176  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / SMiLE (Late '67) & SMiLE (1972) on: April 17, 2008, 05:06:33 PM
I've read that Capitol was putting out memo's of a 10 song SMiLE release in late '67 that would feature the original SMiLE cover and booklet.  I've also heard about a proposed 1972 version that Stephen Desper and Carl Wilson attempted to assemble. I know that Brian worked on a one-minute and 46 second cut of 'Been way too long' for the 10 song SMiLE and that Carl mentioned  'I love to say da da' would incorporate 'cool cool water' on the 1972 version.  I think i also heard that both Bruce and Mike were publicly proclaiming that these releases were imminent. Other than that, i'm pretty hazy on the whole subject. If anyone has any more info, i'd really appreciate it.

Nice little quirky song. i'm pretty excited for their new cd. i grew up on the Blue album and Pinkerton, but i still love their later albums. i guess that makes me an oddity. also, is it true that this album is going to be their "red" album?
178  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Brian's thoughts on So Tough & Holland on: April 14, 2008, 05:06:20 PM
I'm aware of brian's feelings towards several other beach boys albums, but i haven't really heard much about what he thinks about these two (in my opinion) great albums. i know that he was barely involved in the recording process, but he must have made comments about what was finally released.

Here's a band that i believe is drastically underappreciated in north america. Sure, they broke big in '95 with 'frogstomp', and 1997's 'freakshow' was a success, but their last three efforts have gone largely unnoticed in north america. i've talked to people who admitted that they thought the band broke up years ago. this is unfortunate because i think 'diorama' and 'young modern' are among the best albums of the decade. to my ears, daniel johns is one of the better songwriters of this generation. am i alone here?
180  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / the sandbox on: April 10, 2008, 03:43:40 PM
I've read and heard so much about this inspirational sandbox in brian's living room circa the SMiLE era, yet i haven't seen one picture of the thing.  Is there a picture out there that i've simply overlooked?

thanks Bicyclerider. That answers my confusing question.
182  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / with me tonight on: March 21, 2008, 09:02:57 PM
Was this song ever recorded in a different form during the SMiLE sessions? I think it was mentioned in the Hawthorne double cd that with me tonight was first attempted during the SMiLE era. Anyone have more info?

I"m wondering if any of you have put this song on your personal smile mixes? i'm referring to the late 1967 version that was originally slated to be on the wild honey album, not the longer Sunflower version.  I know that it's connected to "love to say da da", but i've never put it on any smile mix because it wasn't recorded during the smile sessions.  I just love this piece of music.

i apologize for confusing everyone (including myself at this point). i think i've also heard this piece of music titled as "heroes and villains 'gong' intro".
as far as "bag of tricks", i'm familiar with the title, but i don't believe i've actually ever heard it.

I'm refering to "Heroes and Villains (intro)" from the good vibrations box set.
186  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Alternate version of Mrs. O'Leary's Cow? on: March 21, 2008, 03:11:13 PM
I have an untitled 30 sec fragment on one of my SMiLE mixes, which to me, sounds like a slightly drugged out version of mrs. o'leary's cow. (NOT Fire). Does anyone know if this is an actual early version of the song, or simply a knock off by another act?  Thanks in advance.

I don't know why, but i find myself really loving brian's voice circa '76, '77. There's something so charming about his voice in "going to the chapel" , "solar system" and "let's put our hearts together".  Am i alone on this?

I just recently received the Hawthorne, CA double album and was blown away by the vocal only version of Kiss me, baby.  Beautiful stuff.
