The way people keeps looking at each others forums shows that everyone might as well still be on the same one. You guys love each other really  Grin

The response(s) were basically of the message that they are not the one with the answers, and that there are "more important" things going on, encouraging me to "put this in perspective" with the global pandemic and all.

I presume then that the latest issue of ESQ is wall-to-wall COVID-19 coverage? Because the cover suggests otherwise.

Quite similar to the moderation style of Mike Love's socials. Lost a lot of respect for ESQ over the last few years.

The appearance of Feel Flows in that movie when it came out really brought a lot of my friends round to looking at the Beach Boys in a different way.

The fact it was a Carl song too was interesting. The reevaluation of the band in the music press was only really in it's early stage back then.

Well, the guy who co wrote It's About Time.  (Burchman) The guy who helped Al write Looking at Tomorrow.  (Winfrey?)  Joe Knott.  Shapiro.  Lieber and Stoller.  Jakobson.

There was an article a while back about Bob Burchman, the it's about time guy. Was certainly an interesting insight into how the band may treat outside writers. Maybe some are asking for a bigger cut now or felt they were treated unfairly/illegally. Found it here - https://medium.com/@JPRobinson/the-forgotten-song-that-made-the-beach-boys-countercultural-2171d70b94e8

Just listened to a few bits there but the band sound great, very tight.

Nice to hear this whole world, sail on sailor, forever (Carl)

99% of us are guessing here but the Love vs Wilson ego stuff doesn't make sense for me.

Lots of Brian stuff in recent copyright drops...68 stuff for instance. Proof is already on Sunflower anyway that Brian wasn't in bed, he's all over it.

It's likely down to some financial gripe between Mike and Brian IMO or perhaps outside writers.

Mike is the only author of "Big Sur" right? That's always seemed a little odd to me and perhaps is a reason why the 4/4 version has never been released. Does Mike even care about that song though? probably not.

I've read what Howie and Jon have said but I'm hopeful that whatever is stalling it will get sorted and it will be released in the near future.

Talk of this set changing the way the Beach Boys are viewed seems far fetched to me in relation to some of the theories being put forward.

Of course the set will be incredible for us die hard fans but Sunflower/Surfs Up and lots of previously unreleased bits and pieces from that era are already out there.

The SMiLE sessions are out there! Nothing is gonna beat that IMO in relation to changing the way the band are viewed.

Huge thanks to all the guys who helped put it together. I'm confident we will get it soon.....ish.

Nice words Gerry.... Roll Eyes

He has a point though. You need to carve out your own niche in the world of Beach Boys fandom. One OSD covers the Mike Love thing. Perhaps you could concentrate on Bruce  Grin Grin Grin

Lets look into this guy Daniel Charles Parker

Here is his discogs page - https://www.discogs.com/artist/6746654-Daniel-Charles-Parker

Any connection with that name as to why it might be a pseudonym?

I found this - http://members.calbar.ca.gov/fal/Licensee/Detail/118281

I guess that could be him. Started practicing in 1985 in LA. I sent him an email  Grin

... the Endless Harmony forum (that place where people refuse to acknowledge the name of this forum for whatever petty reason) ...

Just to set the record straight, I referred to SmileySmile as the "other" board over at EH, when I was trying to find out why this board was down for a while one day (at least it was an outage on my end). My thinking, perhaps flawed, was that leaving this board unnamed would be less likely to stir controversy over at there, when all I wished to find out was why I couldn't get this board to load. No other motive, seriously.

Hey Emdeeh, thanks for the response. I definitely see your point if you weren't trying to cause a stir, however I've seen it done so often there and when the PS forum was still around. It's usually done by petty people with petty motives.

As for the board being down - someone guessed that Charle's didn't pay the bill to which AGD responded "Exactly that: happens every year, as the forum is barely on Chuckie's radar." Whether or not that is true, this board goes in and out all the time for me and I highly doubt the 5 times a week this happens to me (and I see the same message you saw nearly every time) has anything to do with Charles not paying a bill. Actually I wouldn't mind hearing from the Mods about their theories as to why the website goes down ever so often.

I remember it starting to consistently go down often after the PS Forum became a thing. I highly doubt anyone would be petulant enough to program an ongoing/sporadic DDOS attack on this place, but nearly stupider things have happened with certain people in this fandom so who knows.

The board software is way out of date. Also have you ever tried look at this site on mobile? Presumably a web developer needs to be hired at this stage to upgrade everything safely.

Let's remember that Mike is the guy who rhymed good vibrations with assassinations. That being said it's also  clear that OSD has never contributed anything to this group except asinine  comments about Love. I could forgive him if they were funny but....
No, he isn't. He didn't write that song.

The guy who did write it has one entry on discogs. I'm suspicious.
141  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: UPDATE: Brian performing on Colbert 6/4 at 11:35 PM ET on CBS on: June 06, 2020, 07:05:51 AM
Lovely performance from Brian. Frail but beautiful.

Seen a lot of comments on social media saying I love Brian but won't watch Colbert. Presumably a political thing? I know nothing about US chat shows.

Possibly. Colbert regularly dismantles Trump on his show. Although to be fair, he does that with every politician who's doing a bad job, but obviously Trump is currently the main subject due to him being president. Colbert even created his own cartoon series "Our cartoon president" which is cureently in it's second or even third season (I'm not really following that).
So, I think your guess may very well be correct.

Thanks Rocker.

It's just.....kinda boring really and lazy. Listen to it once and even though I don't hate it, I'd have no reason to take it off the shelf again.
144  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Mike Love Planning New Vocal Album on: May 29, 2020, 02:21:54 AM
Mike: Hey Scott, get the guys together and knock out 11 or 12 acapella songs.
Scott: Will do Mike, any thoughts on the track listing?
Mike: yeah, old doo wop stuff, something george harrison related, hit the americas band thing and of course some good ol fun fun fun.
Scott: OK
Mike: When's it's done, I'll add my vocals but not spending more than a few hours on it.

Just joking...no offence to Scott or anyone else  Grin

The guy is nearly 80. Don't blame him for taking it easy.

How ridiculous is that this song has still never been officially released? The amount of hardcore fans that are no longer around to hear it.

Back to topic....that's an excellent version!

Presumably no-one he works with can say, Mike, that's a really bad lyric, you need to come up with something better.

Maybe if they finally gets in a room together, Brian can tell him  Grin

He seems to have a formula in mind with this kind of song and tries to hit each part of that formula no matter how awkward it makes the lyric.

Wish Al would release more music. He seems to tinker with songs endlessly. Maybe start a singles club or something. Six 45s in a year. That way there's a deadline.
