26  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: MiC up for order on Amazon, August release on: June 15, 2013, 06:12:41 AM
I'm pretty excited for this thing. I speak as someone who has yet to get any of the remasters and didn't bother picking up 50 Big Ones. I'll judge this set based on what is actually on it, and not what I had hoped would be on it. Sure, I wanted to finally hear certain songs in great quality, but there are songs on this set that I've never hear before, period. This is enough to make me a happy Beach Boys fan.

Obviously I'm not proclaiming to predict the future, but I can picture (wish) the BB's camp/Capitol releasing yet another summer hits package in the next couple of years with Carry Me Home on it being the marketed selling point for us, (The hardcore demographic).

Nothing official, but last Christmas my girlfriend made me a Murry Wilson snowglobe. That picture of him with a pipe. She put a little Xmas hat on him and it says, "I'm a genius, too". I'd like to think i'm the only person in the world with a Murry Wilson snowglobe.

Funny thing about me...I'd rather listen to the worst Beach Boys song that the best Beatles song. :/

Same here. Personally, i don't "feel the love", so to speak, when i'm listening to The Beatles like i do when i listen to the boys. It's hard to explain.
29  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: The Beach Boys' calmest songs on: March 02, 2013, 04:11:58 PM
Cool, Cool Water (Sunflower). In particular, the remainder of the song after the water chant.
30  Smiley Smile Stuff / 'Rank the Tracks' / Re: Rank the tracks #11: Pet Sounds on: February 21, 2013, 07:08:54 PM
This is the best i could do without overthinking it/going insane.
Fav to least fav.

1. Caroline, No
2. Here Today
3. Wouldn't it be Nice
4. Don't Talk
5. You Still Believe in Me
6. IJWMFTT
7. God Only Knows
8. Let's Go Away for Awhile
9. That's Not Me
10. Sloop John B

I used to use the end of "Had to Phone Ya" as my ringtone...

If i actually had a cell phone that would be my choice. My girlfriend's is the Fire Intro. I try not to call her late at night when she's sleeping....don't want to freak her out.

Much prefer the album version.

Those solo segments seem older, maybe because Brian's hair wasn't as grey.

That's what i was thinking too. I thought maybe it was just the lighting because, as i can recall, there were no other older interview clips aired on the special.
34  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Front Row Center - The Beach Boys Doing It Again on: June 29, 2012, 09:01:48 PM
Just watched it. Pretty good stuff. Brian, during a solo interview segment, seemed  to have a lot more life in him (so to speak) than i've seen in quite some time. There was also about 20 seconds or so of what i'm assuming was a cut that didn't make it onto TWGMTR. Sounded really nice. The black and white GV footage was a real treat to watch. Brian looked so intense in some of those shots.
35  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Downer Wife/Girlfriend Hubby/Boyfriend Comments on: June 27, 2012, 07:54:04 PM
The fact that my girlfriend actually enjoys The Beach Boys quite a bit makes me enjoy her that much more. Ha. She was into them before I met her and since then I've turned her onto some of their lesser known material.
This Weekend we're having a "Beach Boys Appreciation Night", which consists of booze, steak, hamburgers, watching BB's dvd's, listening to some of their albums and general BB's discussion. This was all HER idea. I'm a lucky guy.

I've always enjoyed M.I.U more.

I'm pretty sure that all of that one camera man's shots were used for the screens. Oh well, still can't believe how great lastnight was.
38  Smiley Smile Stuff / Concert Reviews / Re: Show 33: Molson Amphitheatre - Toronto, ON 6/19/12 on: June 20, 2012, 03:49:29 PM
The camera man was there the whole show. There indeed was screen projecting of the on stage action as well as the fans in attendance. I would love it if some of this  performance made it onto a future live dvd.
39  Smiley Smile Stuff / Concert Reviews / Re: Show 33: Molson Amphitheatre - Toronto, ON 6/19/12 on: June 20, 2012, 02:20:59 PM
One of the best night's of my life! Two days ago i somehow won a Live Nation contest for 2 free tickets AND 1 free photo pass to go down to the side of the stage during the first two songs! Keep in mind that i already had two tickets for the show purchased, (very last row way off in the corner).

