My only hang-up is that for some of the albums, aren't faithful stereo mixes somewhat impossible?  Some songs from T! and SD(ASN!!) are missing overdubs/had elements recorded live during mixdown, didn't they?  I think the underwhelming stereo mix of She Knows Me Too Well on the Capitol Years box set is proof of this.  Hopefully they manage to make it all work.

I saw a couple of posts that suggested that missing elements like guitar solos/handclaps etc. should be replaced by people in the BB world today and released alongside the unaltered, historical versions. Short of inventing a time-machine, I can't think of a better way they could make it work.

I am speculating, purely for effect.  Smiley

All we have ever been promised is a hits set, a new boxed set, and (presumably) a live release from the current tour.

If a catalog revamp were planned for the states, I believe we would have had some hint from Capitol about it before now.

Japan is no stranger to exclusive releases, and there is a market for them over there. They've already had the exclusive mini-LP releases. I am unconvinced that such a market exists in the U.S. or Europe.

As for Mark's involvement, it is perfectly possible that EMI Japan paid him for his services.

The simplest way to interpret this set of facts -- announced only in Japan, not announced in the English-speaking world, not even previously suggested in the English-speaking world -- is that these are Japan-only releases.

Wirestone, as per the boxset, all we've been told was that it was "career spanning."  Isn't a catalog revamp career spanning?

Wait.

All the multis exist for Today/SDSN?

Then why the f*** didn't we see stereo DYWD on the singles box? Granted, I didn't buy it anyway, but the fact that it exists...blah.

Also, yeah, stereo WH needed, fave album, blah blah

Concernlng the material that has never been released in stereo before - no way are they going to go to the time and expense of creating stereo versions and release them only in Japan.

Yeah, but only if we assume, as you've done, that the albums would be assembled into the set. Seems a stretch to me.

i think people are basing this on the similarity to the beatles boxsets.  and that those album sleeves are the same format as said beatles boxset.

I kinda feel like this belongs on here. I searched something like "Beach Boys 2012 remasters" on Amazon and this came up in the search:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008F67RH0/ref=dm_sp_alb

I suppose that's the remaster of Pet Sounds they are using for the CD that's coming out. I couldn't find any of the other albums though, and nothing on iTunes. I'm intrigued though. I really do hope they are indeed reissuing all their albums on their own CDs.

Meh, it's easy to think the worst in this scenario but everything about the last 3 months has taught me to expect the unexpected.  We all had our own expectations about this anniversary and I think it's safe to say that all of our expectations were met and in many aspects, surpassed.  We may not be used to all this great fortune which is why it's become second nature to deflect any possible cool ideas as realities but I, for one, am looking at this optimistically:   The Japanese site posted the info early, hoping to drum up some  hype for when the tour drops by their country.  Because of the upcoming Japanese shows, they might even have the first batch of remasters released there first with a worldwide release soon after or perhaps later in the fall.  I expect we will hear from Capitol in the relatively near future.

You may be right. The idea of mono + stereo twofers exclusive to Japan is not a new idea. Sony Music of Japan recently(last month) did exactly that for the first five Byrds albums. The discs are indeed Japan-only limited edition product, and, in The Byrds' case, premium-priced audiophile editions mastered with Blu-Spec technology(I.E. the glass master was etched with a Blue laser for more accurately formed data pits). By the way, I bought 2 of the 5 Byrds titles, found them to be excellent, and have now ordered the other 3 titles(which are now in route from Japan). Each has the original mono album, followed by mono singles tracks(or scheduled, but never released singles in mono), followed by the original stereo album.
But I hope that Capitol relents and releases The Beach Boys discs in the U.S.A. / Because of the amount of albums involved, buying the 1960's Beach Boys catalogue on pricey Japanese discs will be budget-breaking and unfeasable.

OK, don't know if anybody saw this yet, but if not, here's another find. Unfortunately this one isn't as good:

http://merchdirect.com/thebeachboysarchive

It's basically selling most of the old twofers and a bunch of compilations as downloads and CDs. And not to be Cohen-like, but it doesn't make sense that they'd put this "archive" up with all this stuff if they were gonna be putting out new, remastered versions reasonably soon.
