Just got back from picking up the 2-CD version at my local store.
They had 5 for $27.99 each.

Box tomorrow!

Why on earth would you put Walmart in the same category as Target and Best Buy???
Not meaning to answer for T.R.B.B.......

But basically, insofar as music, Walmart, Best Buy and Target all suck equally.  When is the last time you found anything new release at any of these "outlets"?

Even the word "outlet" sounds scary!

I DEFY anyone on this board to find and buy a 5 CD set at any of these joints.  They simply don't stock music that that I am interested in.

Let me interrupt the well-deserved big-box store bashing with a little anecdote of my own...

Dropped in today at my local independent music retailer (decent-sized store that participates in Record Store Day).  Figured I might score the 2CD a day early.  Hipster owner (manager?) informed me that he not only didn't have it but hadn't ordered it for tomorrow, and, in fact, was unaware it was even being released.  Tried to sell me a used copy of BWPS.   Thanks, buddy.  LOL

I like different packaging.. there are cool mini-LP jackets..  different booklet, button.. H&V Pt 1 and 2 that doesn't need to be needledroped, etc. etc..

I know some folks buying the box, 2-disc, 1-disc, and LP..    I at least draw the line somewhere.

I'd be careful about doing that. Nothing like leaving yourself open to legal action.

Same thoughts.

But it has to be said that it's quite an unusual thing, perhaps an industry-first?

LOL I wouldn't be surprised if this was one giant sting operation to round up anything 'SMiLE' that isn't official.

Surfs up 67' done in a lower key and complete with that weird wild honey piano.

Is it in a lower key or a lower octave? Sounds like the same key to me.

seems to me to be about a halfstep lower, until "Surf's Up, mmhmmm mhmm" when it modulates up a half step, back to the key of the original demo.

Alright from what I understand here is the issue with the box set version at least.  Amazon has run out of copies from their distributor but has requested more copies and the request has been granted.  The box sets are currently being packed for shipment and expected to ship tomorrow with delivery time still expected for Tuesday (I would guess assuming like most of us you have had this thing on pre-order since August).  This is coming directly from the gentleman I spoke with minutes ago at Amazon so hopefully we all start seeing updates on our shipping status soon.

I'm getting the same story from Amazon.
My status finally changed from Not Yet Shipped at 7:15am to Shipping Soon at 9:30am. Good to see and I'm feeling mighty relieved at the moment. Smiley
Well, here we are at 8:30pm and still no shipment confirmation. Worry is beginning to set in. It still says tomorrow for delivery, though.

If it's not on my doorstep tomorrow they'd better take off the $8 I paid for shipping.

I would guess the change in key isn't so much to do with the piano and more to do with Brian later calling the song a "piece of sh*t" and then saying he wasn't the right vocalist for the song.

Sad

Now, i wouldn't necessarily say that.  I'd liken it to something along the lines of the SS version of Wind Chimes, which ended up a half step lower than the original version. It's just a bit of a different vibe....in this case, a more "real" performance (and by real, i mean live) recorded all at once, as apposed to tracking the piano, and then double tracking the vocals like in the '66 demo.

Also, if he wanted to do that modulation at the end like that, maybe he'd rather it end in the original key, so he decided to modulate the first part of the song down, instead of the last part up.

Guess the comparison to Smiley "Wind Chimes" etc. is true enough.
