126  Smiley Smile Stuff / Concert Reviews / Going to see Brian (For the first time!)/autograph session!! on: October 03, 2008, 07:41:42 PM
I was eating lunch with my girlfriend today when out of nowhere she passes me two tickets for the Brian show on Nov 12 in Ann Arbor Michigan. I almost choked on my burger.
This will be my fist time seeing Mr. Wilson live and i am beyond excited.
Anyone else planning on going to this show?
127  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Official TLOS Album Reviews on: September 02, 2008, 04:18:06 PM
I avoided listening to any of TLOS prior to today. I don't know how I did it:) Well i just listened to the album for the second time and i must say that i highly (HIGHLY) enjoy it. How beautiful is Midnight's Another Day? I can already claim that, besides BWPS, this is my favourite solo Brian album.
128  Smiley Smile Stuff / Polls / Re: Favourite version of Surf's Up? on: September 01, 2008, 06:55:45 AM
I'll always prefer the '71 version. Although I do like the first movement on BWPS, I just don't enjoy the strings on movement 2 or Brian's vocals. (I may be in the minority there, i know).

"No need for quotes: it's not ironic. They're really critics. You not agreeing with them doesn't change their job title."

Thanks for the advice, Luther. I'll remember that next time when I'm actually trying to be "ironic".

As long as I like what I'm hearing, i could care less what the "critics" are saying.

Silverchair! I know not too many North American's listen to them anymore, but they continue to drastically change their sound which each new release. It's pretty exciting.
132  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Did Brian really say that? on: July 20, 2008, 05:12:18 PM
When interviewed on the Larry King show back in 2004, Larry basically asked Brian if he was ever unfaithful to Marylin, when it came to the temptation of groupies on the road during the Beach Boys heyday. Brian replied, "No, i loved her". He sounded and looked very sincere with his statement.
From everything i've read and seen on Marylin, i feel that she is a genuine woman who truly cared about Brian's happiness.
Unlike a lot of people around Brian, i don't think she cared at all that he was Brian Wilson - the musical genius/big money maker. That's just the vibe i get from her.

I really like that Love & Mercy artwork. Also, that Do It Again cover is pretty nice. Brian just always looks so damn cool in sunglasses.

My girlfriend got quite the kick out of the Love Surrounds Me postcard on the LA Light insert. (After it took her a couple of seconds).

NO, i WANT to get you started. Ha.
136  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / SMiLE Song Titles on: July 15, 2008, 02:13:01 PM
Here's a few questions that Ive always wondered about.

1) Who came up with the original SMiLE song titles? Brian or Van Dyke?
2) Is there a particular reason why Cabin Essence is listed as "Cabinessence" on the 20/20 album? Yet on the Friends-20/20 twofer, Brian calls is Cabin Essence.
3) Why were Do You Like Worms, I Love To Say Da Da, Holidays and Look Changed for BWPS? Were "Worms" and "Da Da" considered to be "too weird" by Brian's management?

137  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Brian's New Album Cover on: July 14, 2008, 05:59:33 AM
I like it. It's not what i was expecting. I've chosen not to listen to any of TLOS material as of yet. (Don't know how i did it:). I can't wait to get it all at once on Sept 2.
138  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Screenplay about Dennis? on: July 12, 2008, 06:41:29 AM
I was reading an article on Dennis recently in a Canadian Newspaper (The Globe and Mail), and towards the end of the article the author states that Gregg Jakobson (Wilson's former friend and POB co-producer) is currently working on a screenplay about Dennis.

"Meanwhile, Jakobson is working on a screenplay about his departed buddy that he says has attracted the interest of Leonardo DiCaprio and those other Wilson brothers, Luke and Owen."

This is news to me. Has anyone else heard anything about this?
139  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Re: Any Sigur Ros Fans? on: July 11, 2008, 05:46:33 AM
Jonas, you should definitely get your hands on Agaetis Byrjun.  I'd almost compare it to Takk, only because it's not as much of a depressing listen as ( ) is.  Von is the only one that i don't have. I've listened to some of it and it just didn't do it for me. Agaetis Byrjun was a HUGE step forward. Also, their new album is quite good aswell. If you're a fan of their last 2 albums, i'm positive you won't be disappointed seeking out their other works.

Really, i'm the only fan?.......i feel so alone. Ha.
141  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Lowest point in the BB career? on: July 09, 2008, 08:22:07 PM
Brian being unable to complete SMiLE.
142  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Any Sigur Ros Fans? on: July 08, 2008, 08:15:24 PM
I know that this is a band that people either love or really hate.  I for one, love these guys. They're the only band i've ever cried to while listening to their music.  Their ( ) album just strikes a very powerful chord in me. I've NEVER reacted that way to music before.  I just picked up their new album today (i won't even begin to type out the name of the album. ha), it's a gorgeous piece of work. Sigur Ros is my ultimate "escape" band.
Any other fans out there?
143  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / The Sandbox / Re: Where are you from? on: July 07, 2008, 05:52:02 AM
I've Lived in Southern Ontario, Canada my whole life. Sadly, the only person i've met who was more than just a casual BB fan was a guy who worked at a record shop downtown. We had a conversation about Pet Sounds and other 60's music. I wish i had hardcore BB fans to hangout with. Ha.
144  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Fire causes Fire on: June 30, 2008, 12:44:20 PM
VDP: "It was like, 'this is so much fun'. & i was watching the guy in crisis, & i knew that if this was a joke it was at someone's expense, & who's expense was it, but Brian's."

This segment is played right after Brian describes his paranoia about the building burning down.

145  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Fire causes Fire on: June 30, 2008, 12:18:14 PM
OK, i don't know if anyone will have the answers for these, but i'll try anyways. I've always wondered what the real deal was with the whole 'building burning to the ground' during the Fire sessions.
-Was it a warehouse building, as Brian says?
-Where exactly was it located?
-WHAT caused the fire?
-Did it actually burn completely to the ground?
-Did the fire occur during the same time of day as the Fire sessions?
-Did Brian and his gang actually see it, or did they just hear about it?

Also, and i'm probably wrong here, but does Van Dyke insinuate in Beautiful Dreamer that the whole thing might have been a joke, but at Brian's expense? That line always confuses me.
146  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Bad news re POB/Sony Germany on: June 22, 2008, 12:35:10 PM
I live in a relatively big Canadian city, and yet NO one is carrying POB! But apparently TONS of people are asking the stores about the release date. That made me really happy to hear.

Cool, thanks for the advice.
148  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Re: The Zombies - Odessey and Oracle on: June 19, 2008, 05:28:09 PM
OK, so i finally got this album today....and it's brilliant! I went with the German import with the 16 bonus tracks. I can't believe i went this long without owning this album. The only song that doesn't completely do it for me is "i want her she wants me", but it's still a good tune.

Woah, that's a GREAT find. Thanks.
150  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / The Zombies - Odessey and Oracle on: June 14, 2008, 08:48:33 PM
So am i really thinking about buying this album soon.  I've heard so much praise for it that i couldn't help but listen to some tunes on youtube. I was pretty blown away. Really beautiful melodies. I had such a reaction to the music that i would almost compare it to the first time i heard Pet Sounds. (almost).  How is this album not as well known as Sgt Pepper and Pet Sounds? Any fans of this masterpiece out there?
