Forgive me if this was previously discussed, but are people seeing this in stores? Wasn’t in my local Target. Saw it sorted in the Beach Boys section at FYE, but it wasn’t featured in the new releases display or anything.

It’s weird to be carrying on with my day and then realizing “Oh yeah, there’s a new Beach Boys album out tomorrow.” Not really excited or actively thinking about this release, although I hope it’s successful and look forward to giving it some spins.

Email from The Beach Boys’ website says “Good Vibrations” will be the next single from this album and will be available for downloading/streaming tomorrow.

“Runaway Dancer” in the first half-hour  LOL

If I had to guess, the orchestral release this summer would reduce the likelihood of any archival 1968 releases before the end of the year.
181  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Carnie Wilson on Osbournes podcast on: May 08, 2018, 03:56:16 PM
Transcribing a very bizarre quote from Carnie during this interview:

Sgt. Pepper’s came out and then dad said, ‘I need to beat this record.’ Those were his words. So he wrote Pet Sounds and that’s where ‘Good Vibrations,’ ‘God Only Knows’ came in, ‘Wouldn’t It Be Nice’ and ‘Don’t Worry Baby.’ And a really cute story is my dad would come home from the recording sessions of Pet Sounds and he would say to my mom, ‘I’m scared I’m not going to do as good as Sgt. Pepper. Mar, I don’t think I can do this as good.’ And she would say ‘Don’t worry baby, everything will be alright. Don’t worry baby.’ And then he wrote ‘Don’t Worry Baby.’”

Huh Huh Huh Inaccurate in several ways to say the least.

Isn’t that Dennis/Manson photo super fake? Looks like some real high quality reading Roll Eyes

Picked up the vinyl edition of UTL which came out a while after the CD. The sticker is different from the CD edition. I wonder if Mike got in trouble for using the Beach Boys logo?

Also noticing that the sticker now says *a* lyricist.

186  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Mike Love's Celebration band & album(s) on: April 02, 2018, 09:19:30 AM
There's some question as to whether Disco Celebration was actually released, but that's much rarer then Celebration. It's also considerably worse than any LP you've ever heard.

Ahh you're all full of bunk. Of course it was released. I've got it. Took seemingly forever to find!  It was on a small label, nobody wanted it and most of them  that didn't get recycled are sitting in a warehouse somewhere( I think in Paraguay with the Honeys Box Set )  waiting for the REAL Disco resurgence.

Not arguing it was pressed up and shrinkwrapped, but when I spoke with Ron last century he told me it never got past that stage and that all the albums were bought by a credit card company to give away as a freebie. Apparently they never did.

Fascinating twist I just learned today: Apparently Disco Celebration was licensed for distribution in Mexico: https://www.discogs.com/Celebration-Disco-Celebration/release/11800744.

Also, 1960s Records might be the most generic label name possible.

Wow, didn’t notice that was the label name  LOL
188  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: 2018 Record Store Day - The Beach Boys on: March 02, 2018, 05:51:32 AM
So this is the Beach Boys release:

2018/04/21   Beach Boys   2018RSD - In Paris With Andy Williams   Rock/Pop   5060331751274   1960'S RECORDS   7"   REP014

I would not imagine this is an authorized release by The Beach Boys. According to https://www.gs1us.org/tools/gs1-company-database-gepir, the barcode from this release is registered to a company out of London called TV Music. Would almost definitely be a Universal barcode if it was official. Happy to be proven wrong though.

A quote from Andrew Sandoval during his appearance on The Best Show (around the 1:10:00 mark): “I’ve got a friend who works for Brian Wilson and he said ‘Hey Brian. I’m going to see the Monkees tonight. My friend Andrew got me some tickets. Do you want to go?’ And he said ‘No. But could you buy me a hot dog?’”

Based on pictures I saw on Facebook, looks like the merch stand has a new digipak version of the Postcards CD. Did anyone buy one/can comment on it? I’m assuming there’s nothing new contest-wise, unless Al prepped yet another mix of “Waves Of Love.”

The 2012 reissue came in a digipak. The recent pics could be that same version.

Ah yes, very likely. My mistake.

Forgive me if this has already been noted, but Newbury Comics has been selling signed UTL CDs for those interested: https://www.newburycomics.com/collections/autographed-cds/products/mike_love-unleash_the_love_2_cd_with_autographed_booklet?variant=47758590540

Michael Lloyd posted to Facebook a nice video of “Little Saint Nick” from the Hallmark Home & Family shoot: https://www.facebook.com/michael.lloyd.756/videos/10156612065219298/

He said it was shot at the Universal Studios lot in his post I linked earlier. A correction to my post earlier—looks like it was actually shot on the 8th. Facebook is displaying Lloyd’s post as on December 9th in Eastern Standard Time though.

If this counts, on 12/9/17 the boys apparently shot their segment for the Hallmark Channel’s Home & Family show (aired 12/11): https://www.facebook.com/michael.lloyd.756/posts/10156612062709298

I would hope there will be a different cover design scheme for 1968.

Can anyone comment on the version of “Don’t Worry Baby” featuring Wilson Phillips that was apparently an iTunes exclusive bonus track on GIOMH? Never got to hear it.

Here’s the announcement from aljardine.com:

Al Jardine's new single "Sunshine to Snowflakes," is a 60's flavored rockin’ tune that tells a unique Christmas story. Al is joined by his son, Matt, on gorgeous vocal harmonies and the song, penned by songwriter Deborah Arman Lent, was produced by Michael Lent, longtime guitarist for Barry Manilow. Come along for the ride as Al Jardine takes you on a West Coast to East Coast Christmas journey…sunshine to snowflakes!

I’m fascinated by the organ riff that leads into the recording of the “Gettin’ Hungry” track. Thankful we get to hear little things like this.
