Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Bruce's voice...What the foda happened?
|

His voice IMHO started to sound a bit different as far back as "Endless Harmony", but really became noticeable on "She Believes in Love Again". As for his voice now, I cannot say, because I haven't heard a vocal from him past 1992, so I can't judge.
From everything I've read, he hardly ever sings, and has been like that for a few years. Let's just put it this way...Adrian Baker did far more vocals on the 1998 Nascar thing than Bruce ,and actually, I wonder if Bruce even sang on the album.
Which means one of two things... 1) His voice must sound terrible these days
or
2). He doesn't care as long as he gets his pay check.

Forgiveness for what? I don't recall Anna doing any harm to me. I may be the only man in the world not claiming to having fathered a child with her.
Don't forget Michael Jackson. Of course, in that case, "man" is used extremely loosely.

@ the title of this thread. You'd think it could be titled a bit more appropriately. Yeah, probably. Of course, it was from a famous quote! ot "SkateTown" - that wasn't recorded by June/July 1978, when Walter made his wonderful quote, nor "California Feeling" (tape date is 8/28/78).
I'm thinking: Calendar Girl Santa Ana Winds Brian's Back Shortenin' Bread (1973 track & bvs)
... and if they played him "Rubles", I'm surprised he didn't tear up the contract on the spot. It's like "Wrinkles", only about a horse. Remember, he'd just promised them $8.5 MILLION. Who wrote/sang Rubles? I've never heard of it. And in all honesty, excepting possibly Brian's Back, those songs in place of , eh...HCTN, Going South, and the version of SB that actually came out on the record, would've made this a great album, instead of a merely good one. Are you sure Looking Down the Coast wasn't on the tape? I thought it was from that time period...or was it recorded AFTER the album?

Question:
What songs were on the infamous demo (for what later became LA Light) that caused Walter Yetnikoff to make that famous statement? According to the P A Carlin book and others, Brian was producing, and shortly after that comment was made, he called Bruce back into the fold. What was on that tape? I know "Looking Down the Coast" and "Calendar Girl" (and possibly "Santa Ana Winds")were on it; what else was there?

Wait a minute, Mr. Moderator. I lose? What does that mean? Is this a competition? Because I happen to disagree with the point of view that you and SJB are taking, as do many other posters, I am not allowed to express my opinion? What kind of attitude is that from a moderator of a message board that is supposed to be a forum for expressing one's opinions. By the way, it wasn't very funny when you said it, either.
Nah, just you using the same line he did. Nothing else. Nobody is stopping anybody from expressing opinions. If they were' I'd find out why and we'd resolve it like adults. Or we'd get wasted and slap each other silly. Depends on the mood I'm in. However, if you didn't think it was funny at first, then why'd you say it? Meh. The matter's dropped. Back on topic everybody...

Well, yeah, but for me music is something sacred. Music's always been a source of pleasure...a source of healing...just something else altogether. For someone to only be in it for the money, especially with IMHO the greatest group in history, just baffles me. Even Mike, for all his faults, has had more than just simply a monetary interest in the group.
But yeah...that's a whole 'nother thread...

I don't much like his writing or find him very interesting musically, but as far as singing and playing ability, he's good. That's what I was referring to. In other words, I can't stand his style, he can be just as arrogant and smarmy as Mike (and has ADMITTED to only being in it for the money), but will admit he has a deal of talent.
