FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Big Sur, CA — Al Jardine's "A Postcard From California" will be
released exclusively on iTunes, Tuesday, June 29, 2010.

Jardine, a founding member of the legendary Beach Boys, has been
working on the new album over the last few years. He will
be joined by some very special guests on this disc including his
former band-mates Brian Wilson, Mike Love, David Marks, Bruce Johnston,
his his two sons Matt and Adam Jardine, as well as Steve Miller,
Gerry Beckley & Dewey Bunnell of America, David Crosby, Neil Young,
Glen Campbell, Flea, Scott Mathews, Norton Buffalo Alec Baldwin
and more...

Jardine has said that the album will touch upon California's history,
climate and energy problems as well as various ecological topics. It also
revisits his #1 hit with the Beach Boys, "Help Me Rhonda" with guest
vocals by Steve Miller and Matt Jardine. A video of the song is posted on
his web site,  www.AlJardine.com.

One of the songs, "Don't Fight The Sea" was recorded in the late 70s/80 for
a proposed environmentally themed solo album between Jardine and Mike Love,
but was never completed. Though the song was not intended for the Beach Boys,
the guys were, nevertheless, happy to lend their voices to it.
It is a timely theme in this year of the Gulf oil spill, and global warming.

Throughout the years, Jardine has written and produced most of the
ecological and social-themed songs for Beach Boys albums, including
the "California Saga" suite from the group's 1973 Holland album,
"Don't Go Near the Water" and "Lookin' At Tomorrow."

Also appearing as a special guest in an impromptu video is actor Alec Baldwin,
who currently stars as Jack Donaghy on the hit NBC sitcom 30 Rock. On the track,
“Tidepool Interlude,” Baldwin is seen reading a moving tribute to California and its
natural beauty written by Stephen John Kalinich as Jardine produces the session.
The video will also be released on Jardine's web site and YouTube Tuesday, June 29.

For more information on the new album visit his official website www.AlJardine.com.

"DFTS" not intended for the Beach Boys?  Hmm, that's not what his website said last time I looked...in fact, it said the exact opposite...

The most anticipated solo album from a founding member of the band(1),
Jardine will be supporting the release with a mini-solo tour this summer with
"Endless Summer" touring band featuring the original
Beach Boys' rhythm section (2)...
(1) More anticipated than BWPS? (2) Dennis was brought back to life to drum?

FINALLY!  I'm really glad to hear that it's finally getting released!  Even if it's just a digital release...I'm not going to complain.  I'll just be glad to have it, period.

I don't buy music from iTunes.   Why won't this be available on Amazon or Zune?

Available on amazon.com as a CDR "on demand". I love that phrase - doesn't it just make you want to send them an email saying "I DEMAND a copy of Al Jardine's new album !!"

This is a bit underwhelming considering how long Al spent looking for a deal.

I'd like a physical CD, not mp3s.

But at least if it's only available through itunes, then I can avoid buying the wretched Help Me Rhonda remake.

I'm happy for Al and I am happy that we fans will have some new music to enjoy.

I think the real news here is tour dates with the "original Beach Boys' rhythm section" Shocked...  either Al is going to break out the stand-up bass, and Brian is going to break out his finger on a snare...OR...they exhumed Dennis from the depths of the Pacific and Brian is actually going to plug in the P-bass. Either way its an incredible happening. Do you think Al is actually paying somebody to write this comedy?

An actual release date, hurrah! I am actually looking forward to this - new(ish) product from a Beach Boy is something we should be treasuring and Al's album followed by Brian's new album in August is going to make for a great summer. I too shall be demanding my right to a CDR from amazon as I don't have use i-tunes and probably never will.

I'm guessing the translation got lost between classic back up band and original rhythm section.

VERY dissapointing news.  Angry I've been waiting for this album for years and as soon as there's a physical release, I'll be the first to get it. But as long as it's a digital release only: screw it. I'm not paying for digital files or a CD-recordable.

How hard can it be to just release a DIY CD? Even my band did that a couple of times without losing money and unlike Al, we hardly have a fanbase to speak of.

It costs like $800-900 to print up 300 mastered albums.  And it gets cheaper, per disc, from there as the numbers go up.  If Al can't afford that himself, ugh!

And why in the world he go on tour to promote his new album but not have any CDs to flog at his gigs?Huh?

Most of us are Beach Boy collectors, of a sort,  and want a CD.

I guess, in the end, all that "label shopping/offers from record companies" was total BS.  Obviously, nobody wanted to release this thing.

I would think that it would be all over the front of aljardine.com, but I don't see anything unless you go to the messages section.

FYI you can listen to snippets of all the tracks at Amazon.com

It makes perfect sense that the album is available on iTunes. It's 2010, that's where a lot of people get their music nowadays. But download only is oh so lame. Putting a dozen new digital files online is not the same thing as releasing an actual album. At least give people the option to get a physical album.

Maybe some artists could get away with a download only album nowadays, But I think what Al forgot is that a lot of his fans are either not very young anymore, or a bit conservative when it comes to music. And a lot of them are collectors.

Does anyone know if this will get a physical release?  Maybe Al is trying to show how many units he can sell via amazon & iTunes to prove to record companies that he is a brand that will sell.
