Amazing! Thanks for sharing. I like the drum sound more on this compared to Carnegie Hall. Punchier.

A complete concert from Hollywood 1973 appeared on Spotify, but the tracks are not clickable. What is this?

The Carnegie Hall concert is the best live BB release. Full stop. What a show.

Hard Time is such a banger. Blondie and Ricky really added a lot of 'oomph' to their sound.

Dutch retailer Bol.com also changed the date to 9 December...

I wonder if it will be on Spotify tomorrow?

Edit: I guess it will be, because it is on iTunes if you are in the Australia/NZ region.

The new "marcella" is incredible

Agreed. My favourite of the whole set. Being able to hear Brian and Jack so clearly is just awesome.
7  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: In Concert Album. How and Why? on: June 11, 2022, 02:44:02 AM
Whatever the reason for this album, I'm glad it exists. It's truly fantastic. It's got everything a die-hard fan would want: some hits, some deep cuts, newer stuff, and an otherwise unreleased (sorta) song. For me, there are three problems with it:

1) No Dennis-composed or Dennis-sung songs.

2) No "God Only Knows." But from what I understand, the band didn't do that song during those tours because instead, after the show was over, LSO's version of GOK was piped in over the PA.

3) There's some noticeable flutter and wow on some of the tracks -- definitely noticeable on "You Still Believe in Me" and "Funky Pretty." I hope that gets fixed at some point.

They played God Only Knows at the Carnegie Hall 1972 show, if I'm not mistaken.

I too really hope we finally get an official release of the BBs playing 'Jumpin Jack Flash'   Cool Cool Cool Cool

I also hope/predict that The Flame's two albums recorded around this time might get included in this boxset, given the involvement from Carl and Desper. It wouldn't even shock me if it's released as "The Beach Boys" like how Dont Worry Bill and Its A New Day eventually were released.

I love this era and I'm so excited for the new box set !!

If you're talking about the live version of "Don't Worry Bill" released as part of a medley with the live "Wonderful" on the Endless Harmony Soundtrack...well, that IS the Beach Boys! Sure, that half of the medley is a Flame song, but a live Beach Boys performance from 1972, including Blondie and Ricky. As for "It's A New Day" - well, it's a Dennis solo track with a Blondie lead. Technically not quite a Beach Boys recording, but not the Flame either.

Yep. Live at Carnegie Hall 1972. Great show!

I hope they will include some live shows. They were such a great live act in those days. Or maybe they will save it for an In Concert box?

Here's the full press release, which mentions other upcoming projects (the So Tough/Holland archival set, a feature-length documentary, etc.):

I really hope we will get some full concerts from the 72-74 era. They were an incredible live band in those days.

been listening the last few days and I am loving it! Oh boy they NAILED the Susie Cincinnati mix this time, this is my favorite mix of it by far. Also "Sound of Free" sounds really great, love the harder guitar sounds towards the end. Has anyone else listened to the Marcella acapella like 50 times? Holy heck Mike Love's bass parts on there and the "uh-huh" harmonies on the second verse are amazing. I think I just noticed something... Is that Dennis singing the "one arm, ONE ARM over my shoulder, sandals.. that dance, DANCE at my feet ,etc, Her eyes, THOSE eyes etc"  part on the left speaker second chorus starting around around 1:36??  it sounds like him and it's amazing and I never realized it until now.

Yep, the Marcella acapella track may even be my favourite of the complete boxset. Why was it included though? As a tease for the next release? Same for Mess of Help. I thought both were tracks from 1972 (So Tough era)
12  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: If 15 Big Ones was a completely originals album on: April 20, 2020, 09:58:02 AM
When Ricky and Blondie left it all went pretty much downhill from there... Love You album is an exception though.
13  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Marcella on: April 08, 2020, 09:45:41 AM
Well, this thread escalated quickly Wink

Lovely discussion, guys. I guess "my" version doesn't really fit the 1972 standard. Which is fine. I still think Marcella is a killer track. I do prefer the live version, though.
14  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Marcella on: April 05, 2020, 02:51:48 AM
Marcella is one of my favourite tracks, but I think its rather slow pace doesn't do the song justice. I made this years ago and, to me, it sounds much better now (maybe a tad too fast):

What do you think? I also think it could have used a heavier guitar tone (like they did in the live versions). A very underrated track overall and one which could have been a big hit, IMHO.

This is a stunning track.

And while you're at it, you might as well enjoy the other obvious Brian tribute from Athens, Georgia:

Thanks for sharing this track. I love it!

Probably posted before, but this track is such a beautiful nod towards Brian and the Pet Sounds album. Lovely vocals and instrumentation (notice the bass harmonica for example).

Looking forward to any live material.

I really hope the 72-73 era will be covered as well some day. They were such a great live act back then.

Mark Linett has said that a box for In Concert is a possibiltiy

That would be amazing Smiley

All Dressed Up For School is ace. Love Carl's lead.
20  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Did Brian ruin Heroes and Villains by adding the \ on: October 02, 2013, 11:42:40 AM
I'm not a big fan of the studio version, any studio version. Mostly because of the muddy mix.

Give me the In Concert version instead.
21  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: MIC Disc 5 - First 10 tracks on: October 02, 2013, 11:40:42 AM
A separate live disc would have been even better. Disc 5 is quite odd. Going from 2012 back to a live recording from 1965.

Pitter Patter must be one of their most underrated songs ever. It's such a clever tune. Those harmonies are amazing.

23  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: The Mike Love Love Thread on: September 24, 2013, 11:46:39 AM
His bass vocals are some of the best Smiley

Hmmm, I always thought that it was Ed Carter playing lead guitar on this track  Undecided

Me too. Sounds very much like his style.
25  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Blondie Chaplin to Guest with BW on Some Dates on: September 06, 2013, 10:15:16 AM
He should have been part of the C50 tour as well. Great news, nonetheless!
