This may not be one of my best ideas, but during my drive from Indiana to New Jersey (I'm the passenger), I decided to go through Mr. Badman's BB Journal book (which is a favorite of mine but I've heard on many accounts that his dates are mixed up or song titles are different or didn't site sources like he should have.....so anyways, I wanted to start at the beginning (a very good place to start) and start ripping apart his stories and look at unreleased tracks to question to further investigate. So I may just add these questions on this thread  (and just mention where my "sources: are from) like i did with Help me Rhonda vs. the Rip Chords or maybe start my own thread. Anyone else wanna add their torch to the fire? Nothing against him, I just like to get the facts straight.

This is for anyone who's been to any of the shows on the Reunion Tour:

1) has the of the band (including any BB) came out after the show to meet/autograph?

2) not to promote b00tlegs, but do most shows have folks out in the parking lot selling merch (like shirts they made? or "cd"s they made?) I read on one of the reviews that there was a guy in the parking lot selling a Brother Records logo shirt...just wondering if that's the case at all or any other shows....thanks!

Only thing I know is that there are already bootlegs of several reunion shows floating around. Don't know if they're being sold in parkin' lots, though. Guess that could vary from location to location.

would anyone have minded if they sped up brian's vocal on TSS "Surf's Up" just a smidge so it would sync up with the backing track?

Mike insisted on the "Rights." He wanted to make sure people knew the BBs were good Right-Leaning and Right-Thinking kids who were just singing this Commie stuff because it was selling at the moment. (This was also to assure that youthful conservative Jan Berry that they weren't leading Dean astray.)

So when Murry went to Capitol, I'm assuming he took the Surfin' demo.... but what else? I know Brian and Gary Usher worked on Lonely Sea. Plus I know they recorded: Luau, Lavender, Judy, Karate, What is a Young Girl Made of, an early demo of Surfer Girl and Their Hearts were Full of Spring....did he take these too? Did Capitol just buy Surfin'? and the rest were Hite/Dorinda Morgan owned? I was wondering about that recently. While I'm talking about that era, I wish there was a demo by Brian ad Gary for Number One (Visions).

No - he took the tape that comprised the tracks recorded at the April 19th 1962 Western session: "Surfin' Safari/409/Lonely Sea/Their Hearts Were Full Of Spring".

As for the Usher/Wilson demos of three days previously, they're not that hard to find. Allegedly.

Quick question - Is there an 'official' or at least universally agreed upon tracklist for Sweet Insanity in its entirety? If not, what is your personal Sweet Insanity tracklist? I don't know what order to put the tracks in on my iTunes.

Also, does anyone have any higher res versions of the cover artwork available?

Official tracklisting for Sweet Insanity was:

Concert Tonite [intro only] - Someone To Love - Water Builds Up - Don't Let Her Know She's An Angel - Do You Have Any Regrets ? - Brian - Hotter - Spirit Of Rock And Roll - Rainbow Eyes - Love Ya - Make A Wish - Smart Girls - Country Feelin's

As for the cover art, there never was any: anything you see is the product of a bootlegger.

Thanks for the fast response, AGD! Looks like I almost had the tracklist right besides 1 or 2 things. Interesting that bootleggers made all of the album art that's out there.

Wasn't 'Judy' on the tape as well? On your site it says:
Quote
Although "Judy" is listed on the tape box for this session, it is the February 8th recording.
This was the tape that landed the initial Capitol contract, produced by Murry.

Having just bought Postcard from California (autograph included)....I have a few questions about it. But first off, I think it's a great companion piece with the new reunion album. I think Don't Fight the Sea & Waves of Love shoulda been included on the new album. I really enjoy tracks 2-7 as a concept. How much work did Al do on Don't Fight the Sea? What was recorded in 78 and what was re-recorded? Are there two different Brian voices singing on this?

The following questions are from an investigation I made on Keith Badman's book...investing wrongs from rights and just general items I've pondered about:

-First off, I read that on 4-28-70, Murry went on the tour...or maybe just a show? Why'd he go? I've never heard this discussed before. What'd he think of the current setlist? Let alone about the guy's drug habits. Did he join along for a drink? I just can't imagine it.

Next- when did Brian produce Italia? I know it came out in 67 on Murry's album...did Al play on it? I know it was his first song he wrote (I believe).

-My next question goes back to Gary Usher workings....was One Way Road to Love, Visions/Number One, Beginning of the End, and My Only Alibi/Human written for the Beach Boys? or other Pet Projects?

-Did Moon Dawg or Punchline ever get played in concert? If so, who did the howling for MD & who did the laughter for Punchline? I know the organ part of Punchline went into Surfin' USA but was it ever proposed for an album?

-Were the following songs considered for the first album?: Bakers Man, Land Ahoy, & Cindy Oh Cindy?

-I know of two different versions of Surfer Moon (Surfer Girl Album & Bob and Bobby)...but wasn't there one performed by a lady called The Summer Moon? Is it a different track than the BB version?

-Was there a cover for the 45 of Kenny and the Cadets?

-Are there any recordings of Runaway and Wild City performed live in 1963? What is Wild City? a cover or something written and forgotten about?

-Is Shut Down Vol. 1 on vinyl considered a rarity if I ever find it?

-Was Karate/BB Stomp ever played live?

that's it for now...but I will continue to rant/rave/question later when I get time...and responses would be great...I love discussing this stuff.

Could there ever be a BW: Pet Projects Vol. 2? I got to thinkin about it...and with the material I've seen in research & more Honeys/American Spring material/outtakes...I think a whole disc could be put together, here's what side projects I found (for now) to put on Pet Projects Vol. 2:

Stella By Starlight (vocals or just orchestra)
How Deep is the Ocean? (same as first)
Baby What you Want me to do? (Bob and Bobby)
Time to Get Alone (Redwood)
I'll Keep Lovin you (Ron Wilson)
As Tears Go By (Ron Wilson)
If I knew (CW with Stephen K.)...same time Leaves was produced
Magic Hands (same)..."      "

"Stranger things have happen" is always my outlook these music projects...like Al havin a solo album released...or a record label picking up the right to sell the Many Moods of Murry Wilson...Brian/Stephen's poetry album being released...Bambu and other DW goodies being released.....all miracles in my opinion.

I had a couple of more random little questions that have been bugging me:

1. I know there are fan-mixes of Today! and SMiLE in stereo floating around in places, but are there any other albums out there (besides what's on the UM sets) that have been re-created or remixed/remastered/touched up to sound better than they already do (in stereo, etc.)? If that makes sense? I heard about that Maximus Smiley Smile stereo mix, also something about a 15 Big Ones remix? Stuff like that is what I'm curious about. I'm new to that area of the band's music/recordings. Not to get this confused with asking for any links. I just want to know what's out there that exists.

2. What albums are already available in stereo? I want to say Love You is already in stereo. After a certain point, weren't the albums strictly released in stereo and not in mono anymore?

Also, what about the two-fers? Stereo albums on those?

Edit: To put it all of these questions more simply- I'm trying to find the 'best' sonic/sound quality of every song on every album, if not the best versions/quality of albums in full, to date. With so many versions of BB material put out over the years, it's hard to know whether or not my copies are the best ones out there (as I would want them to be lol).
