Nice one Julia that’s really good of you. Now it’s just a question of retaining that info  LOL Smokin

Count me among those who would pay good money for a Love You boxset, even if it has to include material from 15BO and Adult/Child (which I personally don't care for) to fill it out. Maybe, hopefully, the silver lining to Brian's passing might mean that we get an archival release of material more associated with him as an individual artist. I'd love a comprehensive Paley Sessions boxset, even if a lot of it has come out in other places, it'd be nice to just have it all in one place and without any inferior remixes like in the 04 album. Im not sure what exists in the vaults for Brian's solo career but I'd love an "Imagination...Naked" type release of any raw tapes that may exist pre-Thomas' noodling, or perhaps the same for BW88, if there are demos and/or less overwrought mixes out there that let those songs breathe. (In my opinion the final version is so cacophonous I can hardly make out the melodies.)

Now, to my favorite topic  Grin...
Is there any good reason why the SMiLE material hasn't gotten the Pet Sounds treatment of officially released a capella and instrumental only versions of the songs? I know the TSS boxset gave us some session highlights and the "backing vocals montage" track but so much was missing if there wasn't a valid reason like the tapes being lost. Im desperately trying to get my hands on isolated CIFOTM chorus/SU reprise vocals for my fanmix as well as what I believe is referred to as the "Version 1 chorus" of CIFOTM. (As heard here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O271xZpAIw8 and in a more complete albeit low quality form here: https://youtu.be/k8aBdPYtNkI?si=H73-yPSMLMhELsGg&t=172 <I'd kill to have that entire piece in high quality!)

I wouldn't mind higher quality versions of some of the Psychedelic Sounds as well, though realistically I'm probably alone on that front. Just the Smog and Taxi Cabber skits and more of the Hal Blaine veggie fight would be great. (The one they included in TSS was way too brief.)

This has jogged my memory, I’ve got a red coloured glossy card cased ocean CD I’ve not listened to for years! What I do remember of it is at the time loving the hi-fidelity in comparison to other SMiLE boots I came across way back then. The audio quality was rich and phat. Hopefully it’s a rich as my distant memory thinks it might be. I think it also had some tracks in stereo but I may be wishful thinking on that. Will dig it out and have a play  Afro

Daft question but is there a way to add pics on here? I’d love to upload some to see if it jogs anyones mind got any background on it
4  Smiley Smile Stuff / Smile Sessions Box Set (2011) / Re: TSS - All things Surf's Up on: July 09, 2025, 09:33:28 PM
On the first page of this thread someone mentions how part 2 should be subtly scored.  Here is a version I made with additional humming vocals from the Vegetables backing vocals and a string quartet version recorded by The Stockholm Strings.  Minor speed correction was done to match a freestyle performance to the vocal take, but it wasn't too far off.  just wanted the stacatto stabs to line up with the piano.  THIS is how the song would have sounded finished.

Sorry late to the party, this is lovely, nice and rich. Granted it’s not a perfect recording as you yourself hint at too. But I love the added emotional musical weight it gives. Would love a wav of this if that was somehow possible? Really decent work well done 👏

One song I’ve always wanted to hear is a young Ronnie Spector singing don’t worry baby. I know she’s covered it in her later years but if there’s anyway Dae Lima could ever muster an AI beach boys version with peak era Ronnie singing the lead well I’d die a happy man

I told my wife, when bookoff smile came out, that the best thing that could happen is that it would be "outdated by summer" and it seems my highest hopes are about to be met!!

This is fantastic, I can’t wait to hear the full SMiLE work you’ve done once complete. Really impressed!
7  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / BWPS TSS in Atmos Surround Sound on: November 29, 2022, 05:55:26 AM
Good day everyone

Hope you're all well and having a brilliant day!

After listening to SMiLE everyday for around 4 years i had a pause around 2014, in the hope of saving my marriage more than anything  LOL Smokin
I've just started pulling myself back in, and had a few questions i wondered all you more knowledgeable fans may have the answers to.

Question 1
Will there ever be an ATMOS, or other surround sound mix pf Pet Sounds, Brian Wilson Presents SMiLE. The SMiLE Sessions?
I hope so more than anything.

Question 2
The Pet Sounds Boxset, The SMiLE Sessions, Brian Wilson Presents SMiLE
The quality of writing, musicianship, performance, sound and mixing on Pet Sounds as a collective is incredible in all these aspects. That is without question.
One thing I've always wondered about is why the quality of mix is so immersive here, yet with BWPS & TSS the mixes always seem a little in penetrable, not as enveloping / immersive, slightly muffled, dull sounding (even though it could be debated this music surpasses a little, Pet Sounds - i know an argument for another day for maaaaany reasons)?

