Why has nobody taken note of this on Wikipedia yet?

VERY dissapointing news.  Angry I've been waiting for this album for years and as soon as there's a physical release, I'll be the first to get it. But as long as it's a digital release only: screw it. I'm not paying for digital files or a CD-recordable.

Who said it would just be MP3s burned to CD?

Er... the amazon.com website ?

The way I read the Amazon description was that they do have access to the master files and then burn those to CD.

Quote from: Amazon
What are CD-R and DVD-R media?

CD-Rs and DVD-Rs (the "R" stands for "recordable") look like the discs you're used to and offer the same audio and image quality. This recordable media is used to manufacture titles on demand, as fully authorized by the content provider.

Through manufacturing on demand, CreateSpace, part of the Amazon.com group of companies, enables Amazon.com to offer music and video content that might not otherwise be available. Each disc comes fully packaged, with artwork, in a standard jewel case for audio and an Amaray case for video, although for reissued products the artwork may differ from the original.

CreateSpace works with many of the leading music labels, television networks, film studios, and other distributors to make these titles available to Amazon.com customers. All products are manufactured from original source materials (e.g., for audio products, uncompressed CD-quality audio).

By eliminating inventory, waste, and inefficiencies in the distribution system, on-demand manufacturing provides the added benefit of helping preserve the environment.

When shopping, you'll see CD-R or DVD-R on the product detail page for such products. Amazon.com's standard return policy applies to these purchases.

yeh d00d. Doesn't sound like MP3 to CD, sounds like lossy source to CD. Sounds good enough to me.

MP3s are lossy, and if that is what was put onto the CD then it is indeed lossy-sourced audio you're getting. What an abysmal practice.

What happened to Al & David Crosby's cover of California Dreamin'?

From the sound samples I heard on Al's website over the years, that was one of the ones I was most looking forward to. Crosby's velvety vocals and sparse percussion really made the cover worthwhile in my opinion.

The California Dreamin' cover will come out on the physical release as a bonus track, so whoever already bought the iTunes/Amazon version is gonna have to buy it again. Smiley

I dunno if I really wish to buy it again, but I wouldn't mind having a physical release.

Yes, thank you.  But, alas, that's just vocals..... what about backing tracks?

I arrived home last night to find both A Postcard From California and the new ESQ CD. Enjoyed listening to both. I like Al's new CD; yes, nothing earth shattering, but very nice vocals and music, and the song sequencing is pretty good too. I think he used the guest stars well; nothing over the top.  Would like to hear him do more of an acoustic CD, it would lend well to his voice, which still sounds good after all these years. On a scale of 1 to 10, I'd give it a 7-8.

On Al's page there is a short video of Al with Alec Baldwin during the "Tidepool Interlude" recording.

I must say, I really dig "Postcard."  It's interesting to see Al in charge - he has a style of his own. Sure, it has plenty of remakes, but the new songs, both brand-new and re-vamped unreleased tracks, are very high quality. The remakes actually fit so well with the new material that I have a newfound respect for Al's ability to make a cohesive piece of work.  The production is not sterile like I expected it to be.

Overall, it makes me wish he had come out with a solo album much sooner! It also makes me hope for another Jardine album. The guests add to the album without taking the focus off of Al too much. The ending of "Honkin' Down the Highway" is so wacked that it makes me wonder if Al could be a creative genius-in-disguise... or at least if he is indulging in his state's medical marijuana program.

On the ESQ CD, "Honkin" and "Drivin" are both on there, but Honkin is first, and segues into Drivin.  The ending still sounds awkward, but makes much more sense when Drivin starts.

Yeah, I kind of like the sequencing of those two tracks better on the ESQ disc (even if the ESQ disc has slightly different mixes).
