why do new folk start new topics when things are already being discussed? check what's being said already! f***!
Looks like the posts were made 30 seconds apart. Can’t blame someone for not checking other posts while they’re in the middle of making their own.

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / “Pisces Brothers” makes soundtrack appearance

As I’m sure many are aware, Mike released “Pisces Brothers” for streaming a couple years ago. I saw on YouTube that it’s now on the soundtrack album for a documentary called Rooted In Peace. The soundtrack looks like it’s available on all of the usual digital vendors, and since I have a problem I actually sought out a CD copy from the documentary website. Mike apparently is interviewed in the movie too. Anyways, just spreading the word.

Ouch, that was rough. 95% pre-recorded, I would say. “Do It Again” was the new single recording and “Surfin’ USA” was the same recording Mike released last year on that PBS set (with maybe a live ending). I guess I’m not familiar enough with the technical considerations for putting on a show, but wasn’t the slip-up with Stamos not getting the microphone to work during his transition to the next act basically an admission they didn’t run live audio?

Not to add any confusion to the thread, but here is the version of “Do It Again” that was released last year on the CD set you could only get through PBS: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0rgCY0LznVwSeems to have many elements in common with the version released today, but… a lot better, in my opinion. The fact that it had Brian Wilson, Alan Jardine, and David Marks makes it a million times better than having John Stamos and Mark Somebody. Looks like I did add some confusion. This is Mike solo and is different from the reunion recording.

Was it an upload related to the record company or a leak?
Did anybody make a copy?
It was posted by the official Beach Boys YT channel. I suspect they accidentally posted it earlier than they wanted to. These kinds of early streaming releases are often tied to articles on the web “premiering” the songs. Maybe we’ll get it back soon. If not, it’s really not too long before we have everything on CD anyways.

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Was Mike’s album “First Loveť” re-compiled in 1981 for potential release?

Very bland idea for a topic, but I’m bored so why not. So I was searching Mike on the copyright.gov website and found a copyright record from 1978 for his unreleased First Love album. I also found a copyright record from 1981 for a “collection of songs by Mike Love” which lists the same tracks as First Love, but leaves out “First Love” and “Sumahama.” Both the 1978 and 1981 copyright records list an alternative name of The Right Kind of Love for the project. Pure speculation, but after re-recording “First Love” and “Sumahama” (with Celebration and The Beach Boys respectively), maybe Mike was shopping around the leftover tracks from the First Love sessions in 1981. If anyone has any information please chime in. I might be the only one who finds this interesting though.

Well jimmy crack corn, he's putting out an oldies album after all. What, no Proud Mary? Seriously though, one wonders who will buy this...most of the cult already owns this stuff..... MRMikeisthegreatest [your user name makes me laugh!], I think fans who want Run James Run and a concise compilation of Mr. Brian's songs will buy this! Worth noting that the word on the Pet Sounds forum last year was that this compilation was going to include a new Wilson/Asher song. Looks like that didn’t work out?
In my experience some of the members there who claim to know things do not know much at all! I don’t disagree, although the poster (bgas) did successfully ‘call’ that this compilation was coming out (and through Rhino).
