Just a quick throwback:

Beach Boys Family & Friends on Regis and Kathie Lee (1998-11-23)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dn1nKcKO5fY

That's an interesting clip. Not surprised Al got in touble after this. It's very cheeky and seems like they are the only Beach Boys band......with their new single "Darlin"?  Grin

Tbf, Fullpage was way ahead of her time. Would be accused of using AI these days but she's an original  Grin

These aren't "Storytellers" shows, so I think it'll be mostly music. Plus, if he's truly using a lot of Brian's backing musicians, and especially if Darian is on board, they'd have a solid musical director keeping things on track. If he really has Darian and a bunch of the other Brian band, Al can pretty much call out whatever song he wants.

I hope so. We wiil see I guess. The storytelling is obviously much more suited to a 3 piece in small venues.

That thread about Mike, Bruce and Al writing new words for SMiLE at their current age is pure gold. One for the BB Messageboard HOF.

Great news to see Al performing with Brians band. I think it will take some time to refine the show. People who want to hear rarities, also don't want to hear Al half remembering old stories told a hundred times so hope they find the right mix.

Am I the only one to think that this song is simply fantastic. And a special middle finger to the ........ers able only to bitch about autotune etc, even in such a circumstance (not here, bless this forum).
And I know the (great) original version. This new one is my favourite. Not being perfect can be a plus, and here it is. So emotional, in the best sense.

I love it! Perfect song choice for Brian.

It may have been set to no longer access sites that use http instead of https (which costs extra for websites, and some of us site owners can't afford to pay extra). There may be a setting in the browser you can change to let you access "unsecured" http sites.

So that's the reason why the board doesn't use https?  I never knew that upgrading would cost extra.  Theoretically (Emdeeh, I know you aren't responsible for the board, but as a site owner), would it be possible to upgrade to https if many of us contributed a one-time donation or once-per-year donation?  I'm asking just because everything I've read/heard is that https websites are safer/more protected than HTTP websites.  Thanks!!

Most hosts offer free SSL. There are options like Lets Encrypt that also offer free SSL but with a need to update every 3 months. Cloudflare has a free option as well.

I'd imagaine there would be issues with how old the software this board uses when it comes to making all pages secure. The software is now 9 years out of date.

Anyone heard this https://www.discogs.com/release/27729141-The-Pranks-The-Warner-Demos-Collection

The Pranks were a band Jeff was in with Randall Hirsch among others. John Cowsill sometimes I think. Maybe there was a plan to try officially release some of this stuff?
13  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: R.I.P. Jeff Foskett on: December 12, 2023, 01:10:13 PM
Such sad news. Jeff was such an amazing part of those wonderful touring years with BW. Must have seen him 10 times or more.

Re: the RS article https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/jeffrey-foskett-beach-boy-brian-wilson-dead-obituary-1234924498/amp/ - I hadn't heard this part before "Foskett reached out to his buddies Darian Sahanaja and Nick Walusko in the L.A.-based band the Wondermints, lifelong Beach Boys fanatics who Foskett knew would be perfect for the job." - Thought it was Brian and Melinda who saw them at a BW/BB tribute show?

A lot of these songs make me think of Kids American TV shows from the 80s, 90s....California Dreams/Saved by the Bell style. Clumsy lyrics with bad production values.

Opened my 5LP + 7" set about an hour ago. Listened to CATP and about half way through Holland. Really impressed with the pressing quality so far. Proper anti static sleeves too not paper as I've seen mentioned on discogs.

A complete concert from Hollywood 1973 appeared on Spotify, but the tracks are not clickable. What is this?

It was working yesterday but sadly not today. I listened to half of it and it sounded great. Probably another copyright protection move.

22  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / Smiley Smilers Who Make Music / I've got a Friend - Vocal Cover with Original Track on: February 17, 2023, 07:16:02 AM
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1yj8Yc9A7u8

A "sort of" cover of I've got a Friend. A bit karaoke I suppose but seeing as no studio vocal exists (and the live audio is so low quality) I thought it might be interesting to try put something together.

I took the track off the Feel Flows set and edited so it would fit all the lyrics from the live version.

I then added my own vocal taking the lyrics from here - reddit.com/r/thebeachboys/comments/vregct/lyrics_for_ive_got_a_friend

Speaking of the Box Tops, anybody heard about this?

Big Star playing #1 Record in the studio for Carl Wilson and Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys

Wow! that's news to me. Thanks for sharing.

Who is that in the pic at 1.43? Guy with guitar looks like Alex Chilton.

For some reason there's not a lot going on here about "Carry me home" so I would just like to express again how much I appreciate this "new" version. Much more than I ever liked listening to the bootlegged version (for obvious reasons). Listening to this release blew my mind. Blondie and Dennis sharing the lead is very effective and it shoows (as does the In Concert album) how well Blondie's voice fit in with the Beach Boys blend. Man, if only Blondie and Ricky would've stayed with the band.
Thanks Alan, Mark, Howie, Beach Boys and everyone else who made sure we can enjoy this beautiful recording.

Agree, it sounds fantastic. What a song to be left unreleased for 50 years or so. I heard the leaked Brother Rarities one but this version blows it away.
