Can we still eventually expect to hear Aren't You Glad?! I was very excited to hear you were succeeding with it, that may be my favourite Wild Honey track ^_^
At some point I definitely wanna finish that one up. Been bogged down with a bunch of production / mixing work as well as working on my own album, but one of these days I'll get back into vocal extraction mode and knock that out. I'll post a snippet of what I did so far if you wanna hear it. Can you re-upload Walk On By - Extended Mix) on SoundCloud or something? Love to hear it. seconded

in terms of the bonus tracks on each of the 2fers, what beats this?
Hereoes & Villains - Alternate Take Good Vibrations - Various Sessions Good Vibrations - Early Take You're Welcome Their Hearts were full of Spring Can't Wait Too Long
'Can't Wait Too Long - the single best piece of unreleased music in the beach boys archive' - David Leaf can't argue with that, one of the best archive discoveries I've ever heard!!!!!
as a 2fer stitcly on the albums i'd go with Today/Summer Nights - EASY!!! but the bonus tunes start to bring up SS/WH a little, still go for T/SN though

The Vigotone 2-CD Smile set is still essential even though much of it has been replaced by the official Smile box and other bootlegs. The complete Sea of Tunes and Dumb Angel sets are required. Get the Boot is another required release. The Pegboy Landlocked/Adult Child is the best place to find those two collections. Leggo My Ego and Capitol Punishment are good compilations of Pet Sounds and Today/Summer Days sessions, respectively. For live bootlegs, look for the two Lei'd in Hawaii shows, the two 1968 London shows, the 1970 Seattle show with Brian subbing for Michael, the 1970 Big Sur Folk Festival gig, the 1971-72 Carnegie Hall gigs, the 1971 Syracuse gig, the 1971 Princeton gig, the two 1971 Fillmore East gigs, the 1972 Boston gig, and the 1973 Hartford gig for a good start. Everything after is for hardcores only.
For solo Brian, Landylocked or Soul Searchin' are needed for the Paley sessions. The Wilson Project, 21 Little Ones, and Come Back, Brian! are great for the second Landy period. It's Not Easy Being Green has a lot of early 80s demos. The demos for That Lucky Old Sun are required.
For solo Dennis, look for Denny Remembered.
For solo Michael, First Love and Unleash the Love/Mike Love Not War are good to hear.
Blondie Chaplin's unreleased album The Fragile Thread is a hidden treasure.
Bravo

If Smile floats your boat and you can find it cheap, Dominic Priore's Smile book (NOT Look Listen, Vibrate, Smile - you need to own that anyway) is good for the extensive Van Dyke interviews, less so on little details.
aha!!! I've heard alot of good things about Dominic Priore & 'Look Listen Vibrate, SMiLE' but never managed to discover a copy yet (at least one i can afford when i spot it). I'll def be checking that bad boy out (Yes I am sadly ANOTHER SMiLE fanatic..). The other Book by Dominic sounds really interesting, especially for the Van Dyke interviews Thanks for evryone's help on here, great to be pointed in the right direction and be given a fair few options on what to go for

wierd I've just read this on holiday last week (having read 'catch a wave' a couple of years back). I'd heard it was kinda co-written with Landy a while back so was a bit skeptical. Defo interesting in a kinda ghoulish way, more so in the latter 3rd. This book has distorted my head abit so I think I'm going to have to reread 'catch a wave' again striaght off to get some better oversight. bad example but.. I'd watched this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oZSAQX2uuUY aages ago, but hearin it mentioned in WIBNMOS was interesting. I don't know whether or what to believe with the relationship with his dad & family, stan love etc, really shockin if the majority of it is true. It's amusing hearing Landy's various job title's as the book progress's It's got me wondering is there another book other than 'catch a wave' i could read to get a more rounded view, sure WIBNMOS is SKETCHY to put it mildly but it's got me keen to read another book that's not so dubious/'managed'/ulterior content as this but diferent from 'catch a wave' These are the only 2 I've read on the Beach Boys and Brian Wilson & would love to read another, I'd thought I'd throw it out and ask for a recommendation from you if that's okay?

