Whatever the reason for this album, I'm glad it exists. It's truly fantastic. It's got everything a die-hard fan would want: some hits, some deep cuts, newer stuff, and an otherwise unreleased (sorta) song. For me, there are three problems with it:
1) No Dennis-composed or Dennis-sung songs.
2) No "God Only Knows." But from what I understand, the band didn't do that song during those tours because instead, after the show was over, LSO's version of GOK was piped in over the PA.
3) There's some noticeable flutter and wow on some of the tracks -- definitely noticeable on "You Still Believe in Me" and "Funky Pretty." I hope that gets fixed at some point.
They played God Only Knows at the Carnegie Hall 1972 show, if I'm not mistaken.

I too really hope we finally get an official release of the BBs playing 'Jumpin Jack Flash' I also hope/predict that The Flame's two albums recorded around this time might get included in this boxset, given the involvement from Carl and Desper. It wouldn't even shock me if it's released as "The Beach Boys" like how Dont Worry Bill and Its A New Day eventually were released. I love this era and I'm so excited for the new box set !! If you're talking about the live version of "Don't Worry Bill" released as part of a medley with the live "Wonderful" on the Endless Harmony Soundtrack...well, that IS the Beach Boys! Sure, that half of the medley is a Flame song, but a live Beach Boys performance from 1972, including Blondie and Ricky. As for "It's A New Day" - well, it's a Dennis solo track with a Blondie lead. Technically not quite a Beach Boys recording, but not the Flame either. Yep. Live at Carnegie Hall 1972. Great show!

been listening the last few days and I am loving it! Oh boy they NAILED the Susie Cincinnati mix this time, this is my favorite mix of it by far. Also "Sound of Free" sounds really great, love the harder guitar sounds towards the end. Has anyone else listened to the Marcella acapella like 50 times? Holy heck Mike Love's bass parts on there and the "uh-huh" harmonies on the second verse are amazing. I think I just noticed something... Is that Dennis singing the "one arm, ONE ARM over my shoulder, sandals.. that dance, DANCE at my feet ,etc, Her eyes, THOSE eyes etc" part on the left speaker second chorus starting around around 1:36?? it sounds like him and it's amazing and I never realized it until now.
Yep, the Marcella acapella track may even be my favourite of the complete boxset. Why was it included though? As a tease for the next release? Same for Mess of Help. I thought both were tracks from 1972 (So Tough era)

Well, this thread escalated quickly Lovely discussion, guys. I guess "my" version doesn't really fit the 1972 standard. Which is fine. I still think Marcella is a killer track. I do prefer the live version, though.

Marcella is one of my favourite tracks, but I think its rather slow pace doesn't do the song justice. I made this years ago and, to me, it sounds much better now (maybe a tad too fast): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=enSFCmt1mogWhat do you think? I also think it could have used a heavier guitar tone (like they did in the live versions). A very underrated track overall and one which could have been a big hit, IMHO.