So i walked in with security and official photographers and was able to go right up to the stage and take as many pics as i liked. I took a video of the first song, Do It Again. I even got one of the pro photographers (super nice guy)  to take a picture of me right up against the stage while the band played behind me. All of the boys are in the shot! I cannot stop looking at the picture. It blows my mind. I am the happiest guy in the world right now.

The show itself was brilliant. Couldn't believe how great they all sounded and played. Seriously, one of the best night's ever!
40  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: THE BEACH BOYS - That's Why God Made The Radio SS member reviews on: June 13, 2012, 02:56:50 PM
Been listening to the new album pretty much non-stop for the past week. I got to say, i love it.
Bill And Sue probably does the least for me while Beaches In Mind has surprisingly grown on me the most. Truth be told, I'm not as in love with Pacific Coast Highway as others seem to be. Still a lovely little song though.
Am i the only one who hears some Ben Folds elements in Strange World and parts of From There To Back Again?
I can safely say i'd put this album in my top 15 favourite BB's albums list.

Hey. Welcome to the board. You're only a year into your Beach Boys education...i envy you. It's amazing, i've been a die hard fan now for 11 years and i'm STILL learning new things/hearing rare old tunes from them to this day.

Simply put, they mean way more to me than i thought any musical act ever could.

Yeah, i wrote that wrong. Oh, i'll be buying the new album!
44  Smiley Smile Stuff / 1990's Beach Boys Albums / Re: Summer In Paradise on: May 20, 2012, 05:59:13 AM
I just listened to SIP for the very first time lastnight. I had avoided it for years but figured it was finally time to give it a chance. Although it is the worst BB's album i've ever heard, i wouldn't say it's the absolute worst album of all time. I surprisingly found myself listening to Lahaina Aloha a few times. My Beach Boys cd collection ends with BB's 85...and it will remain that way.
45  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: 50th Anniversary Tour Dates (as they roll out) (*UPDATED, Feb 15th*) on: May 16, 2012, 03:57:30 PM
Just got two tickets to the Toronto show! Pretty lousy seats, but i don't mind at all. I'm going to see the boys with my girl!! Anyone else here going to the T.O show?
46  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: New album info (as it rolls out...) on: May 15, 2012, 08:12:29 AM
Well, having heard only TWGMTR and SV i can safely say that I am pumped for this album! June 5th can't come soon enough.

Also, several songs from Silverchair's last two albums. Call the lynch mob, but if someone put a gun to my head and told me to name a contemporary version of Brian Wilson, I'd say Daniel Johns without having to think about it.

Same here. I'm pretty bummed that they broke up......but i'm guessing they'll get back together sooner than later. Young Modern is probably my favourite album of theirs. I played that album, along with some YM b-sides for my girlfriend without telling her who it was. She couldn't believe it when i told her. I'm waiting patiently for some new Daniel Johns material.
48  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Re: Has there ever been a song that made you cry? :') on: May 10, 2012, 09:59:07 AM
Certain Sigur Ros songs. I don't know what it is, it just hits me in an emotional way that no other music does. It's obviously not the lyrics. Ha.
49  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: AP segment with new interviews & a snippet of a NEW SONG off the new album!!!! on: April 30, 2012, 08:07:04 PM
I don't know why, but i have a feeling i'm going to kind of dig this tune. I'm just glad it's not the opening or closing track on the album.

Anyone here a fan of Blind Melon's Soup album? I'm not a huge fan of their self titled debut, but Soup blows me away every time. Out of all the gifted young artists who died way too early, Shannon Hoon's death is the biggest dissapointment to me. I can only imagine how great their third album would have been.