Well hearing Smile material live I don't think I can top that in my book.
that is the vibe I'm after hearing through my speakers!! I've got the BWPS Live DVD with Beautiful Dreamer, a little too jolly for me & BWPS CD, not 'quite' as Jolly but lacks the resonence/vibe/contemplation/etheral otherworldlyness of TSS i also have whats the best SMiLE gig? if anyone has a clue just send me a PM - am soooo desperate to hear more of the TSS vibe when played live, is it there? sorry for the perseverance but i sadly missed out on seeing BW live mid 2000

For me, it's the live version of BWPS, as captured in 5.1, on the Burbank DVD. The studio recording feels relatively - airless - by comparison. And yes, I agree that all the new changes and additions are superb, apt, and now indelible.
I, too, hear them all the time in my head.
Yeah , i bought the DVD too, seems abit overtly 'jolly' to me? I've watched some youtube clips taken from some gigs and, although the sound doesnt compare - the actual vibe/performace is pretty different. And that itself is also diff in vibe to TSS, these are abit more solem/reverant/spiritual - Ideally I'd love to have abit more of the weight of the TSS vibe coming through in the live stuff, i mean the cumulative/some of its contents vibe may have waffled alittle there and muddied what i mean.. o well

Finally herd BWPS on vinyl for the first time last night (and my first time hearing the whole thing since TSS came out) and it lived up to all the hype. It doesn't even sound like the same album to me... and... except for a few things (no BB vocals) I was surprised that I like it better than the original sessions. Sonically it is like TSS is a box of 32 Crayola Crayons and BWPS (vinyl) is a box of 64 Crayolas. Well said. The above helped finally made me borrow my mates vinyl and play it back on another mates fancy deck/studio setup WELLLLLLLLLL WOOOOOORRRRTHHHY of all the accolades mentioned on here - GREAT MIX, sonically its my fav mix atm - everyone should check it out really nice!!!

Hi there
Not posted for a while on here. With the new BB 2012 tour goin on, i was comparing it to some of the BW shows from 2000 onwards to see what the diff is (yes i know one has the remaining BB's and the other just the one BB) sonically with the instruments / vocals / arrangements etc
Thought i'd branch it out a little to you guys and ask which is the best sounding boot of BB 2012, and also likewise for BW from 2000 onwards, AN also what you think of the differences between the 2, and which you prefer for better or for worse etc.
One last one, I'm desperate to find the best sounding/performed Live BW show of SMiLE (with some choice Pet Sounds, Here Today cuts thrown in), could anyone point me in the right direction on this?
THanks for your help!

Stones Members circa 2012
All appear fit and able to play, even Mick Taylor, Wyman look willing and able to some extent. On a playing level, the ONE concern is Keith Richards, can he play anymore? apparently arthritic hands, coupled with forgetting riffs like Gimme Shelter and his kinda coasting performances are a big concern for a gig, never mind a tour On a writing level, i am fearful - Keith again hmmm... is there anything left in the tank, heart says yes/head says no Mick - i am also fearful, however! given his melodies/lryics on plundered my soul and other new/old songs from the recent remasters/expanded releases shows he's defo capable of it, but also capable of bumming it
i'd like to see taylor, wood, richards all playing, with bill and charlie and mick, bobby keys etc and play like they did in the early 70s pomp - that would be nice

Oh 3 is hard, how about five in no particular order
If it's on the premise of me getting someone new into the beach boys i'd go with the below (outside of no compilations), and listened to in that order Top 3 1. Today (if a comp is allowed i'd slip in 'Endless Summer' here in place of 'Today') 2. Pet Sounds 3. Smile Sessions Top 5 1. All Summer Long 2. Today 3. Pet Sounds 4. Smile Sessions 5. Sunflower

Just had a listen to Purple Chicks SMiLE, really good job this - i do like the use of the link in pieces of music between the songs, really harmonious this and the Fast Eddie are the 2 boots i always turn to outside of TSS
I'm going to try and do a mix of TSS & Purple Chick, but using the TSS track listing (not a literal mix but try a comulative approach but just using the best sounding tracks we now have since TSS Boxset) Think i might have a go at singing the missing L.voc's too ha ha, yes i know it may go tits up but as it's for me i'll gamble
wish me look

This photo however, yuck. Nice hair, Al? And what is up with Bruce's scrunchface smile? It seems to get worse as the years go by. Its super annoying, and it always bothers me when I see photos with him looking like that, cuz it makes him look older, and the group look cheesier, in my opinion. Man you can't criticise somebody for smiling. Really? REALLY? lol y'know its kinda fair to say overall Mike Love comes out the best in the pic, need i say more..

Apart from a few disappointing mixes (Holidays) and a few disappointing (but distractingly prominent) bits in mixes (IIGS & SU), overall, I'm very impressed with the presentation. I think the philosophy was spot on, and they left enough latitude (in most cases) for fans to customise & re-sequence the material according to preference. Add to that the superlative packaging and sessionography, and I think it will stack up amongst the best of the archival releases.
hard not to argue with this although... i wish we'd heard what was gona be on the 'extra' cd that wasnt to be?

I find myself unable to listen to TSS without singing the "completed" vocal lines from BWPS
Me as well. I really hope some fan mixer can create a version of TSS with the missing BWPS vocals added and I mean the correct order in sequence with TSS as the template. Too many of the other attempts have been out of order and edited in different ways. Very very true, some have been great but yep I do the same and i'd love this too!
