I was listening to Jan and Deans "Fun city" cd,there are some great stuff Jan did in the 70's that most people don't know about, but the one song that sticks out (actually two songs if you count the disco song..lol) is "Dont you just know it" with a great falsetto sung by Brian, maybe one of the last ones before messing up his voice, what are your thoughts on this song and your thoughts on other jan and dean stuff form the 70's as well..

I always thought it was a cool record. I wish I knew more when it was exactly recorded but it was either done in 1970 or 1973. Mother Earth and Tinsel Town are good records too.

Worthless song, I think. And uncomfortable vocal, totally lacking in confidence. At least it's easy to look at it this way, considering what happened to his voice a few months later.

It's from 1970 but was released in 1973.
One of Jan's best songs comes from this periode: "How, how I love her"

To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.

I've been told that a lot because it was in the Brad Elliott book, but I think the track, Brian, and Jan's lead were done on different occasions so it's hard to say. Brian sounds a lot like he does on Walkin'.

Flaming pile of the most offensive sh*t I've ever heard. I'd rather be shot through the dick by Jon Bon Jovi than have to listen to this sh*t ever again.

Song is OK, and I like the track overall but Brian's vocals grate on me, I'm sorry to say.

Odd song, but glad to see that Brian's falsetto was still in good shape.

And production aside, I’d so much rather hear a 14 year old David Marks shred some guitar on Chug-a-lug than hear a 51 year old Mike Love sing about bangin some chick in a swimming pool.-rab2591

I actually prefer the version on Get the Boot that just has Brian's vocals on it.

"Don't You Just Know It" is a song which should be listened to for loosening one's stool and is most often played to treat constipation. Certain vocals by Brian Wilson and Jan Berry are used to evacuate the colon for rectal and/or bowel examinations, and may be supplemented by the performance of studio musicians under certain drug induced bad ideas. Sufficiently repeated listenings to "Don't You Just Know It" may cause diarrhea. The production values of this song work to increase the movement of feces along the colon. Likewise the 10+ minute disco version of "Here Comes The Night" is often useful in inducing seizures and/or strokes while the vinyl lp Looking Back With Love can and should be used for playing Frisbee golf. And catching a Mike & Bruce show performing "Duke Of Earl" can cause cancer amongst hardcore Beach Boys fans.

Well, Jan & Brian's version certainly doesn't come close to the original, but it's nice in some stoned way imo.

But what about Bruce's Goin Public? I just bought it on Tape/cassette and vinyl, what do are those used for?

This is definitely a very transitional falsetto. Sounds like a cross between his singing on "Forever" and his response vocals on "Chapel of Love".
