box set a few years back I was blown away. It gave me a whole new appreciation for their work. I rarely ever, (minus the last two albums), listen to their stereo mixes. Seriously, anyone who hasn't bothered giving the mono set a listen is truly missing out.

Always liked me some STP.
I'd say Core is my least favourite album of theirs, with Tiny Music being my fav. One of the most underappreciated albums of the 90's....along with Soup by Blind Melon.
Purple was a big step forward in their evolution and a solid album from start to finish.
No.4 is so-so. The slower songs really shined. I Got You and Atlanta are gems.
Shangri-La Dee Da is a pretty varied album. Perhaps just a little bit too much filler on it. I think it would have worked better as a double album, as it was originally planned. Still, this album has some of my favourite STP tunes.
Their 2010 album is my second least favourite offering by them. Some good songs on there, but overall it kind of bored me.
Also, I'm usually not one for wild and showy guitar solos, but some of their solos just blow me away.
