I've been pushing on with Felt. The best album so far (I think) is The Strange Idols Pattern and Other Short Stories, which includes this extraordinary instrumental (although the whole album is stupendous):

Math rock has always intrigued me (bands like This Town Needs Guns), although the music is sometimes hard to listen to.

It seems a major precursor of the genre is the band Massacre. One of the YT comments on their album Killing Time (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b1kPa1PTajU) mentioned another album by an act rejoicing in the name of Laddio Bolocko. At first I thought it was someone trying to be funny but this band really exists. And they sound great!

A while back, YouTube and/or Google+ made some modification that deactivated all the embedded videos at my other board. Since then the three of us have been slowly repairing them, in my case with standard YT links like the ones used here, just in case it happens again.

The positive aspect of going through everything, for me anyway, is that I keep unearthing really good stuff I'd forgotten about completely. Such as this stunning track by Chris Robinson, "Girl On The Mountain":

At some point in my lurid past I wrote this album off. I'd always felt (and in fact I still do!) that side one of its predecessor, Da Capo, was the climax of Love's musical career. Well, I listened to Forever Changes yesterday and today for the first time in half a century and ye gods what a breathtakingly beautiful album it is. I suspect it will take less than another half-century before I listen to it again.

Other than 1967 Sunshine Tomorrow I've been loving a 2 disc set of Bossa Nova music featuring Joao Gilberto, Sergio Mendes, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Astrud Gilberto and others. The collection is simply titled "Bossa Nova" released in 2004 by Universal.

I listened to Forever Changes yesterday and today for the first time in half a century and ye gods what a breathtakingly beautiful album it is. I suspect it will take less than another half-century before I listen to it again.

Embarrassed to say that I was pretty much totally unfamiliar with Love, except for their version of My Little Red Book.
Decided that it was time to listen to Forever Changes. Although it didn't have quite the immediate "Wow" effect that Odessey and Oracle had for me, I found lots to like and even to love about it. I'll have to give it another listen. (This was the case also for me in first hearing Pet Sounds. Had to listen to it multiple times to truly fall in love with it).

Interesting to read that Arthur Lee was an alum of Dorsey High School (along with Mike Love, Billy Preston and Marilyn McCoo).

I've gone through just about all the "classic' 1967 albums, just have to listen to Are You Experienced. I'm familiar with a number of songs on that album already.
Of the ones I've listened to, the only one that I couldn't get into was Pink Floyd's The Piper at the Gates of Dawn. The first cut, Astronomy Domine, was great but then I started to feel uneasy listening to it. My dog got scared listening to the beginning of one song (think it was Pow R Toc H), so I donned earphones. One of the songs had a section where the music would be one side, then switch to the other. Had to take off the earphones; didn't want to end up like Syd Barrett!

I bumped into this yesterday. OK, it wasn't linked here but its uploader and performer, grillo, does frequent these parts.

All good stuff----a great vibe to this album----but this track stands out for me. Love the F# in the synth line!

There are a handful of tracks over the decades, just a handful, where the instrumental workout goes to places most other bands can only dream of. "ATLITU" is one. (Free's "Mr. Big" is another.)

Dammit, I closed this tab before posting. Anyway, I had a nice post all typed out explaining my dual '60s/80s kick. I listened to a Love song today that I enjoyed, "Alone Again Or." Album has been queued for future listening.

Also been listening to a lot of the Bats lately, including the tune "Made Up in Blue." The late, great eighties, everyone.
