I just got home from a nice weekend trip with the wife and to my big disappointment I had to work my way through 6 full pages of replies on this topic. What a waste of time and how sad to see that for some it's too difficult to at least keep the tone civil. And all that on a topic that is supposed to make us "SMiLE". I really don't get it. ...

I can't and won't pick out anyone specific here. I'll simply keep it with this: we're all fans here, we all have an opinion on this SMiLE box, our opinions sometimes differ drastically, it's clear that some among us really don't like each other, which is all OK. But please, PLEASE, at least try not to make negative/insulting personal remarks towards others (even if you think it's the only effective way). I know there's not a button for it on this board, but do the most sensible thing which is called "IGNORE".

By now this discussion gets to a point that I think (as a moderator) I've let this go too far, and should have said something about it many many posts ago. But I honeslty wouldn't know when would have been a good moment. Closing or removing this topic will not help at all: I'm sure within 24 hours a "SMiLE Box set discussion part 2". And otherwise there's always another topic the bickering will continue.

My compliments to those who've tried to throw in a lighthearted note or to ask for more positivity on the board (and this topic specifically), and with that co-moderating with us.

Hmmm, sorry but on this board there are discussions about Smile (not official except for a few songs)(!!), Lei'd in Hawaii, Out in the country, personal mixes of H&V, Wilson tapes, you name it...

OK, good job.  You proved me wrong on that very specific point.  Pat on the back for you.

But of course my real  point was that you mods are inexplicably tolerant of things that would never fly on many other boards.  Some of you even participate in the name calling and general board hostility, as if you have no idea what the term "moderator" means.  And when you think things have gone too far, you generally issue a patronizing edit along the lines of "Children, take it to PMs.  You're all being very naughty."  Rather than insulting people and riling people up, why not try to tone things down?

In an effort to get our excitement back up, rather than dfeading the next argumentative post, I'd love to hear guesses on what people think the biggest surprise on the box is going to be?

I'm looking forward to a version of The Elements from the pieces they have, maybe even an air instrumental we haven't heard.

Vocal multitracks are going to be the killer in this box for me. I can definitely see the Truck Drivin' Man vocals be a little bonus, like the H&V boys and girls thing was on Hawthorne CA.

We're all just spinning our wheels waiting for a tracklist, really. I'm sorry for whatever flippant bullshite i've been spouting off at Cohen or Sgt. SMILE or whoever. Just killing time....

I can get nice sounding versions of 8-9 of them from the singles
Smiley Smile, Surfs up etc...

But if they have some lead vocals for those last  few songs and mix
it all up nice and tidy, what a treat.

Isn't a good part of BWPS 2004 based on the Smiley recording of H&V rather than the Smile? I'm asking, not stating definitively, but that was the sense I got.

I know there have been a lot of questions about H&V and the timeline lately so forgive me if I am just asking a question that was recently answered but it's hard to keep track of a lot of things around here these days.
