Brian & Bob Norburg (or is it Norberg - always get it wrong), pretty much a home recording.

I've thought about an idea for a new thread or series of threads. I often have questions about a band member (mainly Carl!) that I have to ask either in this thread or on the back of a related topic. What do people think about having a thread for each BB member so that people can ask questions about them and those in the know, or with a bit more knowledge can help those of us out who need it? It would also make a good reference point for newbies.

Has this already been done? If so, sorry! Maybe these threads should be on the first page?

Start one, it sounds like a good idea. I'd leave Mike off though, as we all know that will get crapped on before a decent answer is given to a question posted about him. Wink

What kind of stuff are we posting on these?
Like current feelings about a song or album or two?
Or just to ask questions? or just listing all info we know?

Confused I kinda am.

I thought about having them so anyone with useful information on the boys could write it down in one place but mainly it would be so people who aren't already clued up can know more about specific members. So I guess whatever people want to write. Kind of a like a FAQ but also for opinions or rare facts. Where would I start the threads, in this section? I'd only do it if people thought it would be useful.

Maybe it's just me, but you all know how much I love printing posts and site's with loads of info so I really wanna print the album info from the Pipeline site (http://www.pipeline-operaglass.moonfruit.com) but as I clicked print for the whole page of an album, I just get a blank page printed out. idk with the author of the site posts here, but are you trying to discourage from printing from your site? I understand if you are, that's your copywritten information. I also tried selecting the whole page to copy/paste but it also doesn't work. Anyone ran into this problem before? It seems a lot of the info on this site is so valuable to me because it's never been written anywhere else about the album cover/photo info and such...I wish the author would print this in a book, I'd buy it.

1. I've read around this forum that Brian was really digging Stevie Wonder's use of the synthesizer during his classic period (1972-67) and that it was an influence on Brian's sound during the Love You/Adult Child era. I can see that musically, I think. Has Brian ever commented on it though, then or now? Has Stevie?

2. I'm only now getting into Lowell George/Little Feat! I noticed, thanks to VDP's Arrangements Vol. 1, that our (second-)favourite arranger has been involved with them too! This leads me to wonder something obvious: Did George have anything to say about Brian Douglas Wilson, especially as Brian was making awfully strange, insular music around the time Little Feat was goin' on? (I'm aware George was also in Zappa's Mothers of Invention too...)

Someone needs to write a book -- or at least a thread -- about how Brian/The Beach Boys fit into the '60s L.A., and the wider California, music scene since this seems like a neglected topic!

I have a mix of "Ding Dang" without the lead vocal, some of the higher harmonies, and with gobs of noise reduction that I accidentally found when first getting into the band. Where is this sourced from?

Just trying to settle a dispute with a mate. Who sings the low "Water.... water" part on Pacific Ocean Blues?
I always thought it was Dennis but my mate reckons it isn't.

Tell your mate its probably Dennis, he sang bass on a lot of Beach Boys stuff too...including Steamboat, Its OK, Shortenin Bread and part of Wouldn't It Be Nice....and on his solo stuff like the "gone away" on Moonshine.

What is going on in the fade in of Ding Dang? It sounds like somebody is either talking or singing, with additional talking in the background.

I got the Friends-20/20 two-fer on iTunes and for the life of me I can't hear Dennis nailin' that chick on All I Want to Do. I turn it up loudly, I play it softly, I rewind and I rewind, but nothing. Is it buried in the mix? Did it get taken out of the mix at some point? I need it. I need to hear it. For my... curiosity. Also, I swear to God there's an extra track on that song with just like ambient noise and a couple bells tinkling, and it is mixed higher than everything else or something, making the rest of the track comparitively muffled... I just don't get it.

Suggest you go see your audiologist immediately - Denny & the hooker are clearly audible in both channels at the very end, as the music fades. It's faint, but if you crank up the volume, you hear...

grunting...

moaning...

Dennis asking "did I hurt you ?"

I have no probs with printing the pages direct off the net, or cut & pasting the text (though the scroll bar doesn't automatically re-position when dragging the cursor).

Is it one specific page that's the problem?

Or no paper?  LOL Seriously though, even if it shows that you still have some black ink left, it sometimes prints as a blank page. It's happened to me a few times.

I listened to the version on YouTube on my nasty little smartphone speakers and heard it immediately. Go back to the itunes version, and voila! There it is, after the hundredth listen at full volume. Maybe I didn't know what to listen for, maybe they did make it quieter... Anyway, thank you guys. I feel much better.

I've heard an alternate (what I think is a) ukulele solo/line during the Hawaii(n) chant on DYLW, why wasn't this included? It sounds awesome! I think it's on session 4 on the SOT Smile, (or at least that what it says on my ipod). It's kinda silly sounding but I think it adds a humor aspect to the song/album. Is it buried in the mix? Is it on the boxset?

(Yeah,  Sad I still don't have it, though I've enjoYed everyThing on "sites" that's been uploaded  Wink)

I will be getting the set this Christmas though!
