Whatever happened with that rumored Brian Wilson Rock & Roll album he was supposedly working on??

He recorded it (or most of it) with Scott Bennett. They could never get a deal to release it.
Really? Wow, cool, didn't know that. Hope it eventually pops up somewhere. Just do an EP or something, it would sell okay after the reunion. I guess.

Sounds like it is going to be the adult/child of the 21st century.

And production aside, I’d so much rather hear a 14 year old David Marks shred some guitar on Chug-a-lug than hear a 51 year old Mike Love sing about bangin some chick in a swimming pool.-rab2591

I'm not sure how seriously it was shopped around (if at all), but Brian and Scott did record a lot in the period before and after the creation of TLOS -- 2006-2008, roughly. And those sessions (which included another version of Proud Mary) were considered, for a time at least, as the core of a follow-up "rock album."

I'm sure Scott thought they would do another record, too. TLOS begged for a less arty, more direct follow up. But then the economy collapsed (and TLOS didn't do super well) and Brian got the Disney deal, so the project was left behind.

Sometimes I just wish Brian would go sign on Rough Trade, or Domino, or something. Big independent label who would crap their pants promoting him whilst selling exactly the product he makes. Even if he does sign to them as B-Pain.

If you're gonna do a rock n roll album, then it is best to do it with the band that you recorded your best rock n roll records with... just saying. Smiley

How come Still Cruisin' and Summer In Paradise haven't been reissued as a two-fer just like the others?

I just bought Still Cruisin' last night, actually.

I sort of wish I hadn't. But there are a handful of moments on the album that don't suck entirely. Ah well. I needed Kokomo anyway, might as well get its little brothers, while I was at it.

Does Summer in Paradise have any redeeming qualities that aren't coaster related?

Depends who you talk to. For me it does. The better tracks are: Strange Things Happen, Slow Summer Dancin', Lahaina Aloha and Summer In Paradise. Still Surfin' is OK, as is Hot Fun ...

The only thing I really don't like about Summer in Paradise is the drums.

Depends on what you like from the group. Mike manages some cool hooks, and Al sounds astonishing. The problem is just that Mike and Terry Melcher don't really have much of a melodic sense, so the songs all sort of dissolve into mush.

Yeah, a lot of the lyrics are horrible, and there's an astounding lack of taste, but the real crime is just a lack of solid songs.

While its a crappy album the only song I can't stand on Still Cruisin' is Make It Big. The others fall into the range of lightweight-but-enjoyable to pretty good. FOR ME.

Re Sandy. From the Summer Days... sessions.

Was the song never completed, as the sessions i have suggest? How come Brian abandoned it? Seems like it would've made for a lovely track.

This might be an obvious one, but here goes:

Why wasn't Brian involved with the Summer In Paradise album?

It's possible that he didn't have the verses written yet, and it just got pushed aside in favor of other tunes he was more excited about.

It's interesting that he revisited this in '76. He of course also revisited "Back Home" around this time.

Wonder what else he might've messed with during that time period. Someone tell me there's a '76 version of Worms lying around.

I think it was never completed, until the seventies. No idea why it was abandoned. Agreed it would have been an awesome addition to SDSN.

I always heard it was a mix from 78-79 that Bruce was messing with.

He also revisited In the Back of my Mind...now that would be nice to hear.

I've never understood the Sandy/Sherri she needs me story...It'd never addressed in books or anything else...Same thing with Terri She needs me...only heard rumors.

Can anyone point me to the YouTube clip of Gary Griffin playing the keyboard with the stand collapsed at a Brian solo show.

Have searched the board/you tube and can't find it.
