The new My Bloody Valentine and also Foxygen, who's lead singer sounds like a cross between Jagger, Donovan, Ray Davies and Steve Harley from Cockney Rebel! Fun album, definitely worth checking out:

After following the discussion about The Four Seasons' The Genuine Imitation Life Gazette/ The Zombies Odessey and Oracle on the 'Where is that %^&$@#&* MIC Box Set @#$%^&*(!!!' thread, I've been dipping back into Horslips' 'Happy to Meet...Sorry to Part' which has quite close echoes of both IMO. A lot of it is of its time, but if you like The Zombies mixed with Celtic rock there's a lot that sounds familiar....!

Gotye's Making Mirrors album. Like everyone, I knew his uber-hit "Someone I Used to Know," but I hadn't heard the album until the other day when I finally got around to previewing it. Bought it--really good album.

Couple of Randy Newman's LPs, including Sail Away and Randy Newman Creates Something New Under The Sun.

Great stuff (obviously).

Any fans of Belle & Sebastian?

I've been listening to The Boy With The Arab Strap (album) for a couple of weeks now and it's quite pleasant. Great melodies and production.

One of the two or three best bands of the past 20 years. The production gets a lot better and songwriting gets tighter with Step Into My Office, Baby. God Help the Girl (Stuart Murdoch's project with more or less B&S plus female singers) is also great.

Spectrum - Soul Kiss (Glide Divine)

Lovely stuff, sounds like the Spacemen 3 album it probably was supposed to be.

Finally got my hands on Life Is People, by Bill Fay. Sublime, beautiful.

Also got a ten cd Mingus collection for a fucking steal, with liner notes by his wife that get very irritated by the fact they've put alternate takes on it... you think we've got it bad  LOL

Folks, if you've never sat on a Carolina beach with a beautiful girl listening to music like this, watching the sun go down and the waves come in, you've never lived.

No fucking kidding.

I'm listening to Jesus' Blood Never Failed Me Yet by Gavin Bryars, as I'm a little blue (combination of mild hangover/cold/ennui of day off) so it seems to be hitting the spot.

I spent a lot of time yesterday listening to The Band. The album Jericho is something I had not played for a long time. It has some remarkable tunes on it, and for latter day Band, it is better than many other groups' best albums.

The new Justin Timberlake album, The 20/20 Experience. Odd. No real 'singles', in that the shortest song is just under five minutes long. But it sounds great. Besides the last two tracks, which destroy the flow (last one is all vibe, no song), it's kinda the best you could expect from him having taken 6 years off to become JT, anything but a pop star. It's got a neat 'hey, I'm married and it's the best, I'm in love you guys' vibe to it.

I was listening to the new album by The Virgins, Strike Gently. I sort of dug it. Saw they had a previous one, listened to that and was really turned off. Now I can't even listen to the one I dug. Weird.

R Kelly - In The Kitchen (Remix). It may be a slight attempt to cop the vibe of the Ignition Remix, but sh*t man, it's still alright. Ridiculous. http://youtu.be/sG32jVocvlQ