Pet Sounds in its various released formats has felt like taking a pill, there is no barrier between me and the music, it becomes completely immersive, fluid to me.
SMiLE although a more dense orchestral mix, and having more of the dripping melting liquid feel of the musical notes etc, (and i love it and all its various formats as my favourite listening pleasure). For whatever reason, it just doesn't seem to be as rich, or fully enveloping for me much to my frustration!!!
SMiLE should have the same audio quality rich immersive listening experience i get with all of Pet Sounds, and the likes of 'California Girls' as another example ( 'Can't wait too long' is another example) - it should feel even more like taking a pill, but for some reason and i can't understand why, there always seems 'something' that seems to get between me and the music, even if its as thin as a cig paper. Its not letting me ingest it and become 'in' me

This is so hard to describe, but its almost like rather than being consumed and becoming 1 with the music ala Pet Sounds, California Girls etc (like taking a trip or pill), SMiLE and its various formats BWPS, TSS, the Boots etc i just can't get as immersed. Im not getting the pill feel as much. Believe me its not a case of needing to take a walk on the wild side to get it, I've walked that path many times to know.
Is it the mix? what is it? No its not the missing bits, i can move beyond that, (and some studio boots from other BB songs give me that)

Does anyone else get this 'barrier' or inability to pop the balloon?

Final Question
When The SMiLE Sessions were being prepped, there was talk of a further 2 disks of outtakes, so it'd be 7 disk boxset.
What ever happened to this? Why didn't it come out (it mustve been prepped enough to be considered and the tracks/outtakes arranged/sequenced for 2 further disks)
What tracks were supposed to be on it, I'm assuming id already have had access to hearing some of these but theres always a little fish thats wriggled free of the net.

Thanks for your help Brian, Dennis, & Carl Air Quotes

Hi everyone

Apologies I’m not tech savy enough to just post the song link but I found this the other night and having searched on here noticed it’s not been added. Personally my fav version is on the 2ffer SmileySmile bonus but this version has parts I’ve not heard before.

il admit ive never listened to the album for fear of 80s production (which i HATE), but interested in hearing the song quality sounds fairly positive. are there any boots of the demo's or sessions / out takes that became of the nature of what they are, wouldn't have the 80s production that the finished released album had?

18  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Looking back on Brian's best studio recordings of the last decade on: March 24, 2017, 12:54:15 PM
I was compiling a list of my favourite tracks since 2007's What Love Can Do, and was surprised at how much quite a lot of it holds up when you stack most of the best (imo) recordings together:

1. What Love Can Do
2. Forever She'll Be My Surfer Girl
3. Southern California
4. Live Let Live (Demo)
5. Midnights Another Day (Demo)
6. The Like In I Love You
7. 'S Wonderful
8. They Can't Take That Away from Me
9. I Got Rhythm
10. Baby Mine
11. Colors Of The Wind
12. Think About The Days
13. That's Why God Made The Radio
14. Isn't It Time
15. Spring Vacation
16. Shelter
17. Strange World
18. From There to Back Again
19. Pacific Coast Highway
20. Summer's Gone
21. Wanderlust
22. This Beautiful Day
23. Whatever Happened
24. The Right Time
25. I'm Feeling Sad
26. One Kind Of Love

On listening through my comp, the past 10 years seem to have been a definite improvement over the preceding 10-15 years of BB related music IMO. (Presents SMiLE excepted)

Anyone else find more enjoyment in Brian's modern solo work than most 80s-90s recordings? How do his most recent recordings compare to his previous eras?

Is this the same thing?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z-8DQ9Rqkm4

if so, aahhh that demo's lush, whats the best boot to search for of this album? didnt know about it mmmmm
19  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Favorite Vocals-Only Moments on: March 09, 2017, 03:13:10 PM
I only wish this was available in better sound quality.  From a very old boot, a Please Let Me Wonder session.  The final take where the boot-maker drops the backing track out- mindblowing.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vh0iKhXW6vw

just play from 07.43
wow creamy, love the dynamics on the chorus.

Also the backing vocals track for she knows me too well!

AMAZING completely agree!!!!! my personal fav take being...
'She Knows Me Too Well (Take 16, Stereo Chorus Overdub Session)' from the Archaeology (Lost Recordings Sessions 1963 - 1968).

22  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: The Beatles role in SMiLE's demise on: January 03, 2017, 12:03:00 PM
I'm sure i heard or read sopmewhere about Brian being played an acetate of 'A Day in The Life' before anything from Sgt Pepper had come out, and that it was this & the SFields single stealing in ahead of him - something along the lines of first is first and second is nowhere maybe?
23  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: You Are So Beautiful request on: December 18, 2016, 11:19:06 AM
Okay I gave it a shot a little while ago and it's a bit clunky at parts but here is the rough attempt I made

if you can't listen that way I'll figure out a way

Good Effort Smiley

Hello 'HeyJude'
Point taken and generally id agree with that sentiment, however posts suggesting the above clip in a reply to a friendly request just aint cool & at best a moot point, is that clip anything other than turd, i mean really?!?  Shocked

just watch it and see if you get anything beneficial from it  LOL

Thanks for the below info tho, much appreciated  Smiley
'I'm guessing there's rather limited familiarity with a home-made video of Carli Munoz playing a gig outside of the Beach Boys, possibly a number of years after he left the touring band. Cool to see and hear of course. '
