I was just listening to this concert, and heard something I never noticed before....

right before they perform "Okie From Muskogee," someone, and I'm almost sure it's Bruce Johnston, says "I hate this next song."

This is further evidence to me that Bruce has always been an odd duck.  I mean, why would a performer say something like that into the mic in front of an audience?  Weird.

I pegged it as Al or Carl for some reason.

But I love that, it's so funny. Especially when it becomes so apparent that it was on-mic and Mike takes a beat and goes 'You're gonna love this next song.'

All roads lead to Kokomo. Exhaustive research in time travel has conclusively proven that there is no alternate universe WITHOUT Kokomo. It would've happened regardless.
What is this "life" thing you speak of ?

Maybe it's not Bruce, then. I dunno.  I would think Al would like that song, as it's kind of folkish/countryish....Carl maybe.

It is funny. I agree. Just odd.

Wait, Syracuse, NY?

Yes, there's a widely circulated recording of a concert from Syracuse in 1971.

Well I live in Syracuse! I never heard of this!

In my defense, the band has toured Italy, so who knows?

That must be Bruce, he did not want to do hippie songs but Tears In Morning and Disney Girls. Such a sappy chap Bruce.

Speaking of Bruce: when did the tiny white shorts era begin exactly?

Perhaps you should visit the concert timeline and find the Italian show in Syracuse( unless it happened after 2000):  http://www.esquarterly.com/bellagio/gigs.html
