Today is the fourth anniversary of Dave Brubeck's death, which occurred one day before his 92nd birthday.
He was a class act, a True Gentleman, who "walked the talk."
I've been listening to his music this afternoon.
Here's one of my favorites - his The Duke. This is a solo version, I believe recorded in his home back in the 50s.

Cool fun video with Karen Carpenter playing drums. It says 1971 but actually it's 1976. Karen wears infamous "Lead Sister" shirt; check the funny backstory about it in the link, No. 13 (Richard answered the fan questions). My favorite Karen shot is when they pan to her & she smiles getting tired to beat the drums. But 1st you see Richard by the piano singing about the band.

To me the best Christmas Special is the Carpenters' 1977-78 ABC specials. But look at them singing in fabulous Perry Como Christmas show:

To see 2 my favorites - Perry & Karen - at the same show is really cool. Enjoy!

Yes, laughable, esp. near the end it's terribly off-pitch & shaky. Phil musta realized it & let the others sing.

I'm a convert to this particular album, thanks to the undercover person you quote.
So you've been within close quarters of Angel Olsen...
Actually, I came here for quite another reason (and then got sidetracked, lol). Namely to thank bringahorseinhere? for inadvertently pointing me in the direction of Nelson Braggs's beautiful 2007 album

Yeah, I live pretty close to Asheville, NC, where she lives. Still, it surprised the Charles Dickens out of me.
This whole album (
Day into Night
) is really good. If it had been released in the 70s or something it'd probably be a classic or something. Wonder if Brian's heard it?

Will also give a thumbs up to Asheville! Wonderful area.
While driving home I heard this and it deeply affected me. Is this how it sounded in the coffeehouses back in the day? Wonderful folky song with the jazzy instrumentals.
Also, I identify with the lyrics of the chorus.

I've been listening to a lot of Bull of Heaven recently and have been pleasantly surprised by what I've heard so far.
It's also good music to work to, as it's predominantly wordless and has no radical changes in dynamics.
At just over 18 minutes, "String Theory Verified" is quite short by their standards:

It was announced today that Henry Butler, probably my city's greatest living pianist, is very sick, with Stage 4 cancer (didn't indicate what type of cancer). He's 66 years old.
So I'm thinking about him and listening to his songs.
He suffered greatly from the hurricane back in 2005; he lived just a few blocks from me and he had 8 feet of water in his home; his piano was destroyed. He's lived in other towns since and has called it living in exile.
He's going to Europe to try some experimental treatments for his illness. very sad.
Here's one of my favorites from him, Orleans Inspiration

Very sad, to be sure. Thoughts and prayers for Mr. Butler, who certainly plays a mean piano!

I've always loved the

I've never listened to this before, or much of Youth Lagoon in general. Dunno what inspired this.
