It seems promo copies are out and some amongst us have had a chance to listen. Not me, but Mr Schneider at the Hoffmn board has the following info on the Barnyard/Great Shape vocals:

Flown in from the demo, I'm afraid. Like I said earlier, Linett's SMiLE sounds like a well done fan mix, but from source tapes.

Thought it would be worth starting a thread (well, Manning suggested it) for all the revelations we will hear over the next fewweeks, and save ruining it for those that don't want to know.

Edit: Might aswell post the rest of the guy's 'reveals' here to save hassle searching the hoffman thread:

We skipped most of the H&V & Vibes discs and went for the meat of discs 1, 3 & 4.
I've got all the SOT sets and asst. SMiLE boots and projects. There are definitely some surprises! The Wild Honey Surf's Up is pretty damn fantastic! It's great to hear all the stuff in perfect quality that has only been heard in questionable quality for years- YAMS, Child/Father, etc. Linett added lots to the SMiLE album proper if these aren't original mixes, that is. The album itself is definitely an interesting listen- on par with a 'fan mix' but from tape sources. The vocal highlights track is fascinating.

and ...

The faint vocal singing "You Are My Sunshine" during 'false barnyard' is present.

Can you give us any more info on what you heard please?! For instance, how is the two sided Heroes and Villains structured?!

There was no 45 included in the preview discs, CD's only. I'm curious about this one, too.

Any segues in the 2nd movement on disc 1?

As I recall there was nothing here to tie them together. No cross fades if that's what you mean. Nothing unusual jumped out at me.

I, I bet I know what she’s like, and I can feel how right she’d be for me. It’s weird how she comes in so strong, and I wonder what she’s picking up from me. I hope it’s good, good, good, good vibrations, yeah!!

Well all we know is what one man on the Hoffman says, and he hasn't said much tbh. He said over there that it's probably best he doesn't go nuts with spoilers as to not get his friend with the promo in trouble, which is infuriating but understandable

I don't know. I don't think the guy is passing judgement as much as saying it's more like a fan mix with things like the Harv vocals flown in - that was my reading of it. I guess we knew it was going to be into fan mix territory after hearing the Heroes and Villains and GV mixes, but then arguably anything, other than unadulterated sessions, are fan mixes of a sort.

Here's a notion to consider - wait until you hear it for yourself before passing comment... and exactly how can "well-done" be a negative unless you asked for your steak rare ?

I'm far from passing judgement, I expect it to sound fantastic. I'm only interpreting the remark and asking if I'm correct..

The "fan mix" comment took me off guard. I may have read it wrong, no harm

Top comment, Mr Grumpy, and I'll back you up by pointing out that he says "Like a well-done fan mix but from source tapes".

Well, there are some bloody good fan mixes out there, and none of them from source tapes. This should knock everything for six is my guess.

And yes, having suggested that spoliers have their own thread I shouldn't be here at all but as I'd already read the spoiler that prompted the spoiler thread I thought I'd spoil myself with some spoilers.

Off for a curry now though… please carry on without me.   Grin

Bit of a bummer, but not at all unexpected.  Once we learned that only two tracks were sourced from acetates, you'd have to figure that these particular songs would still be missing leads.
