I just noticed a couple of odd mistakes in the book. There is a photo on page 121 that he dates as 1978. But Brian and Carl look more like this is the late 80s or early 90s??? Later, Rocky claims Brian wrote 'Its Like Heaven' in 1978 after Brian had moved into his own house. Apparently, Brian asked him to write lyrics. Rocky said, 'What's the matter Brian? Are you running out of lyrics?' Which turned into 'What's the matter with you, babe?' What's the matter with you?' The problem is, that lyric was in the 1972 version with American Spring. So either Rocky is confused on the timeline (but this being in Brian's new house seems unlikely to forget), or Rocky had never heard the song and Brian gave him credit for saying something similar to what had already been written, or Rocky is making this up! But he does get credit for the song, so there is something to this.
“It’s Like Heaven” has appeared as a bonus track on reissues of the 1972 album but it was recorded in the late seventies, no?

The Beatles would have reunited to fill in the nostalgia gap left in the space-time continuum and gone on to be the butt of many jokes after their 16th through 23rd albums bombed due to the poor musicianship and mediocre songwriting. Brian would have died of a massive coronary infarction in 1976, weighing in at a portly 463 lbs, though his clone would go on to sell many thousands of concert tickets over 2 decades later.. Dennis would have cleaned up his act and gone on to win several Academy Awards as both actor and producer. Carl would have renounced his conscientious objector status and joined the Marines, serving as a general during Desert Storm and the first Iraq War. Mike Love would have opened a chain of gas stations after his 3rd consecutive solo album failed to chart and he was left with massive debt to his record label. Al Jardine opened a chain of steakhouses all up and down along the California coast but is currently in prison after it turned out the steaks were actually harvested off hitchhiking transients. Bruce Johnston moved to Iceland and funded a fleet of whaling ships which is currently the world leader in "sustainable and renewable" fuel oil; he met his end in 1992 after a mutiny on one of his ships lead to him being harpooned in the throat. Andrew G Doe opened a successful accounting firm where he met his wife and in his spare time enjoyed spending time with his 3 sons and researching the history of the multi-platinum recording artist known as Toto.

Say what you will about Mike’s Radio Shack dealings, but they did give the Beach Boys the excuse to head into the studio in early ’80s and cut “California Dreamin’,” laying the foundation for their 1986 version which didn’t do too bad as a single. In all, the Radio Shack deal lead to a net gain for the BBs legacy by eventually resulting in that recording IMO.

I don’t know if anyone ever pointed this out, but the three tracks in this “Golden Medley” (“Wouldn’t It Be Nice,” “I Get Around,” “Surfin USA”) appear to be the same recordings that eventually ended up on the Unleash The Love bonus disc and the Beach Music Classics PBS set (in unedited form). Well, “Surfin’ USA” seems to be a pretty different mix but I think it’s the same recording. Just pieced this together today… sorry to bump this ancient thread.

On the copies I have (Amazon CD-R, Japanese CD) Al says “BP” instead of “Texaco.” Unless I’m getting all mixed up...
On my Amazon CD-R , and Itunes Album (I burned to CD-R), Al says "BP instead of Texaco. On my Japanese (Yamaha) CD and Robo Records CD Al says Texaco instead of BP Yeah, I think I was wrong about the Japanese CD. Whoops...
