I'll bet they'll come out in the US one of these days. Smiley Smile in stereo....well, since that album's so sparse, I don't know if stereo will make a difference, but if they get around to a stereo Wild Honey...yeah!

I'm really hoping that the mono mixes on these releases are similar to the JPN Past Masters releases i.e. flat transfers of the tapes with no EQing or futzing to make them loud or "hot". They should be treated like museum pieces. I'm prepared to be disappointed but whatever the outcome it will be nice to finally have digital versions of Brian's original mono mixes...even if they're only released in Japan.
It's also exciting to see the rest of those mono-only albums released entirely in stereo. I wonder what they did with the songs that are missing elements.

OK, don't know if anybody saw this yet, but if not, here's another find. Unfortunately this one isn't as good:
http://merchdirect.com/thebeachboysarchive
It's basically selling most of the old twofers and a bunch of compilations as downloads and CDs. And not to be Cohen-like, but it doesn't make sense that they'd put this "archive" up with all this stuff if they were gonna be putting out new, remastered versions reasonably soon.
I think the one thing to get out of that is that they have created a special URL: TheBeachBoysArchive. Could be that the items there now are simply placeholders until the new products are rolled out later. Seems like a big coincidence that they would rollout TheBeachBoysArchive site on the same day that news of the Japanese remasters spills onto the web...

So you want the tapes put out unmastered then? All mixes are designed t be mastered. A 'flat transfer[..] of the tapes with no EQing or futzing' is not a remastering, its a flat transfer of the tapes, and who wants that?
Music is mastered because it needs mastering, and mastering means EQ and compression. That's what it is.

I'd ;like to know more about the source of the story. Not doubting it at all but I can't find that image anywhere else on the internet, other than the source page quoted in the original post at the head of this thread.
Search was conducted by TinEye… if anyone's seen it anywhere other than that site, please speak up! (repeats from that site don't count!)

No. But I would like them to be audiophile quality and not sound like they were mastered for earbuds. The 2001 mastering that Linett did is loud and aggressive sounding to me when compared to Hoffmann's mastering or the flat mixes heard on those Past Masters releases. The Beatles got a great remastering in 2009 and the Beach Boys deserve the same. I hope that happens.

I imagine that with some technical trickery they can fly in stuff from other sources where the original multitracks don't exist. Mark did a nice job of Mike's bridge vocal on the stereo
Pet Sounds
that came out in 2001; the two prior stereo releases had Brian's bridge vocal.

Fans of The Who know how expensive it is to get definitive editions of their 60's albums from Japan only.

Japanese EMI Catalogue numbers for the already-flagged up remasters:
TOCP-71371
TOCP-71372
TOCP-71373
TOCP-71374
TOCP-71375
TOCP-71376
TOCP-71377
TOCP-71378
TOCP-71379
TOCP-71380
TOCP-71381
TOCP-71382
All consecutive, which might suggest that other titles won't be slipped out later.
Darn…

All roads lead to Kokomo. Exhaustive research in time travel has conclusively proven that there is no alternate universe WITHOUT Kokomo. It would've happened regardless.

So, "Wild Honey", "Friends" & "20/20" are being permanently expunged from The Beach Boys Capitol back catalogue? Oh well, we've got our existing CD's. There's some fine songs on those 3 albums, and they won't be heard by future fans.

I understand that some music critics see "Wild Honey", "Friends" & "20/20" as signs of The Beach Boys' creative decline(in the aftermath of Smile's collapse, and the negative consumer reaction to "Smiley Smile"), since "Wild Honey", "Friends" & "20/20" saw Brian relinquish his role as (sole)
record producer, and the other guys started writing songs, and then "20/20" had some songs with no Brian Wilson performing participation, BUT, the fact remains that these three albums have many superb songs("Wild Honey", "Darlin","Friends", "Busy Doin' Nothing", "Do It Again", "I Can Hear Music").
Whether we like it or not, the catalogue number sequence for the forthcoming Japan CD series makes it obvious that these 3 albums will not be included in the remastered CD series. This decision is apparently etched in stone. None of our consumer complaints will make any difference. But i would assume that the songs from those albums that were released as singles will remain available through hits compilations. But I do think that Capitol's decision to delete those 3 albums is tampering with history.
This is equivalent to what it would be if Sony Music decided to no longer offer Bob Dylan's "John Wesley Harding", "Nashville Skyline", "Self Portrait" & "New Morning" albums. While none of those albums scaled the creative heights of "Highway 61 Revisited", "Blonde on Blonde", "Blood on The Tracks", or "Desire", the albums are not without merit. They do contain occasional memorable songs.
